Chapter 255: Chapter 255: I Think I’m in Love with You

Wang Xiuxin naturally noticed Lin Dong, and of course, he noticed Qiao Bing as well.

Hearing what Xu Ying said, Wang Xiuxin was somewhat curious and asked,

”Oh? Xiaoying, you know them too?”

”Not really, I just encountered that man in the parking lot, extremely rude. He broke the leg of the dog I was raising.” Xu Ying grumbled.

As she spoke, she continued in a coquettish tone to Wang Xiuxin:

”Brother Xiuxin, you know martial arts too, and you’re the fifth-ranked expert on the Tiger Rankings. Could you help me out and teach him a lesson?”

As soon as these words were spoken, Li Yanran hurriedly said, ”Brother Xiuxin, that man is not easy to deal with; I know him too. I think it’s best not to get physical if we can avoid it.”

Wang Xiuxin smiled upon hearing the two of them and said in a gentlemanly manner,

”We’re all civilized people here, all about rational discussion. There’s no need for all this fighting and killing.”

”Since we all know each other, let’s go over and say hello. After all, I know them too.”

Saying this, he had already risen, ready to head towards Lin Dong and Qiao Bing.

Li Yanran and Xu Ying were both surprised; they exchanged looks, both filled with curiosity.

How does Brother Xiuxin know them?

The three approached the table where Lin Dong and Qiao Bing sat.

Xu Ying saw Lin Dong eating a steak with chopsticks, and couldn’t help but snort coldly, ”Really living up to the lack of manners, can’t even eat a steak properly.”

Lin Dong was actually in a rather good mood since he had found out that he and Sister Bing had become the lucky customers of the day and were dining free of charge.

But unexpectedly, at this moment, a voice as annoying as a buzzing fly reached his ears.

Lin Dong instantly recognized the owner of the voice.

Because she had been constantly barking for her dog since they entered.

”Wow, who’s yapping like a dog over there?” Lin Dong turned his head and coldly sneered without any courtesy.

”You’re the one barking like a dog!” Xu Ying was furious, ”You country bumpkin, I’m talking about you using chopsticks to eat steak!”

Lin Dong rolled his eyes, ”Me eating steak with chopsticks is none of your business.”

”Who says you can’t use chopsticks to eat steak?”

”That’s why you’re a country bumpkin. Look around this restaurant; see if anyone else is eating steak with chopsticks.”

The two argued.

Li Yanran, however, noticed something unusual about Wang Xiuxin.

At this moment, Wang Xiuxin was continuously staring at Lin Dong’s female companion.

Then she heard Wang Xiuxin speak kindly, ”Long time no see, Qiao Bing!”

Wow!

At this statement, Xu Ying, who had been in a fierce argument with Lin Dong, also froze, before asking in surprise,

”Brother Xiuxin, you know this woman?”

Wang Xiuxin didn’t hide it from her and nodded, ”Xiaoying, didn’t I tell you before? Back in university, I briefly went public with a relationship.”

”That person is her!”

Hearing this, Xu Ying lost interest in arguing with Lin Dong.

She stood there, stunned.

As for Lin Dong, he too closed his mouth, turning his attention to Qiao Bing.

Qiao Bing looked at the man in front of her, Wang Xiuxin. Once, she tried to open the door to her heart for the first time with him, but ended in dismal failure.

Back then, she hated him intensely, and her sickness worsened because of it, leading to her extreme belief that there were no good men in the world.

Yet now, when she saw him again, she discovered an unprecedented serenity within herself.

Was it time that had worn down everything?

Or was it because of someone else?

At this moment, Qiao Bing realized that what she cared about most was not Wang Xiuxin’s reaction, not even her own, but another person.

She glanced sidelong at Lin Dong, and only then did she reply to Wang Xiuxin, saying,

”Yes, long time no see, Wang Xiuxin!”

When she uttered this ’long time no see’ with such calmness, she realized that she might never have truly liked this man called ’Wang Xiuxin.’

She was just someone who had suffered from androphobia since she was young and had tried to open her heart.

However, clearly, she had failed on her first attempt.

The price of failure also made her suffer the pain of her disease.

”How have you been over these years? Have you found a boyfriend?” Wang Xiuxin asked in his gentlemanly manner.

Qiao Bing shook her head.

”Neither have I,” Wang Xiuxin said, his face showing a gentle smile before he looked at the dining table, as if he were lost in memories.

”I remember when I confessed to you, I chose to have dinner at this chain Western restaurant as well. Though that was at the Capital City’s headquarters, the table numbers are the same, 321!”

”Even though one is in the Capital City and the other is in Southern Capital, it still feels very familiar and nostalgic.”

Wang Xiuxin’s face showed his signature smile, as if he were speaking about something utterly trivial.

But at the same time, he was observing Lin Dong’s reaction next to Qiao Bing.

At this moment, one could imagine the expression on Lin Dong’s face.

