Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 18: Convincing Chen Zhuo! The Worst Possible Situation!

After Lin Yuʼs smooth talking, Yao Zhengye was gripping his axe, his eyes filled with murderous intent.

”Brother Lin, youʼre right. We have to strike first now!”

”But I have one concern, Brother Lin... The ruffian is in my group after all. Wonʼt killing him make me look suspicious?”

Lin Yu waved his hand dismissively.

”No problem, just go ahead and kill him. While youʼre doing that, I wonʼt be idle either—Iʼll find an opportunity to kill another one.”

”With two deaths happening at once, and both of us werewolves still in play—you saw yesterdayʼs vote. As long as we stick together in voting, we wonʼt be eliminated!”

Lin Yu said confidently.

”Even if I donʼt find a good opportunity, try to hide the body well—this way we might get a chance to double-kill, then vote out the last one during the meeting. Instant victory!”

Yao Zhengye, thoroughly convinced by Lin Yuʼs words, felt victory within reach.

”Got it, Brother Lin! I knew you were smart!”
”Having someone like you as a teammate is such a blessing!”

Lin Yu patted Yao Zhengyeʼs shoulder. ”But you must be careful. Everything depends on you successfully killing the ruffian... So donʼt hesitate when you see him. Strike immediately! No matter what he says, donʼt falter!”

Yao Zhengye nodded excitedly.

”Donʼt worry, Brother Lin. Iʼll split his head open with one swing!”

With that, Yao Zhengye lifted his axe and left.

Lin Yu watched him go, a faint smile playing on his lips.

Perfect. Whether Yao Zhengye killed Bao Liu or Bao Liu counter-killed Yao Zhengye, the number of werewolves would decrease by one...

Next, he needed to regain Chen Zhuoʼs trust.

If he could win over Chen Zhuo, the game would be completely under Lin Yuʼs control!

Lin Yu recalled the tasks assigned to Chen Zhuo and Xu Xiumei.

At this point, they might have already completed the first two tasks...

Lin Yu quickly finished clearing his own first task, then headed to the third-floor bedroom area.

This was the location of Chen Zhuo and Xu Xiumeiʼs third task.

After scouting the area, Lin Yu was pleasantly surprised to find an unopened human ”supply crate” in the bedroom.

”What a lucky find!”

Not long after...

Lin Yu saw Chen Zhuo appear alone.

The chubby boy panted as he climbed the stairs, stopping at the bedroom door.

”Such a perfect opportunity?!”

Overjoyed, Lin Yu waited for Chen Zhuo to approach before jumping out.

”Hey, otaku!”

Chen Zhuo nearly jumped out of his skin at Lin Yuʼs sudden appearance.

Recognizing Lin Yu, Chen Zhuo immediately turned to flee.

But Lin Yu grabbed hold of the overweight boy before he could escape.

Before Chen Zhuo could scream, Lin Yu spoke quickly.

”Otaku, if I wanted to kill you, Iʼd have slit your throat already—so donʼt scream!”

As he spoke, Lin Yu drew his dagger and pressed it against Chen Zhuoʼs neck.

Chen Zhuo turned pale, stammering: ”D-donʼt be rash! Teacher Xu is just finishing the second task—she sent me ahead! Sheʼll be here soon! If you kill me, youʼll definitely be voted out this time!”

”Iʼm not killing you. I know youʼre human—so am I,” Lin Yu said coldly. ”I did kill Xia Yue, but she was the werewolf... I just disarmed her and counter-killed her!”

”The game rules never said humans canʼt kill werewolves—use your pig brain for once! Would a crucial information role like ʼDetectiveʼ really be a werewolf?!”

Lin Yu spoke with absolute conviction, adding: ”Thereʼs a human supply crate in this bedroom. If you donʼt believe me, Iʼll open it for you!”

With that, he released Chen Zhuo.

Chen Zhuo looked at Lin Yu with skepticism.

”You... really are human?”

”Of course!”

Lin Yu pushed open the bedroom door and headed straight for the brown crate in the corner.

With a click, he opened the human supply crate, retrieving food and water before tossing some bread to Chen Zhuo.

Now mostly convinced, Chen Zhuo exclaimed: ”Damn, Detective... you really are human?!”

He looked apologetic, scratching his head sheepishly: ”Sorry about last night, voting for you as a werewolf.”

But the apology quickly faded as Chen Zhuo stroked his chin: ”Though to be fair, can you blame me? You acted exactly like a werewolf last night.”

”I did it on purpose,” Lin Yu said calmly. ”If I hadnʼt acted like a werewolf, I mightʼve been voted out—doesnʼt it strike you as odd that despite looking so suspicious, only you voted against me?”

Chen Zhuo was puzzled: ”What do you mean?”

”It means this game has a ʼword trapʼ—the human faction are actually the two outsiders.”

”The Soldier is a werewolf, the Ruffian is a werewolf, the Veterinarian is a werewolf, the Thief is a werewolf... and even the damn Teacher is a werewolf! Only the two of us are human!”

This revelation shocked Chen Zhuo.

”Holy shit, seriously?!”

Chen Zhuo grabbed his hair, muttering to himself: ”Now that I think about it, Teacher Xu never opened any human crates... she even made me open the lie detector and pistol crates!”

After Chen Zhuo spoke, Lin Yu asked:

”Right, Teacher Xu... wait, pistol?”

Chen Zhuo nodded: ”Yeah, Teacher Xuʼs profession ability gives ʼone useful piece of information about this gameʼ... Her info was that the human faction has two powerful ʼitemsʼ—a lie detector and a pistol.”

”The lie detector can verify one statement per day, and the pistol only has one bullet—but it never misses.”

Chen Zhuo explained seriously.

A bad feeling crept into Lin Yuʼs heart: ”Whereʼs the pistol now?”

”With Teacher Xu...”

Realization dawned on Chen Zhuoʼs face as well.

Now the humansʼ best weapon against the werewolves was in a werewolfʼs hands!

Lin Yu remained silent for a long time before looking at Chen Zhuo.

”Level with me, Chen Zhuo. What exactly is your ability?”

”My ability reduces physical exertion to one-third normal levels when I remain still, with triple recovery speed.”

Chen Zhuo answered honestly.

After a few seconds of silence, Lin Yu smiled: ”Since that pistol only has one bullet, how about you take the hit? A guaranteed hit doesnʼt mean guaranteed death—if you lie still afterwards, you might heal!”

”Besides, this is your fault to begin with!”

Chen Zhuo turned pale: ”Bro, are you serious?”

”Just joking.”

Lin Yu sighed.

The Soldier was already tough to kill, and now there was an armed Teacher...

This game was brutal. Lin Yu could hardly imagine a worse situation.

”Guess weʼll have to rely on ambushes... or trick Yao Zhengye again...”

Lin Yu sighed, contemplating solutions.

Just then...

The bedroom door opened.

Seeing the two people entering, Lin Yu exhaled slowly.

Turns out... things could indeed get worse.

The newcomers were none other than Soldier Yu Longguo and Teacher Xu Xiumei!
