Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 20: Performance in Desperation - Begin!

Although Yu Longguo and Xu Xiumei already seemed quite certain.

Lin Yu still hadnʼt given up his ”performance.”

Besides, having awakened as the ”Fraudster,” Lin Yu felt he should struggle a bit more.

What if he managed to bluff his way through?

Thinking this, Lin Yu put on an annoyed expression and glared at Yu Longguo: ”What do you mean? Why do you think Iʼm not a Werewolf? Youʼre the one who doesnʼt seem like a Werewolf!”

”I have Werewolf weapons, do you?”

As he spoke, Lin Yu waved the dagger in his hand.

Yu Longguo took out a curved knife with a wolfʼs head carved on its hilt from his pocket: ”Donʼt try to flip the script on me - I have Werewolf weapons too!”

Chen Zhuo couldnʼt help laughing when he saw Lin Yu and Yu Longguo arguing.

Even in this ”life-or-death situation,” he found it darkly humorous that everyone was competing to prove they were Werewolves in this ”Werewolf game”!
Seeing Yu Longguo produce the curved knife, Lin Yu didnʼt hesitate at all and continued aggressively: ”Then if we both have Werewolf weapons, why do you think Iʼm human instead of a Werewolf?”

Xu Xiumei spoke up then: ”The Thief just said he discussed with you before mistakenly thinking the Ruffian wasnʼt a Werewolf and killing him!”

”You clearly knew yesterday there were more Werewolves, why did you let him kill the Ruffian?”

Xu Xiumei said with great pressure.

Lin Yu was about to speak when Yu Longguo interrupted: ”Donʼt bother making excuses about just realizing it now... I donʼt believe you didnʼt know about your intentional Werewolf-like behavior during yesterdayʼs meeting!”

”Detective, youʼre smart—donʼt say stupid things.”

Yu Longguo blocked one of Lin Yuʼs potential excuses.

But Lin Yu remained calm.

He hadnʼt planned to use such a dumb excuse anyway.

”Because I truly thought the Ruffian was human—the Thief told me he and the Ruffian identified each other as Werewolves because the Ruffian had Werewolf weapons.”

”But I considered the Ruffianʼs ability... so I suspected the Werewolf weapons might be bait from using his ability.”

”Initially seeing how closely bonded the Teacher and Otaku, Ruffian and Thief pairs were, appearing to trust each other completely, I guessed they might be two Werewolf pairs identifying each other. So from my perspective, the humans I initially suspected were the Soldier and Veterinarian.”

”But after killing the Veterinarian, I checked you, Soldier... and youʼre a Werewolf.”

”This proved one human was pretending to be a Werewolf in those two groups... Who could guess my assumption was wrong, and the reality was this ʼOtakuʼ being too stupid, completely fooled by the Teacher!”

”Iʼm really sorry, Brother Thief, I was too arrogant... so I didnʼt tell you the truth!”

Lin Yu said with a sigh.

This speech was quite convincing.

Chen Zhuo looked at Lin Yu in disbelief, as if genuinely thinking he was a Werewolf.

Although Yao Zhengye was unhappy, he also 70-80% believed Lin Yu was a Werewolf.

”Damn it, Detective Bro, you really screwed me over good!”

Even Xu Xiumeiʼs expression showed signs of wavering.

But then, Yu Longguo sneered again and declared loudly: ”Detective, youʼre truly dangerous—your words are too deceptive!”

”If I didnʼt have conclusive evidence... I might have really been fooled by you!”

Yu Longguo said coldly, making Lin Yu feel uneasy.

He looked at Yu Longguo and forced himself to ask: ”What conclusive evidence do you have?”

”That dagger of yours belongs to the ʼVeterinarian.ʼ”

Yu Longguo said calmly, making Lin Yuʼs scalp tingle.

Then, as if to crush any remaining hope, Yu Longguo continued:

”Although I was alone, I completed tasks much faster than youʼd imagine. On the first day, after finishing my first task, I wandered around... and happened to see her enter the storage room alone.”

