Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 434: Half Truth, Half Lies

With a rough tearing sound, the curtain at the entrance of the Healing Stationʼs tent was violently yanked down. A man walked in, his body smeared with blood-red dye, nearly naked, with tight muscles, and adorned with a massive beast skull as a headpiece.

In his hand, he held a polished white leg bone used as a walking staff.

Lin Yu and Fern, who were already standing near the entrance, couldnʼt help but straighten their postures a bit more.

Even though she had mentally prepared herself, when truly facing this ”arbitrator” and feeling the terrifying aura and power emanating from him, Fern couldnʼt help but feel somewhat nervous.

”Calm down, calm down. With my plan, there should be absolutely no problem fooling these denizens of the Black Marsh world.”

”Not to mention... I have Moroʼs cooperation too.”

Continuously comforting herself in her heart, Fern turned her gaze back to the figure who had just entered.

While the other party was still cautiously surveying the utterly chaotic scene inside the tent, Fern was the first to speak.

”Respected arbitrator, sir...”

But the moment she started speaking, the other party interrupted her: ”How do you know Iʼm the arbitrator?”
*What nonsense, with that getup of yours, arriving at the Healing Station completely uninjured, could you possibly be a contestant?*

Fern grumbled inwardly, but the smile on her face remained peaceful.

She spoke again with a beaming smile.

”Naturally, because I can see that your aura is extraordinary, far from being just a simple contestant.”

The other party snorted coldly.

”Hmph, thatʼs not a bad assessment! Consider your eyesight sharp!”

Hearing the newcomerʼs words, Fern secretly rejoiced in her heart.

*It worked!*

Although the guyʼs tone still sounded unfriendly, he was clearly pleased with Fernʼs praise.

The saying ʼdonʼt hit a smiling faceʼ also applied in the Black Marsh world.

”It really takes someone like me to just casually praise this arbitrator a couple of times and have him eating out of my hand!”

Fern had some understanding of the Black Marsh world and the Blood Kingdom.

The arbitrators of the Glory Festival were usually prestigious figures of high status from the Ten Great Tribes.

In other words, they were typically strong in power, held high positions, and were genuine ”big shots.”

If not for the current special circumstances and Fernʼs determination to deceive him...

”This could have been a good opportunity to build a good relationship with him.”

Fern couldnʼt help but sigh inwardly.

Itʼs just a pity that a relationship starting with deception was destined to have no future.

However, Fern wasnʼt particularly disheartened.

”Anyway, if this guy is so easy to handle, Iʼll probably be able to casually get close to other big shots in the Black Marsh world in the future!”

Fern thought to herself.

At that moment, the arbitrator spoke in a low voice.

”So... what happened here?”

”I sensed the life energy of ʼShuoʼ dissipate,” he looked toward the extinguished furnace, ”What caused it?”

”And those people, why are they all tied up?”

Fern nodded slightly.

So the furnace fireʼs name was ”Shuo.”

She began to answer: ”I donʼt know the reason for the furnace fireʼs dissipation. I can only tell you what happened...”

”Just now, the entire Healing Station was suddenly plunged into an abnormal darkness, as if caused by some kind of sorcery, and then a loud bang was heard.”

”Afterwards, when the darkness receded, the furnace fire was already extinguished—one second it was conversing with a human contestant, the next it was gone.”

Fern spoke calmly.

”As for why those people are tied up, I can explain that, because Moro and I did it.”

”After the furnace fire went out, that dead guy over there seemed to have his soul and mind affected by some kind of martial art technique... He used a method similar to a ʼmental plague,ʼ infecting everyone except me and Moro.”

”Subsequently, they all fell into a state of madness and began attacking each other.”

”Although, as contestants, they are all my competitors, I really didnʼt want to see the Glory Festival turn into such a mess.”

”So... Moro and I joined forces to subdue them and temporarily restrained them.”

Hearing this, the arbitrator tapped the ground with the white bone staff in his hand.

”Youʼre saying... the two of you dealt with all the contestants here.”

Lin Yu nodded at this moment and spoke proudly: ”Thatʼs right. Most of those who came here were severely injured. Plus, after falling into madness and fighting each other, their stamina was already exhausted... Dealing with them wasnʼt difficult.”

”Even so, itʼs still quite astonishing! The potential of you two is very good... no, it can almost be called limitless potential!”

The arbitratorʼs tone changed.

Fern breathed a sigh of relief.

Sure enough, the Black Marsh world gave preferential treatment to ”warriors.”

Because their fists were hard and strong enough, even their words became easier to believe!

”Can you restore them?”

Lin Yu pointed at the guys lying in the arena and said.

A smile appeared on the arbitratorʼs face.

”Heh, thatʼs not difficult at all. Itʼs just ʼconfusionʼ and ʼmadnessʼ...”

”In our tribe, even without sorcery or bewitchment, there are often people who get carried away with killing.”

”Situations requiring us to forcibly calm them down are certainly not few.”

Hearing this, Fern nodded in understanding.

Indeed, perhaps in other worlds and among other Players, dealing with this kind of madness state isnʼt very easy.

But in the Black Marsh world... perhaps it really isnʼt a difficult problem.

From Fernʼs understanding, in the Black Marsh world, especially among the Barbarians and Blood Rakshasas of the Blood Kingdom, there are many techniques and methods that involve making oneself enter a ”berserk” state, trading reason for combat power.

Just like how in regions fond of drinking, there are many doctors skilled at treating alcohol poisoning and acute gastrointestinal bleeding, or how in countries without gun restrictions, the technique for surgically removing bullets is exceptionally mature. Similarly, in the Black Marsh world, the technique for correcting those who have fallen into madness is naturally very widespread.

The arbitrator tapped the ground again with the beast bone staff in his hand. Fern only felt an intangible coolness spread out.

Then...

Those guys who were tied up but still full of anger and bloodlust moments ago instantly became much clearer-headed.

”What happened?”

”Why am I in so much pain all over?!”

”Dammit, my wound split open again!”

”Who tied us up?”

The arbitrator then spoke calmly.

”Everyone, the Healing Station has been damaged and attacked. Someone used sorcery to secretly cause trouble, manipulated your souls, and made you fall into a state of madness, attacking each other.”

”At the same time, the arbitrator responsible for presiding over the Healing Station was attacked and has passed away... so in the coming time, the Healing Station may not reopen.”

”Contestants who are injured and feel they cannot recover can choose to withdraw from the competition directly.”

”As for who created this obviously rule-breaking chaos, I will investigate thoroughly—please, contestants, do not spread this matter around.”

The arbitrator said calmly.

Then, Fern spoke up again.

”Um... regarding the ʼextinguishing of the furnace fire,ʼ although I donʼt know exactly who did it, I have a clue.”

”Before the darkness descended, we all heard the furnace fire conversing with a human. The content of their conversation...”

”Was related to the Rakshasas!”
