Chapter 318: Chapter 318: Xia Zhiwei is Blackmailed, Seeks Help from Ye Xiu

For a moment, the young man and all the students present followed the tall beauty’s direction, their gazes landing on one person.

Suddenly the center of attention, Xia Zhiwei panicked.

”Xia Zhiwei, what are you doing hiding in the crowd?”

The tall beauty walked over, grabbed Xia Zhiwei’s arm, and dragged her to the BMW. Pointing at the dent and scratches on the car door, she said, ”Look! Open your damn eyes and look! Your crappy electric scooter smashed this BMW, and you thought you could just hide in the crowd and not pay for it?”

As she berated Xia Zhiwei, she discreetly gave the young man a meaningful glance.

The young man’s hormones were already surging, captivated by Xia Zhiwei’s stunning looks and figure. He thought, Ma Zhenzhen was right. Xia Zhiwei is a total knockout.

Catching the meaningful glance from Ma Zhenzhen, the young man immediately feigned anger.

He asked furiously, ”So you’re Xia Zhiwei? My brand-new car, smashed up by your electric scooter just like this. So, how are you going to compensate me?”

In reality, this was a setup—a trap Ma Zhenzhen and the young man had concocted together to target Xia Zhiwei. Ma Zhenzhen was the one who had deliberately pushed over Xia Zhiwei’s electric scooter.

”You... you tell me how I should compensate you?” Xia Zhiwei asked timidly, praying the young man wouldn’t demand an outrageous sum.

”100,000!” the young man said, holding up one hand. ”Compensate me with 100,000 yuan, and we’ll call it even.”

When Xia Zhiwei heard the number, her face went white with shock. She had never even seen 100,000 yuan in her entire life.

The onlooking students began to murmur in displeasure at the young man’s exorbitant demand, and Xia Zhiwei’s classmates were particularly incensed.

One male student said angrily, ”Are you trying to bully Xia Zhiwei because she doesn’t know about cars? This is a BMW 1 Series. Even a top-of-the-line model is only worth about 250,000 to 260,000 yuan. Her scooter just put a dent in the door and made a few scratches. The repairs won’t cost much at all. You’re clearly extorting her!”

”Wu Liang, wait a second!” Xia Zhiwei said as realization dawned on her. ”Are you saying my scooter scratched his car, but I don’t have to pay that much?”

”Of course not!” the young man named Wu Liang replied. ”For a few scratches like that, the repair costs won’t even be two thousand.”

Xia Zhiwei understood. The BMW owner was taking advantage of her ignorance about cars to deliberately overcharge her.

”You all don’t know jack!” Ma Zhenzhen snapped. ”This is a new car! If it’s repaired, can you still call it new? Her scooter put a dent and several scratches on it. Even after repairs, will it still be original?”

”It still doesn’t cost 100,000!” Xia Zhiwei’s best friend, Tang Guoguo, retorted. ”This car must be insured, right? Call the insurance company. Let them send someone to assess the damage. Zhiwei will pay whatever they say.”

”You shut up!” Ma Zhenzhen glared at her, then turned back to Xia Zhiwei. ”His car was brand new, barely driven, and your scooter damaged it. Even if it’s fixed, it won’t be a new car anymore. So, you have two options. Either you pay 100,000 in compensation, or you buy this gentleman a brand-new car and take this damaged one. You choose.”

Xia Zhiwei and all the students present were stunned by Ma Zhenzhen’s words. They couldn’t believe she could state such shameless, twisted logic with such a straight face. It was unbelievable!

”This beautiful lady has a point,” the BMW owner said, internally praising Ma Zhenzhen’s cleverness. ”I absolutely will not accept some cheap repair job. You either pay me 100,000, or you buy me a new car to replace this damaged one. Pick one!”

Xia Zhiwei was at a complete loss. Although she came from an Ancient Martial Sect and was a Sixth Grade Martial Artist, she was, at the end of the day, a naive country girl with little worldly experience. For her, a cup of milk tea or some duck neck was a luxury. She had never faced such a tricky conflict before.

”Xia Zhiwei, don’t listen to him,” Wu Liang said, stepping closer to her. ”I see what’s going on. He’s blatantly trying to extort you. I’ve never seen someone so shameless, coming to a school to scam students.”

The other classmates also started to clamor. ”Trying to extort someone from our class? Do you think we’re afraid of you just because you’re some guy from off-campus?” one shouted. ”Ma Zhenzhen, what’s wrong with you?” another added. ”How can you help an outsider bully your own classmate?” A third voice cut in, ”If you ask me, he’s just running a scam! He and Ma Zhenzhen probably pushed over Zhiwei’s scooter on purpose to frame her for money!”

Faced with the angry crowd, Ma Zhenzhen and the BMW owner remained completely unfazed.

”Everybody shut up!” the BMW owner roared. He turned to Xia Zhiwei and demanded, ”So, are you paying me or buying me a new car? If you don’t choose, I’ll have to call the authorities. As it happens, I have friends at the Patrol Bureau Office. They can come over and prove whether or not I’m extorting you.”

At these words, the clamoring came to an abrupt halt, and the expressions on everyone’s faces turned ugly. As students with little real-world experience, they were naturally intimidated by people with connections and by Patrol Officers. If the authorities got involved and the situation blew up, the school might punish Xia Zhiwei. Besides, the man said he had friends at the Patrol Bureau Office, which meant the Patrol Officers wouldn’t be on Xia Zhiwei’s side.

”Xia Zhiwei, have you made up your mind?” Seeing his threat had silenced the crowd, the BMW owner’s confidence swelled. He said to her, ”You students are supposed to be good at tests, right? So I’ll give you three options: A) Compensate me with 100,000; B) Buy me a new car; or C) We call the authorities.”

Xia Zhiwei was frantic. She couldn’t possibly come up with 100,000 yuan, let alone buy a BMW. Asking the Heavenly Dragon Sect for help was even more out of the question. The Heavenly Dragon Sect was an Ancient Martial Sect of farmers. For generations, they had little ability to earn money, relying on their physical strength to take on manual labor like hauling bricks at construction sites to supplement their income. At the end of the year, they had almost nothing left over. One hundred thousand! The families in the Heavenly Dragon Sect could probably scrape that much together if they sold everything they owned, but how could she ever repay them? If she couldn’t, how would they survive? As for option C, that was even less of a choice. The Heavenly Dragon Sect couldn’t afford that kind of public humiliation.

”Um, could you wait a minute? I need to make a phone call,” Xia Zhiwei said.

”Sure, take your time!” The BMW owner shrugged. He wasn’t worried she could actually borrow the money. Ma Zhenzhen had told him that Xia Zhiwei’s family was dirt poor and could never produce 100,000.

Xia Zhiwei stepped aside and dialed Ye Xiu’s number. ”Hello? You have to come save me! I’m in big trouble.”

”Where are you?” Ye Xiu asked.

”I’ll send you my location.”

”Okay!”

After hanging up, Xia Zhiwei walked back to the BMW and said to the owner, ”My friend is on his way. He should be able to help me borrow the money.”

”Alright, I’ll wait!” the BMW owner replied. From her tone, he could tell that even Xia Zhiwei wasn’t confident her friend could secure the funds. Still, he took out his phone and texted Ma Zhenzhen, ”Can Xia Zhiwei really borrow the money?” He couldn’t ask her directly in front of everyone, or they would all know he and Ma Zhenzhen were conspiring against Xia Zhiwei.
