Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 17: Lin Yuʼs Scheme! Yao Zhengye Gets Fooled!

After memorizing the ”tasks” he needed to complete, Lin Yu left the conference room alone.

He still went to the second floor.

The first task was in the second-floor kitchen, requiring him to clean the kitchen stove.

After entering the kitchen, Lin Yu closed the door and let out a sigh.

”This is exhausting...”

But the exhaustion was worth it.

Last nightʼs ”hyperactive” and somewhat ”idiotic” speech and performance had definitely left a deep impression.

Now, except for Chen Zhuo, the other four players—the remaining werewolves—probably more or less believed he was their teammate.

Yu Longguo and Xu Xiumei were obvious cases...

Even Bao Liu and Yao Zhengye, who had confirmed each otherʼs identities, might feel something was off.
”I just donʼt know if these two are smart enough to realize that ʼthere are actually five werewolvesʼ...”

Lin Yu wiped the bloodstains off the stove with a rag while pondering.

Of course, he hoped they wouldnʼt figure it out!

Just as he was halfway through cleaning, the kitchen door creaked open.

Yao Zhengye peeked in cautiously, then looked at Lin Yu.

He grinned and spoke.

”Detective Bro... Lin Bro! Doing your task?”

Seeing Yao Zhengye sneaking in alone like this, Lin Yu was already 70-80% sure of his intentions.

As expected, Yao Zhengye and Bao Liu hadnʼt pieced together the truth that ”there are five werewolves”!

Yao Zhengye coming alone...

was probably to confirm whether Lin Yu was truly a werewolf!

If Lin Yu was real, then Bao Liu must be the fake!

But even so, Lin Yu pretended not to understand Yao Zhengyeʼs motive and put on a guarded expression.

He placed a hand near his waist and spoke cautiously.

”Youʼre the Thief... Why are you alone? Whereʼs your teammate?”

”Iʼm warning you, donʼt come any closer!”

Lin Yu said coldly, prompting Yao Zhengye to quickly explain.

”Bro, I know youʼre a werewolf—weʼre teammates!”

As he spoke, Yao Zhengye hurriedly pulled out a sharp hand axe from his coat, its handle engraved with a wolfʼs head.

”Look, this is my werewolf-exclusive weapon.”

Lin Yu feigned surprise upon seeing it.

”Youʼre a werewolf too?!”

He naturally drew his dagger from his waist, weighing it in his hand, but suddenly put on a fierce expression.

”Wait, you didnʼt steal this from one of my werewolf teammates using your Thief ability to trick me, did you?”

Yao Zhengye quickly defended himself.

”Bro, I really am your teammate—yesterday morning, I saw you on the third floor after killing the Veterinarian, leaning over the railing gagging!”

”But I didnʼt tell anyone during last nightʼs meeting... Doesnʼt that prove Iʼm on your side?”

Yao Zhengye desperately tried to prove his loyalty.

Only then did Lin Yu pretend to have a realization.

”So you really are my teammate?!”

”Thatʼs great, the two of us can work together... We can do double kills now!”

”And even though the Soldier is strong, he wonʼt stand a chance against both of us!”

Lin Yu put on an excited act.

Seeing Lin Yu practically itching to rush out and start slaughtering, Yao Zhengye was fully convinced Lin Yu was a werewolf.

But then, he hesitated.

”But Detective Bro, thereʼs something weird,” Yao Zhengye said awkwardly. ”The Ruffian in my group also seems to be a werewolf—and we confirmed each otherʼs identities yesterday.”

Just as expected!

Lin Yu had anticipated this exact scenario!

The fact that Yao Zhengye was sharing this with him... meant he likely trusted Lin Yu more as his real teammate.

So Lin Yu also acted confused: ”Huh? How did you figure that out?”

Yao Zhengye scratched his head and chuckled. ”Detective Bro, your guess about my ability was right. As the ʼThief,ʼ I can steal an item from someone—once per day, I randomly take one item from a person!”

”After finishing the first task yesterday, the Ruffian sneaked off, making an excuse about going to the bathroom, but I saw him heading in the wrong direction.”

”When he came back, I got suspicious and used my ʼThiefʼ ability on him... and found a machete with a wolfʼs head engraving on him! Clearly a werewolf-exclusive weapon!”

”I figured he might be a werewolf, so I confronted him, told him my identity, and gave the machete back.”

”At first, he didnʼt believe me, but then we found a ʼwerewolf boxʼ—I opened it in front of him, and he was completely convinced!”

As Yao Zhengye explained, he fell into thought. ”Bro, do you think there might be more than two werewolves?”

While listening, Lin Yuʼs mind raced.

Should he tell Yao Zhengye the ”truth” here to gain more trust?

No, wait!

Just now, in Yao Zhengyeʼs story, there was a ”fatal trap” that could be used to bury Bao Liu!

Lin Yu suddenly had an epiphany and turned to Yao Zhengye with a dark expression.

”Damn it, you got played by that bastard Ruffian!”

”Using a werewolf box and weapons to verify identities is a good idea... but you forgot about the Ruffianʼs ability!”

Hearing this, Yao Zhengyeʼs face paled.

”Oh no, his ability is to break one rule... He used it to open the werewolf box!!”

”Crap, my identity is already exposed to him!”

Under Lin Yuʼs guidance, Yao Zhengye reached this conclusion.

And the more he thought about it, the more it made sense...

Given Bao Liuʼs arrogant and hot-tempered personality, using his ”Ruffian” ability to force-open a werewolf box and arm himself was totally plausible!

Seizing the moment, Lin Yu pressed further.

”I just used my Detective ability today... The Ruffian is human!”

Sweat beaded on Yao Zhengyeʼs forehead. ”Then what do we do, Detective Bro? He already knows who I am!”

Lin Yu immediately reassured him in a low voice. ”Donʼt panic. He didnʼt expose you in yesterdayʼs meeting, which means heʼs still playing along for now.”

”With his selfish and violent nature, he probably isnʼt planning to tell anyone about you... He might be waiting to expose two werewolves at once! Or maybe he plans to kill them himself!”

”And I strongly suspect he enjoys watching the werewolves kill a few people first, turning this into a ʼbloodbathʼ... Even if heʼs on the same side, he might not want the others to survive.”

”For example, when I killed Xia Yue yesterday, he was probably thrilled—after all, he argued with her on the first day!”

After hearing this, Yao Zhengye nodded in agreement.

”That Ruffian really is... So what do we do now, Lin Bro?”

Lin Yuʼs expression turned ruthless as he made a throat-slitting gesture.

”Strike first—while heʼs still unprepared, you ambush and kill him!”
