Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 34: Types of Games and Classes!

As soon as Lin Yu clicked open the ”Guide Section,” his eyes were immediately drawn to a pinned red post at the top.

”Essential Guide for Newbies!”

Lin Yu swiftly clicked on it with a decisive ”tap”!

After reading through this post...

Lin Yu couldnʼt help but admire how truly essential it was for newcomers!

Clear and well-organized, it answered nearly all his questions!

Rather... it covered every possible question any new player might have.

The post consisted of three parts—about the 『Death Game』, about the 『forum』 itself, and advice on how to interact with other 『Players』.

The first part was about the 『Death Game』.

The author of this guide mentioned that most of this section consisted of playersʼ speculations.
Theories about the origins of the 『Death Game』 varied widely—some factions even formed based on differing interpretations of this very question.

The currently dominant theory was that it was a game created by 『Gods』 to give them a second 『chance』.

All participating players were people who had died once.

And each time a dungeon was cleared...

They would earn seven more days of life.

Seven days later, as the next dungeon approached, bloody text would appear with new ”hints,” telling players how to enter the next game dungeon.

Players could use special 『Party Items』 to join another playerʼs game, thereby avoiding their original dungeon.

Within dungeons, players had the chance to obtain 『Items』.

Just as Uncle ”Harmony Brings Wealth” had said, the number of 『Items』 was an important measure of a new playerʼs strength in the early stages.

The author also mentioned that after players moved past the newbie phase, they would face a trial called 『Promotion』. Players who passed it would experience a world of difference in strength compared to others!

However, the author seemed to avoid elaborating on how exactly 『Promotion』 worked, likely to avoid misleading newcomers.

But no matter how strong a player became, they could never escape the weekly ”dungeon.”

Although there were some 『Special Items』 that allowed players to enter additional dungeons, completing these extra dungeons wouldnʼt reset the seven-day countdown.

Reading this, Lin Yu couldnʼt help but feel a little disheartened.

Though he had expected as much...

Knowing that ”this would happen every week without fail” still gave Lin Yu a headache.

”Is this really a ʼfresh startʼ?”

”Having to worry about this 『Death Game』 every week would take up so much energy!”

Lin Yu even felt like complaining to the gods who wrote the 『bloody text』 about false advertising!

However...

Lin Yu eventually calmed himself down.

Not only because this life was essentially ”free” anyway, but also because looking at this forum gave him a sense of ”at least Iʼm not alone in this.”

Perhaps that was the purpose of the forum—knowing that so many others in the world were also suffering like this made Lin Yu feel slightly better.

Next, the guide delved into some practical information about the Death Game.

For example, the types of 『Classes』 and 『Dungeons』.

Every player would awaken to a 『Class』, their greatest reliance for survival in the Death Game.

And 『Classes』 were categorized.

The simplest and most straightforward were the 『Enhancement Types』, which greatly boosted a specific ability.

Then there were 『Information Types』 and 『Rule Types』, related to the game itself. The former could obtain key information within the game, while the latter could slightly alter the gameʼs rules.

There were also 『Skill Types』, which granted specific abilities.

Beyond these, there were 『Special Types』 that were difficult to classify.

Classes only came in two varieties—『Common Classes』 and 『Unique Classes』.

The distinction was simple: Common Classes could be duplicated, while Unique Classes almost never were.

However, it wasnʼt true that 『Unique Classes』 were necessarily stronger than Common Classes. Based on general information...

The abilities of 『Unique Classes』 were often just more complex and unique! Their holders were also extremely rare!

Most 『Unique Classes』 could be classified as 『Special Types』.

Reading this, Lin Yu understood.

”In my very first game, I encountered every type of class!”

The 『Soldier』 and 『Otaku』 were 『Enhancement Types』!

The 『Teacher』 was an 『Information Type』!

The 『Ruffian』 was the most typical 『Rule Type』!

The 『Thief』 and 『Veterinarian』 were 『Skill Types』!

As for his own 『Fraudster』...

Not only was it a 『Special Type』, but it was also an extremely rare 『Unique Class』!

Because the first game had exposed him to such a complete range of classes, Lin Yu couldnʼt help but feel a little lucky.

Combining his class abilities with this guide...

With this ”information,” carrying out 『Fraud』 would be much easier!

”I should look for more guide posts and memorize the abilities of other classes!”

Lin Yu thought silently.

He felt immense gratitude toward the creator of this forum.

With proper application...

In future dungeons, he could practically assume any 『Class』 he wanted!

No longer would he have to rack his brains like when he first fabricated the 『Detective』—he could just use existing ones!

In fact... Lin Yu felt that from now on, he might have no choice but to use existing ones.

After all, most players had probably visited the forum too.

If you claimed a 『Class』—as long as it wasnʼt a 『Unique Class』—everyone would know exactly what your abilities were.

However, Lin Yu wasnʼt in a hurry to look up summaries of other class abilities just yet.

He continued reading this ”Essential for Newbies” guide.

Because next...

The guide introduced several types of game dungeons!

Just like the classification of classes, these were player-made categories, not ”official” designations from the game itself.

Based on the clearance conditions and main challenges of various dungeons...

Game dungeons were primarily divided into the following types.

『Competition』, 『Survival』, 『Puzzle』, and 『Slaughter』!

『Competition』 was self-explanatory—dungeons focused on player-versus-player conflict, where the clearance condition usually involved defeating an opposing player faction or eliminating everyone else.

『Survival』 dungeons mostly required players to endure and stay alive for a set duration... These dungeons either had extreme environments or an overwhelmingly powerful, terrifying presence that followed predictable patterns.

『Puzzle』 types had clearance conditions that required solving specific riddles. These sounded the simplest but often had ”instant-death mechanics,” making their actual fatality rates just as high.

As for 『Slaughter』... it was the simplest and most brutal—these dungeons also had monsters, but they could actually be defeated!
