Chapter 914:- Velmoor City

”Where to next?” Laura asked while walking beside him.

She looked completely carefree. Before, he had never seen anything like this.

It was like there was no tension or worry occupying her mind.

What Aditya and even Laura herself didnʼt know was that the reason why she was so worry-free was because of him. With him, her mind believed that they could go through anything in this world and still be fine. She felt safe and secure.

”Continue in the direction that we previously set on before being rudely interrupted.” He replied with a small smile.

”I hope we wonʼt meet people like them.”

Aditya looked at her with his eyebrows raised and a soft smile. ”Madam, sometimes, the things that we donʼt want to happen end up happening.”

”Madam?” Laura was caught off guard, but it was a breath of fresh air that she welcomed.

She didnʼt hate it.

She kinda liked it.

While walking, Laura took out a neatly folded map of this region.

Every major landmark was meticulously marked on the map, including cities, towns, magical creature habitats, mountain ranges, valleys, and winding rivers, all of which were clearly detailed.

”What are you looking at?” Aditya curiously asked while walking beside her.

”I just want to know more about this region.” While looking, she noticed a city close to their location.

This city was closer to their location than Twilight City.

”Itʼs called Velmoor City.”

”If I remember correctly, this City is mostly inhabited by underwater races. Even the City Lord is a Mermaid.”

She read a few books about the Tunnel World before coming here. Laura knew that she would be useless in a fight, but at least, she could still use her brain to help him and improve their situation.

”You wanna go there?” Aditya asked.

Laura shook her head. ”The reason I know this city in the first place is because of a friend of my Grandpa. 6 to 7 decades ago, he came to Deep Sea Palace Empire and invited me to stay in Velmoor City for a few months.”

”At that time, Grandpa agreed as he felt that going there would give me a different experience and would further enrich my knowledge.”

”Then what happened?”

”Well, just one day before our journey, Grandpa found out that his friend was planning to marry me off to his grandson forcefully. Once Grandpa found out, he attacked his friend.”

”His friend had no choice but to flee. And since then, I never heard from him.” Laura folded the map and then put it in her storage ring.

”Well, if you had come here, then perphaps we never may have met,” Aditya said while looking at her.

”Everything in life happens for a good reason.”

”Life works in a really mysterious way. Maybe we would have met, but our meeting would have been different. Maybe, this time, I would be the one helping you.” Hearing this, Aditya chuckled.

Scene Change____

Meanwhile, at Velmoor City,

Knock! Knock!

”Sir, we have brought him here.” The old man with a neatly trimmed grey beard reaching his Adamʼs Apple, opened his tired and exhausted eyes. He was 6 feet and a half inches tall. He had a strong, muscular body and a slightly chubby face. He had short, grey hair that was barely an inch long.

This manʼs name was Alex Jones. And he was the City Lord of Velmoor City.

The first thing he looked at after opening his eyes was a painting. It was a painting of his late family.

In the painting, there was a much younger version of Alex along with his wife and two children. This version of Alex in this painting did not have a long grey beard. It was hard to think that in 5 decades, he had aged so much.

The Alex in the painting appeared to be in his 40s. However, the current Alex resembled an elderly grandfather in his late 60s. This was a significant change to a Peak 6th-order cultivator feature, especially since cultivators are known to be immortal and are said to retain their appearance even after tens of thousands of years.

Alex in the painting had this kind and gentle smile on his face, which his present self lacked.

The present Alex was more stoic and stern. After the death of his wife and his two children, his personality completely changed. He went from a man who used to laugh and smile all of the time to a cold-blooded man who enjoyed torturing people and killing the weak.

ʼMy wife...!ʼ

ʼMy children…..!ʼ Just looking at their faces, Alexʼs expression grew heavy. It wasnʼt his usual stern expression.

It was a look of longing. Longing to see his family again.

”Sir?” After not getting any response for a minute, the woman from the other side of the door called Alex again.

”Bring him in!” It was a cold voice that had no emotion. At the same time, his expression hardened, and his face returned to being stern.

Click!

Opening the door, the Head Maid pushed a young man who looked like he was in his 20s. The young man was skinny and tall, standing at a height of 5 feet 11 inches. And the boots he wore added four extra inches to his height, making him look way taller than he was.

His face bore fresh bruises, and his right eye was black, as if someoneʼs punch had caused it.

His clothes looked dirty and torn in several places.

When pushed by the head maid, he awkwardly entered the office. His steps were unsteady and heavy, as if he were injured and struggling to walk.

For a minute, no one in the office spoke. Alex coldly stared at the young man before him.

Under his cold stare, the young man named Mathew increasingly felt nervous.

Fear began to creep into his heart.

Although the man before him had aged a lot since the last time they saw each other at his family funeral, it was not hard to recognise the city Lord.

Looking at his face, Mathew began to remember the old memories of the past.

He remembered the time he spent with his best friend, who was the son of this man.

He began to recall the wrong things he had done to his best friend.

He remembered how he had taken advantage of his best friendʼs kindness.

”Mathew!” Breaking the ice, Alex took a step towards Mathew.

Seeing this, Mathew nervously took a step back, but soon he found his back pushed by the head maid.

The push made him stumble a few steps forward.

Alex stood in front of Mathew.

Looking at those blue, cold eyes, Mathewʼs heart began to race.

His whole body was already covered in sweat.

”My son liked you a lot.” Alex stared at the painting of his son for a second and then looked at Mathew.

”Even when you exploited his kindness and swindled him out of millions of Gold Coins, he still begged me to forgive you and give you another chance. When my son pleaded, I couldnʼt take any actions even though, I desperately wanted to teach that son of a Bitch a lesson for scamming my own son.” Alex himself also admitted that he spoiled his son and daughter rotten and wasnʼt strict with them. This led them to have messy adult lives.

And most people around them were only with them to take advantage of his children. Or at least, thatʼs how Alex saw things from his own perspective.

”As a friend, you should have supported your brother during his hard time. Instead of doing that, behind his back, you began to approach my sonʼs former girlfriend with an excuse of getting them back together.”

”But instead of helping my son, you made her your girlfriend. Do you have any idea just how much this hurt my son?” It was also this incident that made Alex travel to the Main Continent to meet an old friend of his.

In Deep Sea Palace, he saw a young girl. She was really beautiful, talented, and had a sharp mind. Seeing her, Alex knew in his mind that this girl would be the perfect candidate for his wife.

But things didnʼt go exactly as planned. Not only did he ruin his friendship, but his absence also led to the eventual downfall of his own family. His son, daughter, and even his wife died while he was away.

Hearing this, Mathewʼs face turned pale.

For decades, he has been regretting his actions. But that was no medicine for regret.

Months after what he did, his best friend passed away. Before dying, he killed his former girlfriend and was on a hunt to kill him. To save his life, he had no choice but to flee to another city. And from there, he kept fleeing. Eventually, he found a new identity and settled in a city on the Main Continent.

Things were going great for him, but he missed his family. His mistake was sending a letter to his family and assuming that nothing had happened to them.

Not only was his family dead, but also the letter fell into the hands of the City Lord, and thus, he was kidnapped from the Main Continent to here.

Alex waited decades to get his revenge on the people who harmed his people. And Mathew was one of them.

But before he could say anything, a figure knocked on the window.

It was a mysterious man in a black cloak. A mask covered his face.

Knock!! Knock!!!

Alex did not appreciate this rude interruption.

”What is it?” He asked in a rude and cold tone.

Seeing this, the man in the mask shivered for a second before hurriedly responding. ”Sir, we have spotted Crimson Flame in the distance.” Hearing this, Alex froze before completely shifting his attention towards the masked man.
