Flash Marriage: Pampered by Mr.Bigshot

Chapter 196: Chapter 195: Criticizing Rabina in Front of Uncle Peary

However, no one could understand his actions, including Nia Mitchell herself.

But obeying orders from superiors was paramount in any job.

So, she had no choice but to abandon the task of pouring water and turn to leave.

Just as she opened the door, Maxwell Peary appeared before her.

”Uh... Unc— Hello, Mr. Peary.”

Nia Mitchell stuck her tongue out playfully. She had almost called him ’Uncle Peary’—that was close! Thankfully, she was quick-witted.

Maxwell Peary’s cold expression softened slightly, a hint of tenderness in his eyes as he looked at Nia Mitchell.

After the brief encounter, Nia Mitchell fled like a deserter.

Maxwell Peary watched her retreating figure with concern until she turned a corner and vanished from sight.

Why is she always so impetuous? he thought. She never takes proper care of herself. The company floors are polished and bright, but they’re also a bit slippery. What if she missteps and falls?

Thousands of worries flashed through Maxwell Peary’s mind. He gazed after her for a long time, only entering the Conference Room when Alan Morgan prompted him.

Inside the Conference Room, an oily-faced manager, noting Maxwell Peary’s earlier gaze, secretly tried to divine his thoughts. He then spoke, ”When did the Secretary Department hire such a newbie? I wonder how she even got in. She can’t even handle simple tasks like serving tea and fetching water properly. And she gets so flustered and rushed when she sees you, Mr. Peary.”

Maxwell Peary had a well-known aversion to women and never showed them any particular favor.

So, it wasn’t hard to guess, the manager thought. Mr. Peary must have been furious with that new little secretary. If I just echo what Mr. Peary is thinking and speak up before anyone else, I’ll definitely make a good impression on him. That way, my worries will be over! I’ll definitely get a promotion and a raise, and then... Haha, a wonderful life is beckoning! Just thinking about it is fantastic!

However, his much-vaunted observational skills failed to detect Maxwell Peary’s expression darkening progressively as he listened.

Serving tea and fetching water? Maxwell Peary fumed internally. That man actually made *my* cherished little Rabina Mitchell serve tea and fetch water? Damn his nerve!

Maxwell Peary was so furious he almost flipped the table, his face a mask of rage.

”You’re from the Procurement Department, aren’t you?” Maxwell Peary asked, his voice cold.

He had a faint recollection of the man, if memory served.

”Yes, yes, that’s right!” the manager stammered, nodding eagerly.

The manager beamed. Mr. Peary actually remembers me! This is wonderful!

”You can go and collect your final paycheck now,” Maxwell Peary stated icily. ”I don’t want to see you ever again.”

Maxwell Peary walked coldly to his seat and sat down, wishing he could simply make the man disappear.

But I can’t do that, he thought. I’m not a tyrant who solves everything with violence. I don’t want to give Nia Mitchell that kind of impression of me, nor do I want any negative rumors reaching her. So, the only option is the lightest punishment: make him leave MC Group and disappear from my sight forever.

Others, however, couldn’t comprehend this decision, especially the manager who had just been abruptly fired.

”Mr. Peary, did I do something wrong?” he asked, bewildered.

I can’t just leave like this! the manager thought desperately. The compensation package at MC Group is the best of any company! Besides, no matter where I go, as long as people know I’m from MC Group, they show me respect, even flatter me and treat me like an honored guest! But now, I’m being fired for no reason at all! I can’t accept this!
