Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 402: A Good Start, and the Rakshasa’s Identity

[False Face] could change Lin Yuʼs physique and appearance, but according to Lin Yuʼs tests, the adjustments of [False Face] were limited to the range of most ordinary adult human body types.

It couldnʼt turn Lin Yu into a three-meter-tall, one-ton humanoid tank, nor could it turn him into a fifty-centimeter-tall paper-thin person, and it was even more impossible for it to turn Lin Yu into a four-armed, red-skinned, strength-type monster.

But even so, Lin Yu still chose to disguise himself as a ”Rakshasa.”

And...

”Anyway, itʼs a good start now,” Lin Yu strolled through the woods, feeling the influx of [Belief]. ”I hope after he goes back, heʼll treat todayʼs encounter with a ʼRakshasaʼ as some kind of story to tell all his friends and family...”

The meager [Belief] from that single Blood Rakshasa tribesman was clearly insufficient to make Lin Yuʼs earlier lie [Come True], granting him the real ability to transform into a four-armed, red-skinned Rakshasa.

According to Lin Yuʼs estimate, it would take the belief of about thirty people to make his words [Come True].

Fortunately, Lin Yu still had ten days.

”If that guy goes back and spreads the word widely, that would be great,” Lin Yu thought optimistically. ”Maybe in a few days, I can get a free transformation opportunity and conveniently complete the first part of the [Promotion Mission] so easily and comfortably.”

Of course, that was just the most ideal scenario.
Lin Yu couldnʼt expect to just fool one big, dumb guy at the entrance and have the lie start spreading automatically...

What if he had no friends, or was introverted by nature, or happened to keep tight-lipped about this matter?

Lin Yu had never been the type to place his hopes entirely on others without putting in any effort himself.

On the contrary, he preferred to handle things personally whenever possible!

It was best if everything could be under his control.

”Anyway, at least this story is sufficient for the people of this world. Next time I encounter others who show any intention to communicate, I can give it a try.”

As Lin Yu spoke, he also stopped before a patch of black ”thorns.”

The black, hard thorns, which from a distance looked as hard as iron, were intertwined and tangled together, forming a wall-like barrier.

Just by looking at it, one could understand that this was probably the ”barrier” the burly man had mentioned.

Lin Yu stood before the thorns, paused, and then patted Hannah on his shoulder.

”Help me with some camouflage, Hannah. I need to change clothes.”

”Ribbit! Yes, sir!”

Hannah manifested her true form on his shoulder, and along with her, Old Zheng also appeared.

Immediately after, optical invisibility enveloped Lin Yu.

Even though there seemed to be no one around before the forest barrier, Lin Yu still had Hannah provide camouflage—not for reasons like shyness, but because Lin Yu was afraid of being ambushed.

People are very vulnerable when changing clothes, bathing, or using the toilet.

He slowly took off the clothes he was wearing, then pulled out the [Asylum Patient Gown] and the [Intermediate Protective Suit] from inside.

The patient gown went on the innermost layer, then the [Intermediate Protective Suit] from [Order] went on as the outer layer.

Finally, the original clothes—a set of lightweight athletic wear—were put on by Lin Yu as the outermost layer.

”If I want to disguise myself as a Rakshasa, this outfit is actually the biggest obstacle... Itʼs enough to fool NPCs, since they neither know what a Rakshasa should wear nor understand what this clothing is... but it would be troublesome if I encountered players.”

Lin Yu sighed.

But this issue was easy to solve. He just needed to find an unlucky native Blood Rakshasa after entering, then figure out a way to strip off his clothes and wear them on the outside.

While Lin Yu was changing, Old Zheng, hearing Lin Yuʼs sigh, couldnʼt help but express admiration.

”Youʼre really a genius, actually thinking of pretending to be a Rakshasa...”

Lin Yu nodded: ”Mainly because Iʼve actually seen a Rakshasa before.”

Old Zheng was stunned: ”Damn, youʼve seen a Rakshasa? I havenʼt even seen one!”

”If I remember correctly, thereʼs a saying that all Rakshasas are imprisoned in the Eternal Cage... Uh, so youʼve been to the Eternal Cage? Was it a dungeon, or were you locked up there by [Order] for committing some offense?”

”If it was a [dungeon], youʼre way too awesome. Going in at [First-Tier] or even before promotion and coming out completely unscathed... youʼre simply not human!”

As Old Zheng spoke, Lin Yu shook his head.

”No, it wasnʼt that. A Rakshasa was extracted from the Eternal Cage—you can ask the octopus over there for specifics.”

Hannah said somewhat sheepishly: ”Ribbit! Hehe, I was indeed there!”

Old Zheng grew even more surprised. He looked at Hannah for a long moment, then figured it out.

”So... it was the Banquet God?”

”You really do know a lot, and your brain works fast,” Lin Yu also praised Old Zheng. ”Yes, it was the Banquet God.”

”He really thinks highly of you. I thought only that Crow God was so optimistic about you,” Old Zheng sighed again. ”Youʼre really something, kid. Both the God of Change and the Banquet God value you, and even the Fate Fragments have given you guidance.”

”For me, the trouble outweighs the benefits,” Lin Yu waved his hand dismissively. ”As for the Fate Fragments, I donʼt even know what that thing is.”

”Then itʼs better you donʼt know. That thingʼs setting is a bit like Voldemort or some ancient god. The more you understand it, the more youʼll be entangled with it and form connections with it. Thatʼs not a good thing,” Old Zheng remarked. ”When you have the strength of a [Diviner], you can actively pursue them, but for now, forget about it!”

”Then I wonʼt ask more.”

Although Lin Yu was a bit curious, he had always been able to control his curiosity.

However, Old Zhengʼs management of his own curiosity wasnʼt as good as Lin Yuʼs.

Looking at Lin Yu, he said somewhat excitedly.

”So... are Rakshasas really four-armed, tall, and red-skinned?”

”Yes, and they look like they have very low body fat. The meat looks tough at a glance.”

Lin Yu nodded as he spoke.

Old Zheng joked with a laugh: ”You make it sound like an ingredient...”

But seeing Lin Yu remain silent, Old Zhengʼs voice, still carrying a hint of laughter, gradually trailed off.

”Seriously? An ingredient?”

Lin Yu looked at Hannah. The little octopus asked somewhat puzzled.

”Ribbit? Not allowed?”

Old Zheng immediately retorted: ”Of course not! That thing is an intelligent life form, sentient... We humans, in theory, donʼt eat things that have gained sentience—at least things that can talk and communicate are off-limits!”

Lin Yu shook his head: ”Donʼt include me.”

”Are you serious?”

Old Zheng—that is, the former [Freud], founder of the notorious madman gathering organization [Psychological Society]—inquired of Lin Yu in a tone that implied ”Have you lost your mind?”

Lin Yu smiled: ”Iʼm obviously joking.”

Old Zheng breathed a sigh of relief: ”Thatʼs good. I almost thought Iʼd fallen into Hannibal Lecterʼs hands... In that case, Iʼd have to assess whether you were joking when you called me ʼbrain flower.ʼ”

”Letʼs talk about Rakshasas instead... So, can they really transform?”

Lin Yu looked at Old Zheng strangely: ”Thatʼs obviously fake.”

”Huh? Then arenʼt you afraid someone will expose you for making up such a story?”

”Theyʼd have to know that Rakshasas actually canʼt transform first—and as you just heard, Rakshasas have been gone for a thousand years!”
