Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 2126: A Missing Part

The clouds thundered, and lightning struck the islands hundreds of kilometers away from him.

”…”

Davis couldnʼt help but blink as he stared at the darkened skies. It was the same as ever, appearing similar to the normal skies of the Hundred Devil Thunder Archipelago.

ʼI did recondense my Supreme Immortal Fire Rune, right? Did I somehow fail…?ʼ

He rechecked his lower dantian and what he found was a smoldering ball of lightning and flames with the properties of extinction and immolation, exuding a heavenly aura that would cause all lives to shudder in trepidation. There was also the amalgamation of his laws, the triangular fire rune, and lightning rune, seething with heavenly flames and heavenly lightning as they thundered in his dantian.

Nothing seemed to have gone astray as he had successfully conjured the mutated Supreme Immortal Fire Rune upon comprehending Level Seven Abstruse Intent of Fire Laws in a seamless manner as though it was a smooth transition, and such an action shouldʼve incurred some heavy punishment from the heavens.

However, there were no tribulation clouds in the skies, causing Davisʼs brows to frown.

ʼDonʼt tell me that the Heavenly Wind Tribulation is unseen...ʼ

He couldnʼt help but move around slightly, knowing that the heavenly wind was almost invisible yet deadly. If it hit him again in a vital spot, Davis knew for sure that he wouldnʼt survive. After all, the heavenly windʼs slicing injury was unable to be healed by his life energy, and he wouldnʼt be able to use Fallen Heaven in a heavenly tribulation, leaving him with the option to face death.

As he moved around, he noticed the rampant changes in the sky that were general to the Hundred Devil Thunder Archipelago, wondering if the tribulation clouds of heavenly wind were hidden and indiscoverable. However, his expression suddenly froze as he felt his scalp turn numb.

Instantly, he turned around, his sapphire pupils reflecting the image of a humanoid figure veiled by a tremendous light.

Time seemed to stop for a moment as a flash of lightning that passed by in the distance froze, but at the same time, the flow of time resumed in his perspective, allowing the flash of lightning to disappear while he simultaneously reacted.

”What..!?”

Heavenly lightning and heavenly flames surged from Davisʼs body while he stared at the scenery in front of him, feeling spooked as the dread choked his heart. His expression went from a solemn calm to panic because he could no longer see that figure, nor could his soul sense that had already covered the space for countering heavenly wind manage to pick a hint of that humanoid figure.

Davis turned around and looked everywhere. However, he couldnʼt find the figure he saw just now.

ʼWait… who did I see just now…?ʼ

Amidst the loud beat of his heart, Davis held his head and used everything in his power to recall what he saw just now. However, he suddenly found that even the bits and pieces that he saw between that tremendous ray of light were disappearing from his memories.

ʼWhat… in the world…?ʼ

”Master, is anything wrong?”

Eldiaʼs voice sounded as she descended and appeared before him with a worried expression on her face, causing Davis to abruptly latch onto her shoulders with his palms.

”Eldia, did you see someone just now?”

”Someone?”

Eldia was startled. Although she could sense Davisʼs distress from their soul connection, she shook her head.

”No, I didnʼt see anyone.”

Davisʼs eyes squinted into two tiny slits before he shot a look at the Profound Tyrant Veined Cauldron.

”Tyriele, did you… you…”

Davis couldnʼt help but suddenly blink, his expression becoming confused, ”Did you… know what I was about to ask?”

”…”

Eldia and Tyriele couldnʼt help but be shocked and confused over Davisʼs strange actions. However, Tyriele only hesitated for a moment before it answered.

”Yes, master. You were about to ask if I saw someone.”

”Huh?”

Davis uttered a sound of bewilderment, not believing Tyrieleʼs words. He could still recall waking up from seclusion upon comprehending Level Seven Abstruse Intent of Fire Laws and waiting for the Heavenly Wind Tribulation to arrive as he expected but suddenly held onto Eldia for he was glad that the heavens no longer targeted him before turning around to ask Tyriele something he couldnʼt remember.

”That canʼt be...” He let go of Eldia and suspiciously shook his head.

