Urban Divine Doctor Descends the Mountain

Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Inheritance

”Chief Lin, hello, I am a reporter from the Lecture Hall of Traditional Chinese Medicine. May I interview you?”

”Chief Lin, who did you study under, and why have we never heard your name in the Traditional Chinese Medicine circles before?”

”Chief Lin, the Southern Faction of Traditional Chinese Medicine hasn’t elected a chief for nearly a hundred years. Why were you unanimously chosen?”

”...”

At the moment, a swarm of reporters was converging on Lin Dong.

They bombarded him with a series of questions.

And they were clicking away with their cameras.

The flashing lights were dazzling Lin Dong a bit.

Medicine King, Needle King, and the others were somewhat worried. After all, Lin Dong was young and facing such intense scrutiny under the lights. Were they wondering if he could handle it?

Would his responses be proper?

And would he get lost in the fame?

They had all witnessed Lin Dong’s medical skills, so they weren’t worried about that, but these were their concerns.

Indeed, Lin Dong was initially disoriented.

However, after a while, he adjusted.

He addressed the reporters:

”If all of you ask questions at once, it is difficult for me to respond. Let’s do it this way, each of you may ask me one question in turn. Mm, let’s start with you.”

Lin Dong pointed at a woman reporter in front of him and said.

She seemed to be a female reporter from the Lecture Hall of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The female reporter hurriedly said, ”Chief Lin, could you briefly introduce yourself?”

”Of course, my name is Lin Dong, from Jianghai.” He introduced himself succinctly.

”Chief Lin, how old are you this year? You don’t seem to be over thirty?” another reporter asked.

Lin Dong gave a smile and said, ”I just turned twenty.”

”Ah? Just twenty and you’ve already become the chief of the Southern Faction’s Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors!”

”Haha, there’s a popular saying online recently. It goes, ’A man over twenty should start to act maturely.’ Moreover, in my opinion, a person’s ability is not greatly related to their age.”

”Chief Lin, it’s said that you know the long-lost Taiyi Yin-yang Divine Needle of Chinese Medicine World. Who did you learn it from? Who is your master?”

”My master is a hermit who prefers not to be known.”

”Chief Lin, do you have a girlfriend?”

”This... can I decline to answer?”

”...”

Watching Lin Dong effectively field questions from the reporters, each answer was appropriately expressed.

Medicine King, Needle King, and the others smiled and stroked their beards in approval.

Their initial concerns had disappeared like smoke in thin air.

At this time, a previously silent male reporter posed a tricky question.

”May I ask Chief Lin, since you have been elected as the chief of the Southern Faction’s Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors, your medical skills must be very advanced, right? So, how do you compare your medical skills with Medicine King and Needle King?”

”If they are not as good, what is the reason for you being elected as the chief? Could there be some inside information?”

As soon as these words were uttered, everyone’s expressions changed slightly.

This question was loaded.

No matter how Lin Dong responded, it would be inappropriate.

At this point, Medicine King stepped forward and laughingly said:

”Let me answer that question.”

”Chief Lin’s medical skills are better than mine!”

”What?” At this, many people present were surprised.

”Medicine Elder Wang, are you saying this just to promote Chief Lin and build momentum for the Southern Faction of Traditional Chinese Medicine?”

”Chief Lin may indeed be highly talented in medicine, but as he said himself, he’s only twenty years old! How could he be better than you at such an age?”

Faced with the reporters’ questions, Medicine King said with a smile, ”Better is better, do I need to lie about it?”

Needle King also said, ”We are of an old age, how could we stake our reputations to build false hype? Besides, what benefit is there in doing that for us? Are we waiting to be found out and bring even greater disgrace to our Southern Faction?”

On hearing this, the reporters all nodded, finding it quite reasonable.

Still, some found it hard to believe that Lin Dong, so young, could have better medical skills than Needle King and Medicine King!

”I know you all think it’s impossible because Chief Lin is young, but let me say this, you can’t judge a person’s ability by age alone. Some people are just born geniuses! And Chief Lin is clearly such a genius,” said Medicine King loudly.

Needle King also said, ”Everyone, in not too long, the medical competition between the Northern and Southern factions of Chinese Medicine will begin. At that time, we welcome all of you to come and watch. Then you will know whether we have lied or not!”

Upon hearing this, the reporters all nodded their heads.

Yes, the true skill of this young chief of the Southern Faction’s Chinese Medicine will naturally be revealed at the medical competition between the Northern and Southern factions.

Seeing Medicine King and Needle King stepping in to help him out, Lin Dong felt a sigh of relief.

He did indeed find the previous question difficult to answer.

Of course, along with the relief, there was also a touch of emotion.

After all, if they didn’t truly recognize Lin Dong, if they didn’t believe he was the future of their Southern Faction’s Chinese Medicine, why would they risk their reputations to support him?

If Lin Dong made a mistake in the upcoming medical competition between the Northern and Southern factions and lost, their reputations would surely be tarnished.

Their trust made Lin Dong feel a deeper responsibility for his position as chief!

”All right, everyone, it’s getting late. Let’s end today’s interview here. I hope you all edit well and inform the whole of Dragon Country’s Traditional Chinese Medicine Circle that the Southern Faction of Chinese Medicine now has a chief. And his name is... Lin Dong!!!”

The Vice Chairman of the Chinese Medicine Association said with hands clasped.

The reporters nodded, but still one reporter hurriedly asked:

”Can I ask one last question?”

Noticing that it was the female reporter from the Lecture Hall of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Lin Dong nodded, ”Go ahead.”

She promptly asked, ”Chief Lin, as the future chief of the Southern Faction’s Traditional Chinese Medicine, what do you think is the most important aspect of Chinese Medicine?”

Lin Dong thought for a moment before responding, ”Inheritance!”

”Can Chinese Medicine cure sickness? Yes, it always has. But now, not to mention other countries, even many people in our own country believe it’s metaphysics, or even evil magic!”

”That’s because the true medical arts that can cure diseases have become rarer while quacks have become common, and many lines of inheritance have been broken. What we need to do is to make sure that the genuine medical arts that can cure diseases are passed on and further developed.”

”To let the whole world know that Chinese Medicine is not a form of evil magic, not metaphysics, but the essence of Dragon Country that can cure diseases!!”

Pop pop pop pop～～

As soon as he finished, applause erupted from the crowd.

Needle King, Medicine King, Fire Cupping King, and other Traditional Chinese Medicine predecessors teared up.

”Good, good, good! Now that we have such a leader, how can the Southern Faction not flourish!”
