Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Hit First, Deal Later

”There’s no way she can borrow it!” Ma Zhenzhen replied to the text with utmost certainty. ”Xia Zhiwei is from a poor village on Zhushan Island. I saw her parents when she first arrived for her freshman year. They were dressed in cheap, street-market clothes—poor, unsophisticated, and naive. They looked like easy targets.”

After reading the text, the BMW-driving young man was reassured. Still, he texted back, ”I already told Mr. Luo and the others I’d be bringing a top-notch girl tonight. Don’t you dare mess this up for me.”

Ma Zhenzhen replied, ”Don’t worry.”

”Zhiwei, can your friend really help you borrow the money?” asked Tang Guoguo, Xia Zhiwei’s best friend.

”He should be able to!” Xia Zhiwei replied, though she wasn’t sure.

From her perspective, Ye Xiu was only a few years older than her. Although he was a Divine Doctor, he had just cleared his name and hadn’t found a job yet, so he probably didn’t have much money. However, since Ye Xiu could attend high-end business receptions hosted by Bao Longtu, he must know many wealthy people and should be able to help her borrow the money.

Half an hour passed quickly. The crowd of student onlookers had mostly dispersed, leaving only Xia Zhiwei’s classmates.

”Xia Zhiwei, is your friend coming or not?” the BMW-driving young man demanded impatiently. ”I have a lot of business to attend to. I make tens of thousands every minute, so I don’t have time to waste here.”

”He’ll be here! He should be arriving soon,” Xia Zhiwei said softly.

”I think you’re just stalling, aren’t you?” Ma Zhenzhen scoffed. ”A country bumpkin like you? How could you possibly know any wealthy people? I bet you’re just stalling, hoping we’ll get tired and leave. That way you won’t have to pay.”

Her words had barely left her mouth when a black Bentley sped toward them.

”He’s here!” Xia Zhiwei exclaimed excitedly.

”Tch, keep dreaming,” Ma Zhenzhen sneered. ”How could a bumpkin like you possibly know someone rich enough to drive a Bentley?”

Just then, the Bentley stopped. Ye Xiu stepped out and asked with a laugh, ”You made such a big fuss and called me all the way over here for this trivial little thing?”

On his way here, he had instructed You Ming to infiltrate the school’s surveillance systems. He already had the full picture, but the footage had no audio, so he didn’t know what Xia Zhiwei and the others had said.

”It might be a small issue for you, but it’s a big one for me,” Xia Zhiwei said.

”Alright!” Ye Xiu walked over to the BMW and asked, feigning ignorance, ”What happened?”

The young man felt a pang of insecurity facing Ye Xiu. This guy had arrived in a Bentley, while his own BMW was bought on loan. In front of Ye Xiu, he couldn’t help but feel inferior. He cursed Ma Zhenzhen for being an idiot. Who said Xia Zhiwei didn’t have wealthy friends? If driving a Bentley doesn’t count as rich, what does?

”Are... are you really Xia Zhiwei’s friend?” Ma Zhenzhen asked, her expression ugly.

”Yes. Is there a problem?” Ye Xiu asked coldly.

Ma Zhenzhen’s mouth twitched. She remembered how she had just mocked Xia Zhiwei for being a country bumpkin who couldn’t possibly know anyone rich. She had even confidently assured the BMW youth that Xia Zhiwei would never be able to borrow the money. Ye Xiu’s arrival was a stinging slap in the face.

”You’re just in time. Xia Zhiwei’s electric bike damaged my new car. You can pay the compensation for her,” the BMW youth declared arrogantly. Bolstered by the thought of his own connections, he was no longer afraid of Ye Xiu.

”What kind of compensation do you want? Money, or something else?” Ye Xiu asked.

”Either pay me 100,000, or buy me a new car—”

SMACK! Before the young man could finish, Ye Xiu’s slap sent him sprawling to the ground.

”Let’s try that again. What’s the compensation?” Ye Xiu demanded coldly.

Everyone gasped. Xia Zhiwei, Ma Zhenzhen, and all the classmates were shocked. They had all assumed Ye Xiu was asking about compensation because he was going to help Xia Zhiwei pay. Instead, he had just brazenly slapped the guy. This was not how someone who planned to pay compensation would act!

”You dare hit me? Do you have any damn idea who I am?” the BMW youth roared, scrambling to his feet.

SMACK! Another slap from Ye Xiu sent him to the ground again.

”I’m giving you one last chance to rephrase your words,” Ye Xiu said, his voice like ice.

Everyone present was stunned by Ye Xiu’s heavy-handed methods. This is completely unreasonable!

”Call the police!” Ma Zhenzhen shouted. ”Since you don’t want to compensate for Xia Zhiwei, let’s report it! Let the Patrol Officers handle this!”

”Right, call the police!” The BMW youth instantly understood Ma Zhenzhen’s intent. He climbed up and said, ”It just so happens I have a friend at the Patrol Bureau Office. We’ll let him handle this.”

This was a clear threat, meant to intimidate Ye Xiu and force him to back down and pay for Xia Zhiwei.

”Then call them,” Ye Xiu said with a shrug.

Huh?

The BMW youth and Ma Zhenzhen were dumbfounded. They had only suggested calling the police to scare him, but he had actually agreed.

Xia Zhiwei and her classmates were just as surprised. First, her electric bike had damaged the BMW. Then, Ye Xiu had assaulted the owner. If the Patrol Officers came, Ye Xiu and Xia Zhiwei would surely be the ones in trouble.

”Are you sure?” the BMW youth scoffed. ”I have friends at the Patrol Bureau Office. If we report this, Xia Zhiwei is the one who will lose out. I suggest you think carefully before you decide.”

Xia Zhiwei pulled Ye Xiu aside and whispered, ”Are you crazy, Ye Xiu? If the Patrol Officers come, what if he accuses you of intentional assault? Besides, I’m the one who’ll be at a disadvantage in this kind of situation. He has connections there, and if this isn’t handled well, the school will punish me.”

”You weren’t this timid when you were helping Xia Xue and Shen Tianfang try to kill me,” Ye Xiu said with a wry smile.

”That’s different. You can’t use force to handle things like this,” Xia Zhiwei insisted.

Ye Xiu’s eyes lit up. He inwardly praised the rules of the Heavenly Dragon Sect. They were truly excellent. If every martial artist in the Ancient Martial Circle had Xia Zhiwei’s principles, the world would be a much more peaceful place.

”Since you want to report it, then let’s report it!” Seeing Xia Zhiwei trying to stop Ye Xiu gave the BMW youth a surge of confidence, and he repeated his threat.

”Fine by me. Let’s call them,” Ye Xiu nodded. ”Are you calling, or should I?”

Ah?

The BMW youth was baffled again. Didn’t Xia Zhiwei just try to stop him? Why is he still insisting? Now he was in a real bind.

”Since you’re not making the call, I will. I have connections at the Patrol Bureau Office, too. Let’s see whose are stronger,” Ye Xiu said with a cold smirk. He took out his phone and dialed 110. ”You recognize my voice, right? At Teaching Building 17 of Qingfeng Road University, someone is attempting to frame and extort money. Send people over immediately.”

Xia Zhiwei, the BMW youth, Ma Zhenzhen, and all the other students were stunned.

”You can call your Patrol Officer friend now,” Ye Xiu said, hanging up the phone. ”Tell him to come along.”
