Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 594: Literary Association and Language Barrier

”What? You mean just now, an academy visitor claiming to be Yang Yuehan has arrived in Ninglan New City?”

Located in the City Defense Army camp beneath the old site of the city wall, Mo Le stood up immediately upon hearing the intelligence brought by this City Defense Army soldier.

Even though several months had passed, Mo Le naturally still remembered that girl named Yang Yuehan.

It was also that time when Ninglan New City welcomed its greatest catastrophe, and ultimately, after surviving that catastrophe, Ninglan New City began to radiate new vitality.

From that Nightmare Demon incident until now, they have come into contact with too many new things, constantly stimulating their nerves and letting them understand more truths.

They were not the only surviving humans in this world, but they were the last glimmer of civilization holding fast on the Expansion Realm.

And they also witnessed just how terrifying the aid from the ”Witch Academy” was.

The expansion of Ninglan New City, the containment of the monthly energy tides, the exploration becoming possible outside the city, and even...

So he naturally knew about the official opening of Ninglan New City to the Witch Academy.

Not long ago, after experiencing a great change in the world and earth-shaking changes occurring outside the city, they truly witnessed the mighty power of the Transcendent Witches.

But after the whole matter subsided, the mentors of the Witch Academy would not interfere too much in their affairs.

In the following period, the Witch Academy promised to send more personnel to Ninglan New City to help them solve the matters outside the city together.

After that great change in the world, scenes they had never seen before appeared outside the city.

Humans fleeing like refugees rushed madly towards Ninglan New City.

Their language was unintelligible, their clothing dissimilar.

He only learned from the Acting City Lord that these people were ordinary people who ”transmigrated” along with another world.

No matter how absurd such a statement was, or how incomprehensible the content, the fact had already happened here.

In the past day or two, five or six visitors from the Witch Academy have successively come through that teleportation channel.

According to City Lord Qiuyue, the people who arrived in Ninglan New City first were the teaching assistants of the Witch Academy, existences above students and second only to mentors.

Some time later, after the first batch of student applications are approved, large numbers of students will arrive in Ninglan New City.

Regarding the few teaching assistants who arrived earlier, Mo Le, as the highest officer of the City Defense Army, naturally went to meet them, but it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing.

Several even hit a wall.

From the few who were approachable, they were very interested in intelligence outside the city.

After settling into their accommodations, they basically lost contact with Ninglan New City.

Perhaps this is the so-called leaving the city to go to the outside world to solve those troubles.

The troubles of the world outside the city have exceeded the bearing capacity of Ninglan New City.

They can only selectively accept some people from outside into the city, building refugee camps and temporary shelters for those people in the planned area of the old city wall’s Strategic Buffer Zone ruins.

They even need to restrict their movements and be responsible for food relief.

Ninglan New City naturally cannot allow these guys to wander blindly inside the city.

With good and bad mixed together and language barriers, there is naturally no need for unnecessary trouble.

And now, a girl they know has come to Ninglan New City.

Although not very familiar, that Scholar Xiao Han should at least value their previous friendship and be easier to communicate with than the previous few.

After learning some other details from this City Defense Army soldier, Mo Le directly handed over affairs temporarily to his adjutant, and then he personally left here with his guards and this City Defense Army soldier.

...

At this moment, after leaving the hotel where I was temporarily staying, I began to stroll around the city according to my plan.

Although I have gained some understanding of the construction of the new Ninglan New City through the Earth Vein Appraisal Spell, there are still many places I want to go and see.

For example... how has the Extraordinary Research Association developed now?

Is the underground city district open to the public yet?

And those former scholars, after such a long time, having received my enlightenment on runes and those Transcendent teaching materials brought back by Ninglan Qiuyue, what step have they reached now?

I am very curious about all these.

As for the resource grabbing outside Ninglan New City... I am not in a hurry.

That is an entire small world merged into the Expansion Realm, such a vast land sufficient to be called a world; no one can claim it belongs to themselves with just one sentence.

It belongs to the Witch Academy.

The academy only gave everyone the right to ”explore,” ”mine,” and ”search.”

What you get, find, and mine into your bag can belong to you, but the Expansion Realm, resource points, Transcendent mining areas, etc., do not belong to you.

So before that, I intend to understand this Ninglan New City properly.

After all, it is a place I have visited before.

And the first place I came to was the Extraordinary Research Association I was most familiar with.

Back then, that guy named Wu Mali took over the Extraordinary Research Association from the older generation.

At that time, he was still a guy who didn’t know much, managing the Extraordinary Research Association somewhat... poorly?

But this should not have much to do with me anymore.