”I hid, and after she left I went into the storage room... where I found an opened Werewolf weapon box.”

Yu Longguo spoke coldly as Lin Yu felt chills down his spine.

No matter how much he calculated... he could never have anticipated such a coincidence!

Yu Longguoʼs voice came again: ”Stop struggling, Detective! Humans were never meant to win this game!”

”You managing to kill the Veterinarian and scheme the Ruffianʼs death was already beyond my expectations!”

A bitter feeling rose in Lin Yuʼs heart.

Indeed, this game... was too hard for humans!

He attempted one final ”struggle.”

”But is it possible that I really am a Werewolf...”

Yu Longguo cut him off, revealing a cruel, ferocious smile.

”It doesnʼt matter if you are... Lin Yu! There are five Werewolves!”

”This means losing one or two Werewolves doesnʼt matter... Regardless, Iʼll kill you today!”

Yu Longguo declared with cruel finality.

Lin Yu exhaled.

Despair!

This ”Soldier” was even more ruthless and decisive than heʼd imagined!

Truly, his luck was terrible...

Not just because of the coincidence of Yu Longguo witnessing Xia Yue.

But being assigned to the human side was already terrible misfortune!

Because this was a faction where even the smallest ”coincidence” could spell absolute doom!

Especially with his only teammate being the ”Otaku.”

It was just too unbalanced!

Lin Yu even considered giving up—”Maybe I should just die”!

After all, he was already dead anyway!

But instantly, he dismissed this thought.

No way!

It was already absurd enough that he got dragged into this game...

How could he give up just because the game was ”absurdly” unbalanced?!

”Calm down, Lin Yu... being assigned to the human faction might mean the higher beings designing this game believe Iʼm stronger and smarter than all of them combined!”

”Besides, my profession is the ʼUnique Classʼ Fraudster... I shouldnʼt have chosen Detective from the start! Knowing this situation, I shouldʼve claimed to be a Gunman with the ability to summon infinite-ammo AKs!”

Lin Yu thought through gritted teeth.

But he knew that was just fantasy...

If not for being the Detective, he wouldnʼt have immediately spotted the gameʼs ”traps”!

And an ability like ”summoning AKs” would be hard for them to believe!

Moreover... things had progressed this far, with no turning back time!

He needed a solution that could work right now!

Looking at the cold-faced Yu Longguo eagerly gripping his curved knife, Lin Yu felt death approaching step by step.

”Any last words, Detective?”

Should he try fighting Yu Longguo?

The chances were slim...

Even if he defeated Yu Longguo, there was still Xu Xiumei with her gun!

Try convincing them heʼs a Werewolf again?

No use—Yu Longguo was determined to kill him...

And with suspicion already cast, further delays would be meaningless.

The more Lin Yu thought, the more despair he felt.

The only solution seemed to be ”turning back time”!

But then, an insane idea suddenly flashed through Lin Yuʼs mind.

What if time... could really be turned back?

His entire body trembled uncontrollably.

”Fraudster, performance...”

Lin Yu remembered his old theater professorʼs teachings.

”Performance is essentially deceiving the audience, and the most primitive performances originating from ʼwitchcraftʼ were meant to deceive ʼgodsʼ and ʼthe worldʼ!”

”People dressed in green during harsh winters, dancing to portray vibrant trees, attempting to deceive gods and the world into thinking spring was coming, making ʼgodsʼ bestow warmth and moisture.”

The current situation could indeed be called desperate.

But his innate ”performance talent” had already brought him through desperate situations before.

Lin Yu took a deep breath.

Since he was going to die anyway, why not try...

In these final moments of life...

To perform a grand spectacle capable of deceiving the world and gods!

He looked up at Yu Longguo, revealing a helpless smile.

”Ah, this time... I lose again to you!”

Now...

The performance begins.