His face showed a bitter smile, he finally understood why, out of all the table numbers, Qiao Bing insisted on choosing table number 321.

He also understood why she insisted on eating at a Western restaurant, and why she insisted on this steak.

So what am I, exactly?

Did you drag me here to eat, to be reminiscent of your last relationship?

Lin Dong, who had always been composed, suddenly felt a pang of heartache at this moment, and of course, some anger as well.

So Qiao Bing, is this the ”surprise” you mentioned?

Seeing Lin Dong’s reaction, Wang Xiuxin came over, patted his shoulder, and laughingly said,

”Brother, back at the hospital entrance, you actually said that Qiao Bing is now your girlfriend and pregnant with your child. Now it seems, you were joking with me.”

”But that’s quite a big joke, I hope you won’t make such jokes in the future. It’s very damaging to a girl’s reputation.”

He looked so gentlemanly as he said that.

And listening to this, Xu Ying couldn’t help but sneer, ”What a blockhead, going around spreading rumors that a woman is carrying your child.”

”Disgusting.”

If this had happened just earlier, Lin Dong would definitely have argued with her.

But for some reason, he suddenly didn’t feel like it anymore.

He didn’t speak, simply standing there quietly.

”Alright, we won’t disturb you any longer. I’ll be in Southern Capital for a while, and we’ll have the chance to see each other again.”

Wang Xiuxin timely ended the conversation and immediately left the table with Xu Ying and Li Yanran.

After all, there would be plenty of time in the future, Qiao Bing, and this time Wang Xiuxin wouldn’t let you escape from my grasp like the first time.

After they left, there was a period of silence.

Then Qiao Bing softly said, ”Lin Dong, he sought you out before, and then you told him, I was your girlfriend?”

”I’m sorry, I started a rumor, affecting your reputation,” Lin Dong said coldly.

Qiao Bing was stunned, then quickly said, ”I don’t blame you.”

She could hear the coldness in Lin Dong’s tone and saw the indifference in his eyes.

The scariest thing in a relationship between two people isn’t when one is angry with the other, but when one becomes indifferent toward the other.

That kind of indifference seemed to sever the relationship between them, as if cutting off all their past memories.

Suddenly panic-stricken, Qiao Bing felt as though she was losing something extremely important, and the sensation was almost suffocating.

”So this is the surprise you had for me? To accompany you in remembering the past? Yes, I’ve always been a good listener for you. But I don’t want to be that kind of listener anymore...”

”No, it’s not like that...” hearing Lin Dong’s cold words, seeing his indifferent eyes, Qiao Bing felt as if her heart was being pricked.

Her liver started to ache, but she tried her best to endure it, she wanted to explain.

”You’re not just a listener to me, you’re also my...”

”What? A friend? Hah, it’s the easiest word to assign. Maybe after one meal, you become friends, maybe after one chat, you become friends. But at the same time, it’s also the easiest to take back...”

Lin Dong spoke coldly, but at that moment, his phone started to ring.

It was Ye Linglong on the other end, reminding him that he could go to the evening banquet early.

So Lin Dong said, ”Alright, I have something tonight. I’ll have to take my leave first, thanks for the steak.”

”Oh yes, this Western restaurant, it’s the place where he first confessed to you, and it’s also where I tasted steak for the first time in my life.”

As he spoke, he left with a wry smile on his face.

Watching Lin Dong’s retreating back, Qiao Bing wanted to say something, but although she opened her mouth wide, no sound came out.

It wasn’t until Lin Dong was completely gone did she realize, tears had covered her entire face at some point.

She sat in a daze, whispering softly,

”Lin Dong, it’s not like this. It’s not like that...”

”Do you know, I asked you here today, not to reminisce about so-called past, but to completely let go.”

”And this letting go is not for the sake of so-called feelings, because I never had feelings for him, it was after meeting you that I realized, I’ve never liked him from the start to the end.”

”My letting go is about my first attempt to open up my heart and failing, that failure led me to an extreme idea, that I would never fall in love with someone for the rest of my life...”

”But I was wrong.”

”Lin Dong, do you know? I’ve become very strange lately,”

”When I don’t see you, my mind can’t help thinking about you, when I think of you, my heart is at ease, and I can’t help smiling foolishly.”

”When I haven’t seen you, I look forward to the next time we meet. And once I see you, happiness comes over me instinctively.”

”When you give me acupuncture treatments, I instinctively feel shy, with blushing ears and face. Sometimes, when we get too close, my heartbeat also speeds up on its own...”

”Lin Dong, I think... I’ve fallen in love with you!!!”

”What you said earlier, about me dragging you along to dwell on the past, I said no, I asked you here today, not for you to listen to my past stories, but for us to end the past together. Because today... I wanted to confess to you!!!”

”I want to tell you, you’re not just any listener to me, nor just a friend, but my... life’s long love!!!”

She covered her face, crying hard, with tears covering her cheeks.
