Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 251: Chapter 240: No Date Set for Return

Qian originally planned that if he had time off during the New Year, she would invite him to have a good stroll. Despite being together for so long, the number of times they’ve had daytime dates can be counted on one hand.

He’s been too busy, sneaking out at night to accompany her for a while, squeezing out time from his hectic schedule, and thinking he might have half a day’s leave during the New Year.

Yu Minglang saw her disappointed expression and felt bad, but there was really nothing he could do.

He managed to come today by working extra hours, afraid that Qian would be upset if she found out, he deliberately kept it from her while having fun, and only told her when they had to part.

”It’s work...”

”What kind of work must be done during the New Year? Can’t people live? Didn’t they finish talking last time?” Qian rarely raised her voice a bit.

”In business, there’s no such thing as the New Year break. A project we’re responsible for has some issues, we have to go at this time.”

”Yu Minglang, are you coming over to tease a little animal? You’re happy, you come over to stir things up a bit, you’re leaving, you put on a righteous face, do you want me to give a passionate speech to express support for your work?”

Qian actually didn’t know what she wanted to express.

It’s not the first time this has happened. She knew what he did when she met him, a smile of understanding and telling him to be careful would suffice at this point.

But after spending such a pleasant few hours, suddenly this happened, the sweet aftertaste still lingered, and suddenly a slap struck, Qian couldn’t adapt, any woman would struggle to adapt.

Yu Minglang saw she was upset and wanted to explain, but things at work are very complicated and couldn’t be explained in a short time.

”Fine, you go, just leave now.”

Qian pushed him with her hands, Yu Minglang tried to hug her, but she pushed him away. Hugged again, pushed again, finally, Qian simply gave him a triple push out the door and slammed the big iron door shut with a bang.

With the door closed, she leaned against the iron door, waiting for him to explain.

But he didn’t explain.

Just like in a previous life, leaving doesn’t need a reason. Damn not having a reason.

Inside, Jia Xiufang was wiping Chen Zilong’s face with a towel, the drunken fool still hadn’t woken up.

”What’s going on, went out for a bit and came back drunk, how old is he, how could you not take care of him—hey, Qian’er, what’s wrong, did you fight with Minglang?”

”Nothing.” Qian went upstairs expressionlessly, locking herself in her room.

Standing by the window, she saw his Cherokee driving off into the dust.

Qian closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to use emotional management to quell the unexpected irritation.

It didn’t work.

She washed her hands several times, and only then did the fire in her heart go out a bit.

Back in the room, she took out a pen and paper, attempting to use her professionalism to sort out her thoughts.

Getting upset over something she already knew about wasn’t like her.

For some reason, she wrote a long string of things she didn’t even know what they were, crumpled the paper, and threw it into the wastebasket. She was unhappy, for no reason.

When she subconsciously planned a future for the two of them, he shattered it with a single sentence.

He knew the cruel outcome before he came, yet he insisted on watching her get so invested like a fool, only to cruelly tear it apart at the last moment.

”Yu Xiaoqiang is a bastard.” Qian complained, pulling out a nightgown from the cabinets and changing into it. She needed to find something to do, couldn’t keep focusing on those little issues between men and women.

Love is something that severely drags down intelligence. Qian felt that Yu Minglang’s influence on her was already too great, there were some things she needed to think over carefully.

The sound of the window being opened came with the cold wind, Yu Minglang returned with a handful of skewers.

Qian gave him a glance and said coldly.

”Leave the skewers and get out.”

Yu Minglang placed the food on the table. Qian was applying lotion to her legs, not looking at him, Yu Minglang seemed to want to take over her ”job,” but Qian kicked him away with a stretch of her leg.

Yu Minglang reflexively grabbed her ankle, Qian kicked, but he didn’t let go.

”When did you get a dog chain?”

Yu Minglang noticed the white crystal anklet on Qian’s ankle, curiously fiddling with it.

”A roommate gave it to me, don’t touch it!”

”This chain is ugly, I’ll buy you a nice one when I come back.”

Qian wanted to say, are you sure, will I really be here waiting for you every time? But seeing his pleading expression, she swallowed her words. His work was life-threatening, she didn’t want to distract him.

”You should go.” We’ll talk when you come back.

Yu Minglang poked her face with his hand, ”I’ll really leave this time.”

The traveler asks when they’ll return, the return date is uncertain.

He still didn’t explain, only using practical actions to express the greatest concern and reluctance within his capabilities. Explanation and promises were beyond his ability.

As he was about to jump out the window to leave, Qian stopped him.

”Yu Minglang.”

”Hmm?”

”Come back in one piece.”

”Hmm, you don’t run around during the holidays either, be safe, don’t run around everywhere, there’s some talk about things being unsafe lately.”

As the last word was spoken, he had already jumped out.

Qian returned to her room, sat down again, her heart wasn’t as angry anymore, but felt empty.

The winter temperature had cooled the skewers, placed on the radiator, letting the aroma of cumin and charcoal grill spread indoors.

Qian got up; she wanted to wash her hands again.

Early the next morning, Qian was dressed warmly, not only wrapped in a down jacket but also had a fluffy earmuff on her head.

”Qian’er, where are you going?” Jia Xiufang asked.

”I’m going to work.”

”What job? Are you short on money? What do you want to buy, mom will give you money.” Ever since Jia Xiufang got the first batch of relocation compensation, she was quite confident.

”I’m grown up, can’t keep taking money from parents?”

”No matter how old you are, you’re still a child. What are you doing running out in this cold weather—no, you have to make it clear, I can’t rest assured.” Jia Xiufang had also heard some rumors recently, with the New Year approaching, it’s not very safe, and Qian is still a girl.

”I’m taking Narcissus to find work, aiming to earn 20 bucks a day.”

”Are you joking? That’s a huge amount of money, don’t let yourself freeze—hey, not having breakfast?”

Qian had already walked out, Jia Xiufang leaned on the door shouting.

”I’ve eaten, won’t come back for lunch.”

Jia Xiufang still wanted to ask if Qian had money in her pocket, but at this moment, she heard a scream from Chen Zilong upstairs.

Jia Xiufang hurried upstairs.

Only to see her eldest son shirtless, looking like he just woke from a hangover, holding a skewer, clutching his throat in pain.

”Why are you shouting like a chicken being slaughtered.”

”My sister... poisoned... ugh!” He saw the skewers on his sister’s desk, so he went in for a little bite.

Qian probably anticipated his sneakiness and had sprinkled chili powder all over before she left. Chen Zilong hadn’t noticed and took a bite, his throat was on fire.

”Deserved! Serves you right! Always stealing your sister’s stuff, now go finish your homework!”
