Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 30: A Successful Performance! Lin Yuʼs Solo Investigation!

Lin Yu had his reasons for approaching Shen Bingmiao.

This senior who was one year above him was the most ”famous” figure at Jiangcheng Media University.

And her fame had little to do with her identity as ”Drama Club President.”

Shen Bingmiao became famous because during her freshman year, she hacked into the schoolʼs academic system to send push notifications to every studentʼs app, promoting the drama clubʼs new play.

This earned her disciplinary action from the university.

Though Shen Bingmiao loved theater and scriptwriting and attended a media university, her major was actually ”Digital Media Arts.”

She had also independently participated in Jiangchengʼs university programming competition, thoroughly defeating the computer science teams from neighboring Jiangcheng Polytechnic and Jiangcheng University.

So when Lin Yu sought Shen Bingmiaoʼs help...

He naturally hoped she could directly access the academic records of all Jiangcheng Media University freshmen.

In the backstage lounge of the activity center, Lin Yu watched as Shen Bingmiao opened her laptop, clicked a few times, and pulled up several windows...
”Here, all the freshman academic records.”

”Thanks, President.”

Lin Yu filtered for ”female” students and began rapidly scrolling through.

Jiangcheng Media University had enrolled over 3,000 freshmen this year, with slightly more girls—nearly 2,000.

Lin Yu had sharp recognition skills, scanning four profiles per page at a glance...

The girl who killed him wasnʼt there.

Of course, it helped that his junior was strikingly beautiful in a distinctive way.

Those bright, sharp eyes—Lin Yu would never forget them.

In less than half an hour, Lin Yu reached the end.

”Not here.”

He sighed regretfully.

Seeing Lin Yuʼs disappointed expression, Shen Bingmiao grew even more curious.

”You donʼt seem to be looking for a crush...”

”Letʼs just say Iʼm looking for my attacker.”

Lin Yu shook his head.

”Could it be a boy? You only checked girls,” Shen Bingmiao analyzed. ”Maybe itʼs a ʼcrossdressing expertʼ!”

”No, that body type and facial structure were definitely female,” Lin Yu stated firmly. ”And if a boy looked like that... heʼd probably be famous campus-wide by now.”

Jiangcheng Media Universityʼs acting program was renowned, so the school wasnʼt lacking in beautiful girls or handsome boys. Even if last nightʼs ”junior” was stunning, she might still be unknown.

But if it had been a boy that beautiful...

Lin Yu would have recognized him immediately last night!

Shen Bingmiao clicked her tongue. ”Alright, want me to help you... investigate through other means?”

”If you mistook her for a student, she must look college-aged. Jiangcheng doesnʼt have that many universities...”

She sounded eager, but Lin Yu hesitated before declining.

”Forget it, President.”

If Shen Bingmiao dug deeper, Lin Yu worried she might get into trouble.

He still didnʼt understand the motives of that mysterious girl who killed him—or whether she was prone to killing indiscriminately...

But she was undoubtedly dangerous, capable of pulling out a pistol at any moment and likely a participant in the ”Death Game.”

As a Death Game participant himself, Lin Yu knew well...

This game had taught him to cherish life—his own life!

But toward othersʼ lives...

Lin Yu couldnʼt deny his attitude had become more dismissive!

Because heʼd genuinely killed someone in the Death Game.

Like how man-eating beasts canʼt be kept, the same logic applies to killers...

They begin considering ”killing” as a potential ”solution”—something ordinary people would never seriously contemplate.

”Donʼt worry, President... itʼs just a small matter.”

”It wonʼt affect my stage performance!”

Lin Yu declared confidently.

Seeing his assurance, Shen Bingmiao could only nod.

”Fine, I believe you... after all, youʼre our drama clubʼs 『Ace』!”

True to Lin Yuʼs promise...

During subsequent rehearsals, he seemed to have completely forgotten his worries, maintaining perfect form.

Even Shen Bingmiao had to admit...

Lin Yuʼs performance today was truly flawless.

”Heʼs in great form...”

”No, itʼs beyond just ʼgood formʼ—itʼs like he leveled up overnight!”

”Almost as if someone held a gun to his head last night, forcing him to practice acting all night!”

Shen Bingmiao muttered.

Little did she know...

This joking remark held a grain of truth!

Last night, Lin Yu had indeed performed his most successful improv act with a gun pointed at his head!

Playing the 『Detective』, the 『Player』, and... a 『God』!

Lin Yu could feel it himself...

After experiencing last nightʼs Death Game, his acting had undergone a ”sublimation”!

”Is this what teachers mean by life experience improving acting...?”

That evening, after the final curtain call...

Hearing the thunderous applause, seeing students whoʼd only come for ”credits” or as reluctant plus-ones now completely immersed in his performance, Lin Yu felt deeply moved.

His acting had always been good, but todayʼs emotional impact was unprecedented!

”A blessing in disguise?”

Lin Yu chuckled at the thought.

Still... improved acting was always good news!

”President, Iʼm heading out now!”

Seeing the darkened sky outside, Lin Yu changed out of his costume backstage and bid farewell to Shen Bingmiao.

”『Ace』, we still have the thank-you session and fan interaction!”

Shen Bingmiao reminded him.

Lin Yu grinned: ”Just say I have a ʼstomachacheʼ—the lead actor performed through illness but canʼt meet the audience afterward... Iʼm sure everyone will understand, right?”

With that, Lin Yu walked straight out of the drama club.

”Hey! Get back here!”

Shen Bingmiao stomped her foot in frustration, powerless to stop him.

Watching Lin Yuʼs retreating figure, she sighed.

”Fine, weʼll do as he says...”

”Hope his ʼfansʼ wonʼt be too upset.”

...

After leaving the drama club, Lin Yu hopped on his bicycle and hurried off campus.

His current destination...

Was naturally the address on that card—”940 Changming Street, Shangnan District, Jiangcheng”!

Though the timing wasnʼt right...

Lin Yu still wanted to scout the location in advance.
