Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 16: The Wonderful Use of the Lie Detector! Lin Yu Going Solo!

A lie detector?!

Lin Yu was somewhat surprised when he saw Chen Zhuo take out that little device.

But soon, a thought occurred to Lin Yu - he realized this deviceʼs appearance was actually beneficial for him!

Lin Yu immediately turned to Chen Zhuo and said sternly: ”Fine, letʼs do the lie detector test—Iʼm not afraid of you—turn it on right now!!”

Chen Zhuo snorted coldly: ”Alright, letʼs see how you keep up your tough talk later.”

Xu Xiumei added from the side: ”Donʼt try any tricks later - this lie detector can only test ʼone sentenceʼ per day.”

Chen Zhuo froze for a moment and looked at Xu Xiumei: ”Teacher Xu, why are you telling him this?”

Xu Xiumei seemed to realize she had spoken out of turn and looked apologetic.

”Oh...sorry, I was worried he might make trouble and waste this precious opportunity.”

”But this way, if he avoids the question later, we can directly assume heʼs afraid to take the test, right?”
Xu Xiumei said seriously.

Chen Zhuo nodded.

”Alright, Teacher Xu!”

Lin Yu narrowed his eyes.

Indeed, between these two...Chen Zhuo was more likely to be his ”human teammate.”

Xu Xiumeiʼs earlier words seemed suspiciously like feeding him information.

Of course, this didnʼt matter to Lin Yu.

”I wonʼt play any tricks, letʼs just get started.”

Chen Zhuo pressed the button on the side of the lie detector.

”Begin!”

He pointed the lie detector at Lin Yu, and the indicator light lit up.

Lin Yu looked at the device and calmly said: ”Xia Yueʼs death has absolutely nothing to do with me.”

”BEEP—”

The lie detectorʼs light turned red and emitted a sharp sound.

Chen Zhuo jumped up excitedly.

”See! Youʼre lying!”

Lin Yuʼs face showed astonishment—but this expression was also part of his act.

Because...

Lin Yuʼs goal was to make everyone think he was definitely the werewolf!

This way, probably only Chen Zhuo would vote for him.

Moreover, going forward...

To all the werewolves, he would appear as their most likely ”teammate.”

Therefore, when Lin Yu confronted Xia Yue on the stairs, he hadnʼt just considered how the stairwayʼs layout made it easier to counterattack an armed Xia Yue.

Another important reason was that stairways are open areas where bodies can be easily discovered—making Lin Yu more suspicious.

As for why he made it so obvious...

Lin Yu looked towards Bao Liu and Yao Zhengyeʼs group.

Yu Longguo and Xu Xiumei were easier to handle—they must already think heʼs their werewolf teammate.

But Bao Liu and Yao Zhengye likely identified each other as werewolves on the first day!

So Lin Yu had to make it extremely obvious to make these two doubt their initial judgment and believe he was the werewolf.

Sure enough, Bao Liu now wore a ”Iʼm thinking” expression, while Yao Zhengye kept glancing sideways at Bao Liu with disbelief.

Of course...

Even after all this, Lin Yu still had to put up a fight.

What if the other ”werewolves” thought he was a lost cause and voted him out immediately?

Although the voting was anonymous, theyʼd probably avoid voting if possible—since there were only two werewolves left, even if Lin Yu got voted out, someone abstaining could easily claim ”I didnʼt vote.”

But regardless, he still needed to make excuses.

Facing the red-blinking lie detector, Lin Yu began his nearly nitpicking ”defense.”

”What, just because you say Iʼm lying means Iʼm lying? Maybe the red light means telling the truth!”

”Besides, you say this thingʼs a lie detector, but I say itʼs a tape recorder—might even be nail clippers!”

”Most importantly, even if what I said was a ʼlie,ʼ so what? I said ʼXia Yueʼs death has absolutely nothing to do with meʼ...maybe her death actually does involve me?”

”After all, it was because I got separated from her that led to you killing her!”

Lin Yu fired off rapidly.

Chen Zhuo listened with continuous sneers.

”These are just weak excuses. Do you see anyone believing you?”

”I call for a vote!”

Chen Zhuo shouted.

Suddenly, a flame ignited before each person.

From the flames dropped a white paper and a quill pen.

Blood-red words appeared on the paper.

”Write the name of the person you wish to banish!”

Chen Zhuo immediately grabbed the pen and started writing furiously.

Lin Yu also wrote ”Chen Zhuo” on his paper.

Then, the voting concluded—

”Whoosh!”

The flames reappeared, consuming the papers and pens.

This time though, everyone was getting used to the gameʼs dramatics and werenʼt startled.

Next, bloody words appeared on the wall.

”This roundʼs voting results—”

”Lin Yu votes: 1”

”Chen Zhuo votes: 1”

”Tied votes, and no one received over half the votes. No one is banished.”

The bloody words gradually faded.

Chen Zhuo was dumbfounded: ”Dude, you guys...”

But before Chen Zhuo could finish, Lin Yu loudly interrupted: ”What are you all doing? Why not vote out this otaku! Heʼs targeting me, the ʼDetectiveʼ—Iʼm the highest status here! Damn it, can you even play? Why didnʼt you follow the vote?!”

Chen Zhuo was stunned, staring at Lin Yu with his mouth hanging open.

He wanted to ask...

Why did you say all my lines?

Why is the werewolf in such a hurry?!

The others, having been berated by Lin Yu and recalling the vote count, also seemed surprised.

Clearly, Lin Yu not being eliminated...was unexpected for them too.

However, Lin Yu observed that the remaining four didnʼt seem too bothered by it.

Almost as if thinking ”not getting eliminated is good anyway,” they had already started resting.

Only Chen Zhuo, full of resentment, found a corner sofa and began snoring loudly.

And so...

Time came to the second day!

Dawn broke again, and Lin Yu got up from the sofa.

Despite having killed someone, he had slept better than ever last night.

It was time to assign tasks again.

Yu Longguo stood before the schedule board and glanced at Lin Yu.

”Your ʼpartnerʼ is dead...regardless of whether youʼre the killer, whatʼs your plan now?”

”Of course he should team up with you, Soldier Bro! You need to keep a close eye on this werewolf!”

Chen Zhuo quickly interjected.

Lin Yu spoke unhurriedly: ”But I think I should go solo...if I really am the werewolf, arenʼt you risking Brother Yuʼs life?”

Chen Zhuo said anxiously: ”But Brother Yu has the Soldier ability, his physical abilities are five times normal...”

”Stop being so generous with other peopleʼs lives! Otaku, donʼt you realize werewolves might have weapons? Even with five times the physique, you shouldnʼt make the Soldier take risks!”

Lin Yu reprimanded sternly.

Chen Zhuo, caught on the moral high ground by Lin Yu, was left speechless, his face turning red.

Xu Xiumei quickly pulled at Chen Zhuo.

”Alright, stop arguing with him.”

Yu Longguo also gave Lin Yu a meaningful look before saying steadily: ”Fine, weʼll do as you suggest!”