However, now, the Extraordinary Research Association here seems to have become larger than when I came last time.

I estimate that extraordinary-related techniques should also be spreading very quickly in Ninglan New City.

Although this association is not that kind of professional Extraordinary Research Base, and its interior also carries many amateur members, somehow this is also an interest organization for extraordinary techniques facing the public within Ninglan New City, isn’t it?

However, after I arrived here, I discovered that there seemed to be quite a few people inside the association.

”Hello, welcome to the Extraordinary Research Association. This young lady looks unfamiliar, is it your first time here?”

”Shouldn’t count as the first time...”

I looked at the receptionist who came forward and gave an ambiguous answer, ”I’m curious to ask, why are there so many people in the association today?”

”Oh, are you referring to these people? A part of these people are from the Literary Association.”

”Literary Association? Ninglan New City also has such an association?”

I became somewhat interested.

”Of course. Although the Literary Association is not famous in Ninglan New City, somehow it also bears the important responsibility of cultural dissemination in Ninglan New City. What’s more, our Ninglan New City is about to open up and integrate with the Witch Academy. The cultural heritage unique to Ninglan New City will naturally be the first to be displayed...”

”Oh...”

I nodded, somewhat interested.

I wonder what touching works those literati who constantly lived under such a harsh world have created?

If there is a chance, I can go take a look.

”Then why did these people suddenly run to the Extraordinary Research Association?”

I continued to ask.

”This... because the decline of the Literary Association resulted in them not having a specialized headquarters similar to the Extraordinary Research Association...”

”So they are more of a formal association?”

”More or less. However, I heard that the planned area within Ninglan New City has already reserved their association headquarters for the Literary Association, and they came over this time for other reasons.”

”What reasons?”

I continued to ask.

I sighed somewhat at the miserable status quo of this Literary Association.

Culture... literature, these are things carrying a spiritual civilization and development, yet they don’t even have their own headquarters?

If they have association gatherings, they wouldn’t take turns holding them in someone’s home, would they...

”Recently, because a large number of refugees have poured in from outside the city, they speak a language unintelligible to us. In order to facilitate communication, we have to conduct mutual translation of languages with the other party, and this task was actively taken on by the people of the Literary Association.”

”Oh, translation.”

I nodded.

People who love literature would probably also yearn to exchange different insights with people of different civilizations, right?

And translation can also understand the language evolution and development, thinking and cognition, etc., of a civilization.

After all, in that small world, I also learned many mainstream languages during that time period.

”Yes, not just translation. Our Ninglan New City side is also trying to teach them about our language. If language communication can be achieved, this will help us better manage those refugees outside the city.”

”Is that so? You know quite a lot.”

I exclaimed.

After all, Ninglan New City really isn’t considered very big.

Many functions will be streamlined and overlapping.

For the convenience of management, even the receptionist of the Extraordinary Association here knows so many things.

”This is natural. May I ask if you have any business to attend to in the association?”

”I’m just strolling around casually to broaden my horizons. By the way, is it convenient to introduce me to those few from the Literary Association? I still have some insights regarding language and translation.”

”Really? If you have your own insights on translation, I believe they will very much welcome your joining...”

After this introduction, and under my emphasis, I successfully met the honorary president of the Literary Association.

This was an elderly man.

Extraordinary Research provided him with a dedicated office, and at this moment, he was still studying the comparison materials in front of him.

”Hm? May I ask what business you have with me?”

Seeing the office door open, he adjusted his reading glasses and looked up at me.

Seeing it was the association’s receptionist bringing another... white-haired girl, he couldn’t help but ask curiously.

”Mr. Shen, this young girl said she has some interest in translation, so...”

”Little girl... if you are just interested, it would be better to communicate with those young people outside. We are currently shouldering the heavy responsibility of translating those languages and texts, and I’m afraid we don’t have time to satisfy your hobby.”

The old man addressed as Mr. Shen said.

There wasn’t much arrogance in his speech, just a trace of powerlessness in his tone.

After all, within the literary system of Ninglan New City, there hasn’t been a collision of different languages.

Translation, this field, is also their first contact with it, so many aspects are not satisfactory.

This is exactly where his headache lies at this moment.

Later, he will have to personally contact those refugees outside the city.

Otherwise, just staring at these organized materials won’t produce anything.

Originally, he thought that the Extraordinary Association here could decipher those extraordinary inscriptions left by history, as well as those runes, which might help with translation, but eventually found that the help wasn’t significant.

However, the many vacant places provided them with temporary venues.

”Mr. Shen, perhaps seeing my appearance, you will preconceivedly think that I am here to disturb your time, but I think you should have misunderstood.”

