Urban Powerhouse: Chaos Supreme

Luo Yu, Lin Mo, and Yingzi followed a soldier down a white metal corridor that stretched for about a hundred meters before they finally arrived at a flat plaza. The ground was constructed of a special metal.

Floating at half-height were some semi-transparent screens, with various data streaming like flowing water and some surveillance footage, while many people busily attended to their work inside.

”Xiao Mo,” a resonant voice called out across the plaza.

A middle-aged man in a military uniform, with a gentle smile on his face, approached him. It was none other than Minister Lou of the Security Bureau, followed by a Bald Man.

”Minister Lou,” Lin Mo nodded politely but his gaze fell on the Bald Man.

Minister Lou smiled and said, ”Xiao Mo, were you just using your spiritual power to probe the base?”

”Mm, did Minister Lou notice?” Lin Mo asked with a smile.

”This base is an important one for our equipment research. It is not only equipped with an incredibly strong physical defense system, capable of withstanding even a nuclear bomb, but it also has systems specifically designed to guard against magic users and spiritual persons,” Minister Lou explained.

It was clear that Minister Lou wasn’t hiding much from Lin Mo, signaling his desire to forge a close bond with him.

”This is Zhang Qiang, a member of our Security Bureau. He was born with extraordinary spiritual power and can hypnotize and even pry into and manipulate others’ consciousness. Our base’s spiritual defense system has greatly benefited from his assistance,” Minister Lou introduced.

Zhang Qiang was the Bald Man standing beside him. He gave Lin Mo a nod on seeing him but then his face turned pale and he took a step back.

Minister Lou frowned, ”Zhang Qiang, what’s wrong?”

”I’m fine, thanks to Instructor Lin for showing mercy,” Zhang Qiang said, nodding at Lin Mo with a look of reverence in his eyes.

It turned out that Zhang Qiang had tried to use his spiritual power to test Lin Mo, but Lin Mo’s spiritual power was incredibly strong, as he practiced the Ancient Refining God Technique, and almost shattered Zhang Qiang’s spirit.

Lin Mo said indifferently, ”Don’t do that again. If I hadn’t controlled it well, the automatic defense of my spiritual power could have severely injured you, or even destroyed your soul.”

”Thank you for the warning, Instructor Lin,” Zhang Qiang said, breaking out in a cold sweat upon hearing Lin Mo’s words.

Watching Lin Mo, Minister Lou’s eyes were full of admiration. ”It’s lucky for the Flame Dragon and fortunate for Huaxia to produce such a heroic figure like you. ’Blue is wrought from indigo but excels it.’ Who knows, maybe Huaxia will have a second Vermilion Bird President.”

”The Vermilion Bird President?” Lin Mo furrowed his brows, a puzzled expression on his face.

Realizing his slip, Minister Lou sighed and said, ”But that person has been gone for a long time. It’s only normal for you to be unaware of him; he was a hero to our people.”

”Let’s not talk about that right now. Come to my office,” Minister Lou said, leading Lin Mo and the others into an office. The office was entirely constructed from glass, which allowed visibility from the inside out, but those outside couldn’t see in. Additionally, the glass was of a special composition that even armor-piercing bullets could not penetrate at close range.

”Xiao Mo, you know that the people from Heavenly Sect are restless. The Security Bureau also has differing opinions; that’s why last time...” Minister Lou got straight to the point.

Lin Mo nodded, ”I understand what Minister Lou means. The Security Bureau has the overall picture to consider. I don’t want to be bound by the Security Bureau. I’ll speak frankly this time: if I can be of help to the Security Bureau, I hope you can protect some of my worldly friends.”

”Mm, that’s not a problem. As long as you can help us overcome difficulties, I naturally have ways to convince the other top-level officials in the Security Bureau,” Minister Lou nodded.

This was exactly why Lin Mo had come. The path of cultivation didn’t offer the chance to roam the cosmos or luxuriate in eternal life; it only provided a set of rules even more ruthless than modern society and a brutal survival creed based on kill or be killed.

Lin Mo simply wanted his friends from the secular world to spend their years in peace, ensuring their lifelong happiness and comfort.

”I’m waiting for someone else to come, just wait a moment,” Minister Lou said.

Just after he finished speaking, a virtual screen rose in front of Minister Lou on the glass Lin Shang, showing a woman who spoke up, ”Director, Elder Huo has arrived.”

”Please let him in.”

Right after he finished speaking, the office door was knocked and then opened, revealing an elder dressed in white Tai Chi apparel with a head of silver hair, standing at the doorway, accompanied by a casually dressed woman with a clean ponytail and a cool demeanor, yet her eyes brimming with intense curiosity.

”Elder Huo,” Minister Lou stood up and greeted with a smile.

”Director Lou,” Huo Jiaming also nodded his head.

However, when Huo Yongshi saw Lin Mo seated in the office, her clear eyes suddenly widened, and she exclaimed, ”What are you doing here?”

Lin Mo also didn’t expect to encounter this woman here.

”Little Shi, is he a friend of yours?” Huo Jiaming asked, looking at Lin Mo, curious.

In his impression, his granddaughter was a Heavenly Beauty, very aloof at heart, and she hardly considered any man worthy of attention.

”He’s not a friend, just a hateful guy,” Huo Yongshi said softly.

Minister Lou also displayed an awkward expression, as if there was some conflict between Huo Yongshi and Lin Mo.

”You’re talking nonsense, believe it or not, I’ll tear your mouth apart?” Yingzi’s temper was not good, and if anyone dared speak ill of her Family Head, she immediately glared back with wide eyes.

Huo Yongshi glanced at Yingzi, took her as Lin Mo’s girlfriend, and snorted softly.

Huo Jiaming’s face darkened slightly. The Huo Family was a Super Family of Ancient Capital, and Huo Yongshi was the apple of his eye, the precious daughter of the Huo Family. Who would dare to reprimand his granddaughter to his face like this?

”Elder Huo, Xiao Mo, I think there might be some misunderstanding between you two. I invited you both here today to help with a new equipment research issue, let’s head to the laboratory first,” Minister Lou said, trying to smooth things over.

Lin Mo swept a glance at Huo Jiaming and Huo Yongshi without taking them seriously, nodded his head, then stood up and followed Minister Lou to the laboratory.

”Hmph! What’s with the arrogance,” Huo Yongshi saw Lin Mo’s cold demeanor and scoffed with disdain.

The base had hundreds of large and small laboratories, each responsible for different domains and specializations, and they were all staffed by national scientific talents. Their status within the research base was even higher than that of Minister Lou.

Minister Lou took Lin Mo and others in an elevator down to a laboratory on the fourth sublevel. Entry to the laboratory and elevator required iris recognition and a passcode – the security here was so tight not even a fly could enter.

The testing area was about the size of a basketball court, with transparent glass on all sides, and several people were already standing inside.

”Director.”

”Old Lou.”

Inside the lab, several people called out.

Among them were two men in their early fifties, dressed in military uniforms, obviously high-ranking officials in the Security Bureau. There were also several scientific personnel in work attire.