”But master,” Eldia raised her two fists, seemingly solemn, ”You did ask me if I saw someone just now.”

Davisʼs brows narrowed, confusion written all over his face before he doubtfully asked, ”What did you answer?”

”I answered that I havenʼt seen that somebody.”

Davis lowered his head, ʼStrange. I donʼt recall hearing that from Eldia...ʼ

However, Eldia and Tyriele didnʼt seem to be lying as well, allowing him to understand something imperceptible was lurking in the air.

ʼIn other words, I saw someone just now but forgot it…?ʼ

Davis couldnʼt help but produce a dry smile, knowing that such a thing was almost impossible, especially for a soul cultivator of his level. However, his expression couldnʼt help but turn serious if it was true.

After all, that meant that this entity that he saw could actually be at the level of the laws which Myria claimed are gradually forgotten over time, just like the figure he had apparently seen and questioned Eldia.

He turned to look at Eldia, wanting to know more.

”And then, did I say what this someone looked like?”

”Someone? Who?”

Eldiaʼs expression became confused, ”What does master mean?”

”…”

Davis stared at Eldiaʼs bewildered expression, which also seemed to want to help him. He turned to look at Tyriele again. However, he simultaneously forgot what he wanted to ask at this moment, causing him to blink, feeling a sense of deja vu strike him heavily.

ʼDid I do this before…?ʼ

His expression turned solemn, but nothing suspicious came to his mind, no matter how he thought about this strange situation.

”Lad, whatʼs going on?”

Abruptly, Fallen Heavenʼs hoarse voice resounded, ”You were hollering at the spirit and the cauldron, asking them if they saw someone.”

”…!”

Davisʼs expression froze as he suddenly recalled asking Eldia and Tyriele about this matter but vaguely. As for what happened before that, he couldnʼt recall no matter how he tried that he couldnʼt help but ask.

”Fallen Heaven, did you see that person I supposedly saw?”

”I donʼt know. The moment you comprehended Level Seven Abstruse Intent of Fire Laws, I assumed the heavenly tribulation would descend as you did, so I hid, and by hiding myself, my vision towards the outside world almost becomes nil.”

”Then how do you come out without knowing that-”

”When the heavenly tribulation aura leaves, I know...”

”I see…”

Davis held his head, seemingly distraught over something he couldnʼt recognize, ”Remind me of this matter later.”

”Sure.”

The next moment, his expression returned to normal before it became blank, making him wonder what he was thinking about.

ʼAh, yes.ʼ Davis smacked his palm, ʼThe Heavenly Wind Tribulation… Perhaps, something like that doesnʼt exist...ʼ

He thought it was a pity as he couldnʼt collect some for Fiora and Zephya. Otherwise, their path to excellence wouldʼve been etched in stone with his help in taming heavenly things.

On the other hand, Eldia smiled, and Tyriele stayed still like a rock.

The group of three acted as though nothing strange happened, or perhaps, they really did believe nothing happened. However, inside Davisʼs soul sea, a hoarse yet indiscernible voice resounded.

”Although I didnʼt sense a heavenly tribulation, the dread I sensed still existed… It must be that person...”

Fallen Heavenʼs voice shuddered as it thought of the person who sealed it.

However, why now? Why show up now?

In the skies, the Calamity Light shone with a strange light when a malicious voice echoed.

”Curses… I canʼt see… who was it that summoned the Heavenly Wind Tribulation meant for those who aspire to become an Immortal King in this restricted place!?”

A strange eye lurked in the Calamity Light, apparently looking in the direction of the Hundred Devil Thunder Archipelago in a hurry.

”…!”

But at this moment, it saw the same tremendous ray of light as what Davis saw, causing that malicious voiceʼs owner scalp to turn numb as they hurriedly shut their eyes. However, it was already bleeding heavily!

”Peeking is a bad habit, donʼt you think?”

”No… I…”

*Bang!~*

The strange eye shattered, causing the Calamity Light to tremble as a terrified cry emerged before becoming silenced.

The Calamity Light still existed. However, no one heard anything that happened here, except for the remaining person, who possessed a cold yet complex look on their face.

”Is this the second time… no, the third…?”