I walked directly forward, my gaze sweeping over the slightly messy desktop in front of him.

”Take the example sentence in front of you as an example. You are trying to translate the sentence ’The sun rises from the east and sets in the west.’ You first identified the keyword ’sun,’ thereby determining the imagery of rising and setting.”

”Subsequently, based on the sentence structure, you chose the directional words for east and west. Although this learning method is basic, it is an important step in understanding language structure and vocabulary meaning.”

”Currently, you may not have received systematic translation training without reference, but through this method, you can gradually build up an intuitive understanding of the language.”

”In the process of translation, this sensitivity to keywords and grasp of sentence structure are quite important. If given a little more time to contact those people, I think your translation skills can still be improved, but that takes time.”

After listening to what I said, Shen Tule, this old man over half a hundred years old, stood up directly.

”You know quite a lot...”

He wanted to say something else, but I interrupted him eventually.

”Let me introduce myself. I am a teaching assistant from the Witch Academy who came over after the recent opening of Ninglan New City and the Witch Academy. My name is Yang Yuehan. Passing by here by chance, seeing that you seem to have no clue, I came to take a look.”

When I finished speaking, the expressions of Shen Tule and the receptionist lady beside me immediately became colorful, especially that receptionist lady.

”So... so you are a teacher from the Witch Academy? I am truly sorry, I was too rude just now.”

Shen Tule apologized hurriedly.

After all, he had heard of the Witch Academy’s reputation!

That supreme mighty power and powerful witches made them have endless reveries about such an academy.

”It’s fine. I also had a slight understanding of your situation just now; this is nothing.”

”Um... you are Miss Yang Yuehan? That Scholar Xiao Han? I... I will go call our president right now...”

The receptionist lady on the side asked excitedly.

”Suit yourself.”

I shrugged, not minding.

Since I have decided to help them complete the translation, naturally it’s more convenient with someone cooperating.

What’s more, I am just helping out in passing.

After seeing this receptionist leave, Mr. Shen Tule no longer had the previous prejudice, and even began to humbly ask me for advice.

”My coming here this time can be considered a coincidence. I am only interested in language translation. To be honest, I have actually been in contact with those refugees outside the city, but that was before they descended here to you.”

The information content of my words was slightly large, and this old man also thought for quite a while before reacting.

”So Scholar Xiao Han, you understand the language of that civilization?”

”Correct. Previously, I spent some effort mastering several mainstream languages of that civilization. I hope it can be of some help to the communication between you and them.”

”Really!”

Hearing such a result, Shen Tule couldn’t help but widen his eyes.

He also didn’t expect that the translation problem troubling them would be directly solved just because of the arrival of a teaching assistant!

”Un. I remember the Witch Academy also accepted a student. That student used to be a person of this civilization, and she also knows the language of this civilization. I don’t know if she can come over, but the probability is not high. However, I have plenty of time. If your learning ability is not bad, I should be able to help you master one of the mainstream languages and scripts regarding that civilization. At least it should allow you to possess the ability to communicate with them.”

And just as I was conversing with Mr. Shen Tule, the office door was quickly pushed open again.

I turned sideways to look at the comer.

It was exactly a guy I still had some impression of, Wu Mali.

”Yo, Wu Mali, haven’t seen you for a while. Still recognize me?”

”You... you really are Teacher Xiao Han!”

Wu Mali immediately widened his eyes upon seeing me.

Even without much explanation from me, he still believed it.

”Oh... confirmed just like that?”

I raised my eyebrows, somewhat surprised.

”This, of course. I heard Little... City Lord Qiuyue mention you. She said your current appearance has completely changed from before, with a head of white hair and red pupils. These characteristics, I think besides Teacher Xiao Han, no one else would impersonate.”

Wu Mali said excitedly.

”So that’s how it is.”

I nodded.

Back then, this Wu Mali had some friendship with Ninglan Qiuyue.

Now looking at it, this friendship has not been severed, even if Ninglan Qiuyue has become the City Lord high above.

”Since it’s like this, then it’s simple. My coming here this time is also a coincidence. Since fate is so, I can spend some time helping you solve some difficult problems related to translation. Hmm... I don’t quite like trouble. Heard that Ninglan New City has connected to the Witch Academy’s Academy Network. Is there relevant equipment here?”

After all, regarding the knowledge of those languages, if I really have to teach them, who knows how long it will take.

Might as well directly complete the integration of information and knowledge through the Great Tree of Knowledge and the interfacing Academy Network, and then let them learn slowly.

After all, I have already pointed out a path for them; it’s impossible to let them rely on me for everything.
