Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 265: Chapter 253: Rationality and Sensibility

It’s a blessing in disguise that no one was hurt, especially thankful for Zhu Dadao being there; otherwise, Qian and Shuixian might have been in trouble.

”It’s fine, Dexi is also okay, let’s just minimize the issue. Zhu is on a business trip elsewhere, so I’m making the decision for him,” Mrs. Zhu said.

Teng Daye thought for a moment, catching a glimpse of Shuixian chatting with the bandaged Zhu Dadao, and had a sudden idea.

”Since I need to go back to my hometown to handle some affairs, I’m not comfortable leaving Shuixian alone at the hotel. How about letting her stay at your place for a few days? It would be convenient for her to take care of Dexi, and I would feel less guilty since Dexi got injured because of Shuixian.”

Chen Xiaoqian looked at Teng Daye in surprise. Those words didn’t sound like something he would say.

Only one arranged date and proactively suggesting staying at the man’s family home, when did Mr. Teng become so open-minded?

”Oh, that would be wonderful! We have many rooms at home. With Zhu away, it’s very quiet, so don’t worry, Mr. Teng. With Shuixian here, I will certainly take good care of her—mainly to give the young ones more opportunities to interact,”

Mrs. Zhu laughed so hard that the wrinkles on her face spread, and Teng Daye extended his hand, ”Then I leave it to you!”

Reaching a consensus, Shuixian thus got ”sold” by her own dad.

Teng Daye did not dare tell his daughter directly, knowing her straightforward nature, she would definitely say no. So, before leaving, he secretly called Chen Xiaoqian aside.

”Little Chen, could you do me a favor—”

”You say it yourself, I’m a doctor and won’t take the blame for you,” Chen Xiaoqian quickly guessed what he wanted to do.

”Aren’t you two friends?”

Chen Xiaoqian:...

So childish for someone his age, imitating her and Shuixian’s speaking style, it felt quite bizarre.

”Then I’ll leave reassured, I’m counting on you,” Teng Daye was about to leave when Chen Xiaoqian called him back.

”Old Tang, why do you have so much faith in Zhu Dexi? Shuixian is still young, is what you’re doing really appropriate?”

Complicated emotions flashed in Teng Daye’s eyes, quickly hidden.

”She’s not that young anymore. Instead of letting her find a boyfriend on her own outside, it’s better if I arrange it. After all, the Zhu Family and our family are well-matched. Zhu and I share a similar fate...”

The last few words carried a bit of sadness, though he quickly stifled it, Chen Xiaoqian heard it.

”I think you shouldn’t hide it from Shuixian. If you really want to do it, she’s not a child anymore. I’ve performed professional tests on her, and she has a strong ability to handle things. The only thing that makes her feel vulnerable is you. If you really...of course, I think cunning businessmen like you tend to have a long life, so you should be able to return safely.”

”You know?!” Teng Daye asked surprised.

Chen Xiaoqian gestured towards her stomach area, making a slicing motion.

”I guessed it.”

This time, Teng Daye was probably going for surgery.

By this time, he should have been diagnosed with early-stage stomach cancer.

Teng Daye sighed, ”Little Chen, you’re too clever, how did you know?”

He indeed was going for surgery, which he should have had done long ago, just too worried about his daughter’s illness, afraid if the surgery failed there’d be no one for her, he persevered. Now, Shuixian’s been treated well by Chen Xiaoqian, he figured he couldn’t delay any further.

”Shuixian mentioned your stomach problems, she was worried and urged you to see a doctor but you didn’t go. From my experience, fathers particularly doting towards their daughters generally aren’t in a hurry to have them married. Considering how young Shuixian is, your eagerness to find her a stable family led me to suspect so.”

Actually, Chen Xiaoqian came up with this spontaneously.

In her past life, because Shuixian continued to oppose Teng Daye, his surgery was delayed time and again, eventually progressing to an untreatable late stage.

This speaks volumes, indicating he feared his naive daughter being deceived, preferring to forgo the alliance to find her stability.

In her past life, Shuixian never met Chen Xiaoqian at this point. She fainted during a matchmaking session, barely surviving, underwent rescue and recovery, by then Zhu Dadao had also regained his sight, and by sheer coincidence, they never met.

This lifetime, due to Chen Xiaoqian’s return, a butterfly effect ensued, altering everything.

”The hospital I chose is reputedly authoritative in the country, there should be no problem, just removing a third, a small surgery,” Teng Daye downplayed the issue.

”If it’s a minor surgery, you wouldn’t be keeping it from Shuixian. Tell her, whether successful or not, don’t let her have regrets, trust Shuixian. She’s a very strong girl.”

Teng Daye glanced at his daughter, talking with Zhu Dexi, and sighed.

”Let me think about it.”

”Mm, I’m merely offering advice from a doctor’s perspective; it’s good to approach problems rationally, but living without any sentiment makes life dull,” Chen Xiaoqian said before planning to leave.

”Little Chen...” Teng Daye called her back.

”What’s the matter?”

”If I manage to come back alive, would you want to consider accepting me as your godfather?”

”Old Tang, are you trying to find Shuixian a lifelong support?”

Chen Xiaoqian spoke directly; Teng Daye made no attempt to hide it.

”Yes, and no. I do think you’re insightful, have a good connection with Shuixian, it benefits her. Personally, I truly admire your abilities.”

Such is the heart of a parent, even amidst uncertainties about one’s own fate, always wishing to pave the way for the daughter’s future.

At Chen Xiaoqian’s age, achieving such accomplishments is impressive. Teng Daye, who’s dealt with countless people, foresaw that she’s someone to rely on.

”So, accept me as your godfather, help Shuixian, be there for her in my absence, I can treat you as another daughter,” People of Teng Daye’s status have plenty vying for favor.

But out of admiration for Chen Xiaoqian, he wanted to leave this opportunity for her.

”Do you trust me so much, without fearing I might exploit Shuixian while you’re gone? I admit, Shuixian inherited certain talents from you, but now, she’s still a child.”

If Chen Xiaoqian wanted to take advantage of Shuixian, it would’ve been very easy. Teng Daye likely understood this.

”I trust my judgment of people, Chen Xiaoqian, there’s a determined light in your eyes not typical of someone your age. I’ve seen it in many successful people, but what I admire most is your dedication to your patients. I believe you’re a principled person.”

”Sometimes even I don’t believe in myself...” Chen Xiaoqian mocked herself with a smile, while Teng Daye awaited her response.

Chen Xiaoqian reached into her pocket, handing Teng Daye a bottle of her formulated essential oil.

”If you feel uncomfortable and can’t sleep, use this cypress essential oil, regarded as the most effective anti-cancer method in the world, known as Vitamins in the air, that’s the most valuable thing I have.”

”I’m still waiting for your answer.”

Chen Xiaoqian turned and slowly walked away, leaving him with just a view of her back.
