Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 284: Chapter 272: A Perfect Solution

On her way here, Qian constantly calculated every step, considering the bottom line and points of fear in these people’s hearts.

The reason why Shi Touyu didn’t suggest letting them go back was that these people would certainly disagree.

When people become poor to a certain extent, their perspective on the world changes; they have reverence for ghosts and spirits, but for money, they’d even dare to kill them.

Their respect for ghosts and spirits isn’t from heartfelt belief but from fear and purpose. If the fear from ghosts and spirits outweighs their bottom line and obstructs their goals, they stop believing.

In their eyes, gods and ghosts are for transactions. The faith among the lowest classes is all utilitarian.

So Qian had Shi Touyu pretend to be possessed by a spirit, not suggest leaving, but stay and appease the others so they wouldn’t suspect this was a meticulously laid trap.

The man wouldn’t dare to harm Shi Yu and would treat her well, letting her randomly predict fortunes to help the family earn money, biding time for rescue or seeking a chance to escape.

But Shi Yu didn’t follow Qian’s script. She didn’t grasp human nature as well as Qian did. She thought since these people believed she was a great spirit, she couldn’t be satisfied with just her own safety and wanted to rescue Qian as well.

But Shi Touyu miscalculated.

The woman who bought Qian valued the 4000 yuan more than her life.

In this place, it might take many years to save up that amount, and without it, there’d be no hope of survival.

So Shi Yu’s request wasn’t fulfilled, and the sly old lady with a triangular gaze bit back at her.

Money, benefit, had surpassed the reverence for ghosts and gods.

If Shi Yu were to flinch now or say something wrong, her identity as a spirit would be questioned.

Qian was sweating coldly.

But Shi Yu exploded with two hundred percent potential at this moment, using her imaginative mind as a comic artist along with her determination to protect her friends, becoming an invincible warrior.

She began jumping up and down again, babbling nonsense and leaping around like a spirit, circling around the old lady, sometimes clapping, sometimes emitting sinister laughter.

”Within three days, you’ll have bad luck. There’s a disaster star sitting on your roof, biting your neck and gnawing your head. Hahaha, the Wealth-Loving Girl will show her true colors tonight, big red!”

The bald man who had just bought incense came back, unaware of what had happened, saw Shi Yu jumping around near Apo. The big bald man inserted the incense into the ground, Shi Yu immediately sat cross-legged, pretending to be worshiped, muttering a chant.

”When you head back, don’t take the same road as you came. There’s a black dog blocking the way on the road from where you came, and you’re bound to face a catastrophe.”

”Oh spirit, but there’s only one road up the mountain...” The bald man was troubled.

Shi Yu widened her eyes, ”Dare you doubt me?”

Already convinced, Da Mei immediately prompted from the side.

”Brother, you forgot there’s another road!”

”But that road is cut off in the middle, our vehicle can’t get through...” The bald man hesitated.

”Just take that road, there’s a golden pig on that road!” Shi Yu vigorously talked up, hurry up, take the narrow path, best if the car breaks down, crashes off the mountain and dies!

Qian almost laughed out loud.

Alright, the naive daughter of the landlord turned dark and her ability to cajole people improved, climbing up the pole, luring people into believing her; she really had the aura of rural spirit-jumping.

”Spirit, by the golden pig, you mean—?” The bald man asked respectfully, others listened intently.

Shi Yu pinched her fingers, muttering a few tongue twisters, then shook her head.

”Heavenly secrets can’t be revealed, you’ve done too much wickedness in this life, but your ancestors had virtue, leaving you a golden pig before you turn 50. If you don’t pick it up, it’ll have to wait until after you’re 50—Oh, your family has three kids, the youngest is a boy, there’s a catastrophe in January, don’t let him see the sun! If he’s gone, you’ll have no sons in the future!” Shi Yu pointed at Da Mei as she finished speaking, Da Mei was scared.

”Brother, hurry home!”

Da Mei had talked about her kids’ affairs during her chat with Qian on the road, and Shi Yu’s bluff made Da Mei think she was incredible, foreseeing things, scared her son back home would be gone, anxious to return.

”Huang, the golden pig...” The bald man was still concerned about his windfall.

Shi Yu couldn’t continue, suddenly convulsed, fell straight to the ground.

Everything went silent.

Shi Yu calculated, approximately ten seconds passed, she suddenly sat up, rubbing her eyes.

”What just happened?”

”Did the spirit leave? I didn’t see you send her off?”

According to local customs, spirits invited must also be sent off, Shi Yu hadn’t thought of this, nor did Qian mention it, she looked in Qian’s direction.

”She’s from an external spirit clan, different from the local ones.” Qian rescued the scene in time.

”Want to see what’s ahead, come to my home! Red and white events, pick dates, marital fights, when the elderly dies, our spirit can predict it all.” Da Mei laughed like a flower, he’d hit the jackpot, took a golden doll home for 4000 yuan.

The bald trafficker rubbed his sore knees, standing up.

Too bad, had he known the abducted girl could foresee events, they’d have kept her themselves, but the money’s already exchanged and they must uphold their honor.

”Brother, hurry back, I’m worried about the kid!” Da Mei feared the spirit’s words would prove true.

The bald man didn’t want to take the difficult road, but was curious if the golden pig was real, gritted his teeth.

”Let’s go!” If he couldn’t spot the golden pig, he’d return!

Around them, villagers marveled.

Look, indeed blessed by spirit!

The man who bought Shi Yu dared not neglect her, after all, ”father” possessed him and said to treat her well, couldn’t touch, must feed her well.

Shi Touyu walked away with the man, looking back at Qian every few steps, worried about what would happen to Qian.

Qian gestured to her to cheer up, Shi Yu turned her head back in tears.

She understood Qian’s intention.

If she couldn’t keep up the act, she and Qian would have no hope.

She really wished to replace Qian, but to escape from this hell, she had to endure the fear and guilt towards her friend, complete this dance with shackles over the fire.

Hoping Qian would get her period today.

Qian whispered about her impending period to Shi Yu when the trafficker wasn’t watching as they were coming near.

This was why she had Shi Yu pretend to be a spirit rather than doing it herself.

The more backward a place is, the more superstitious it becomes.

They believe a woman’s period is unclean, would certainly prevent men from sharing a bed during it, interacting would bring misfortune.

Qian wanted to use this, to protect herself, and also Shi Touyu.
