Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 267: Chapter 255: Following the Trail

”That was to help you realign! How could you be so careless? Do you know how dangerous it is? If it had been a little off, and hit the nerve, you’d be a one-armed hero now!”

Mrs. Yu mumbled to herself, ”I don’t know what’s come over you. Your partner was sent here in the morning with a broken right hand, and then you came in the afternoon with a broken left shoulder. You two really are partners, one left and one right.”

”I got this injury saving someone. What’s his excuse? An eye infection while on standby and he still managed to get hurt. I’m honestly impressed.”

”He was saving someone too. I heard it was a little girl.” Zhu Dadao was not the one admitting patients, so he only heard it from a colleague.

”I just went for a stroll, and he completely deserved this. Wearing glasses would’ve prevented this. His skills shouldn’t be this slow.”

Mrs. Yu was amused yet exasperated, ”Even in this state, you still have the energy to drop by and chat?”

When her son was first brought in, Mrs. Yu nearly shed tears.

He left home perfectly fine and came back in this condition.

Though they performed emergency treatment on him there, the wound still had some fluid retention, so Mrs. Yu decisively used their family secret remedy on his wound.

”I heard Zhu Dadao was around, so I thought I’d show some camaraderie.”

Mrs. Yu didn’t buy his nonsense; he had gone purposely to annoy Zhu Dexi.

Zhu Dexi probably knew his partner was full of mischief, so he held it in, plus he did save Qian.

The two of them worked well together and often bantered like this for fun in their lives.

”When are you planning to tell Qian?” Mrs. Yu asked.

Yu Minglang thought for a moment, ”I want to wait until the swelling goes down. It’s inconvenient now.”

But realizing he had time since his big brother was covering for him at the company while he was injured, Yu Minglang instantly brightened up.

”Finally, I have more time to spend with her. I really feel the heavens are being kind to me.”

He had been worried before because Qian was unhappy about not being able to spend New Year’s together, and now with the injury, he’d have plenty of time.

Mrs. Yu raised her hand, wanting to hit her silly son, but seeing the injury on his shoulder, she withdrew her hand and wiped the corner of her eye.

”How did I end up with such a silly son?”

”Mom, why are you crying? I’m fine; it’s just a small injury, as minor as a scratch. It doesn’t even hurt or itch. I tell you, if I didn’t want to spend more time with Mei, I wouldn’t even rest; I’d keep working with the injury, minor injuries don’t pull you off the front line!”

”Nonsense! This is a small injury? A bit off and you’d be dead!” Mrs. Yu was an authority in this field and knew how lucky Yu Minglang was this time, having narrowly escaped a grave injury.

Her eyes warmed thinking about it.

”Mr. Yu, go do your rounds, stop standing there wiping tears and affecting this patient’s mood. It’s nothing serious, no need to cry. I’ll go back and complain to Mr. Yu, saying you’re not focused on your work, emotionally weak, and crying.”

”You brat!” Mrs. Yu glared at him. Just then, Mr. Yu came to pick him up, taking all the medication and instructions from Mrs. Yu before leaving.

Meanwhile, Qian was overwhelmed by fear and unknown imaginings. Minglang’s phone call had left her with a foreboding sense of unease.

Chen Zilong, seeing his older sister’s worried face, thought it was because she missed Yu Minglang.

”Sis, don’t be like this. Lang will be back in a few days. If you really miss him, why not look at the things he left behind. Oh, right, I still have the study guide he gave me. Sis, let me show you!”

Trying to cheer Qian up, Chen Zilong strained his limited brain cells and finally came up with this idea.

He quickly rushed to his room, found the study guide Yu Minglang had given him, and handed it to Qian.

”Sis, look at it, see Lang’s handwriting, it’s like he’s right next to you.”

”Get away, I don’t want to look!” Qian was frustrated. She felt that Minglang might be hiding something from her, and her unease was spreading.

She pushed away Chen Zilong’s hand, causing the paper to drift to the floor.

Suddenly, Qian’s phone rang.

”Hello?”

”Chen Xiaoqian, do you know what you’ve done?”

A woman’s voice came from the other end of the phone.

”What?” Qian asked, suddenly fixing her gaze on the paper on the floor, its writing making her eyes widen.

How, how could it be this?

”Whose handwriting do you think this is?!” Qian asked Chen Zilong excitedly.

”It’s Lang’s, of course. He wrote it himself. Oh, right, Lang can write with both hands, left hand cursive, right hand regular script, and when he writes in cursive I don’t understand it, so he used this...”

The siblings’ conversation was transmitted clearly through the phone’s microphone.

The ignored woman’s voice on the phone discontentedly cut in.

”Yu Minglang’s left hand is soon going to be unable to write!”

”Who are you, what are you saying, what on earth is going on?”

...

Yu Minglang comfortably sat in his big brother’s car. If it weren’t for the brace he was wearing, judging by his demeanor, he didn’t seem like someone with a severe injury.

”How did you get hurt, being so careless?” his big brother asked while driving.

”I got caught off guard... It’s nothing major. Our mom just worries unnecessarily. Big brother, while I’m away these days, how is my little Mei doing?”

”Your precious girlfriend is amazing, she helped me land a million-dollar deal, she—”

Before Mr. Yu could finish, his phone rang.

Speak of the devil, it was a call from Qian.

Seeing Yu Minglang eagerly listening, Mr. Yu made a shushing gesture and put it on speaker.

”Big brother, where is Yu Minglang?”

Qian got straight to the point.

”Our little one... He’s in the mountains,” Big brother glanced at Yu Minglang in the passenger seat, who gave an okay gesture, yes, big brother was most adept at lying through his teeth.

”Oh, where are you then?” Qian’s voice remained inscrutable.

”I went to our parents to deliver goods, do you need something?”

”Nothing, I just wanted to ask for two tickets to the wildlife park. Don’t you have connections with the owner there?”

”That’s not worth bothering about, go have fun, big brother will cover all the expenses.”

After hanging up, he questioned Yu Minglang.

”Are you just going to keep it from her like this?”

”What else can I do? If she’s anything like our mom and starts crying at the sight of the wound, what then? I’m just afraid she’ll cry. I’ll wait until the swelling goes down to see her, I’ve got a month’s leave, haha!”

Yu Mingli shook his head, hurt yet as happy as if he’d won the lottery, only his brother could be like this.

The car drove steadily towards the family compound; as they neared the gate, a taxi sped over, and Qian got out, directly waving at Yu Mingli’s car.

The Yu brothers thought they were seeing things.

”Big brother, is it too late for me to hide in the trunk now?” Yu Minglang asked.
