Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 286: The Effects Focused on by Lesser Spellbooks

“Little Han, what exactly is your relationship with the Academy Head?”

Teacher Ji Niang, who accompanied me out of the Academy Head’s office, finally asked me.

During this entire trip, Ji Niang never imagined that things would develop this way.

A powerful Transcendent Witch, holding the position of Academy Head, would actually talk about these things with a student!

Not to mention the Grand Spellbook, she even brought up primal spell sequences and new life forms.

These were simply not things a student should be hearing.

Even for the research-oriented scholar witches at the Witch Academy, these topics were still in the research stage.

The Academy Head’s success this time had those witches celebrating as if it were a festival, and they were still celebrating now.

Were there many research-oriented Transcendent Witches in the Witch Academy?

Yes, and a great many of them.

The number of Transcendent Witches in the Witch Academy was far greater than it seemed, they just didn’t show their faces.

They merely held the identity of a teacher at the Main World’s Witch Academy, qualified to stay here, with no other needs.

Some of them were dedicated to Grand Spellbooks.

As long as a witch with [Transcendent Knowledge] called out, a large number of Transcendent Witches would come to help.

And some were cultivating new life forms to obtain the primal spell sequences of new life.

These were all popular research topics, and there were many others, including niche ones.

There were even many cases in the Witch’s Secret Realm, like the Academy Head’s, where research was laid out within the secret realm, just not conspicuously.

One only had to search for tasks related to the Witch’s Secret Realm on the Academy System to find a large number of research-related tasks.

Some witches would even go to other transcendent academies for exchanges and cooperation.

The grievances between academies would not interfere with the cooperation between scholars.

If it did, then the academy could just wait for a new batch of people to take over.

Such clueless people were not qualified to be the public face of a transcendent academy.

The transcendent academies set up in the Main World were essentially for those scholars to conduct research in the special world of the Main World, and the concept of the academy was attached to it.

Because they discovered the blessing bestowed upon the people of the Main World by the world consciousness, Spirit Vision, incorporating the people of the Main World into their own race also became a form of competition between different races.

In the Main World, there was naturally no shortage of competition and strife, but those who took action were never transcendent-level powerhouses, only students.

This had already become a kind of unwritten rule.

“The relationship between an ordinary student and the Academy Head… I guess.”

I shrugged and said.

Whether Teacher Ji Niang believed it or not, I was telling the truth.

“Alright, if you don’t want to say it, then don’t. I didn’t expect the Academy Head to be so concerned about you.”

After seeing me out, Ji Niang directly left me outside, and she herself teleported away.

Looking at such a convenient method, I was also very envious.

Unfortunately, I only had a teleportation summoning spell right now, which could teleport others, but not myself.

I looked at the time.

I had spent a lot of time at the Academy Head’s place.

The alchemy course hadn’t ended yet, so it seemed I could go and take another look, after all, I had paid for it.

After I returned, the teacher glared at me.

After seemingly confirming that I was the one who had run off halfway through, she ignored me.

It seems paying in advance is really useful.

“Little Han, why are you back?”

Bai Yu was also a bit surprised at this moment.

She thought she would have to spend the rest of the class alone.

“I came back after I finished my business. By the way, where is the teacher at?”

“These are the notes I took, you can take a look.”

Big Sis Bai directly handed me her notes for me to see.

I took them directly and recorded all the content I hadn’t heard on my Memory Bookshelf spellbook.

The function of this kind of spellbook was convenience, but at the same time, in the Fool’s Dream secret realm, reality also taught me a lesson, which was that a spell is ultimately a spell.

At least until I completely master the spellbook, the knowledge recorded in the spellbook did not belong to me.

Before long, the class was over.

This was a class about the basic operations of alchemy.

The basics were really important, including but not limited to many standard actions of alchemy operations, as well as the mental strength techniques or supporting spells needed.

Much of the knowledge and techniques were not in the books.

Many things, even small habits casually mentioned by the teacher, were experiences formed after countless times.

That’s right, alchemy was such a complex existence, or rather, alchemy was a way of using transcendent power in another way, similar to how witches use spells and warriors use physical arts.

It’s just that the focus is different.

There were many branches in alchemy, such as potion alchemy for refining potions, energy transmutation alchemy similar to a mage’s spellcasting, biological alchemy similar to the beast taming school, and mechanical alchemy of the mechanical school.

The teacher who taught alchemy even arrogantly said that any technique and application of transcendent energy could be integrated into alchemy.

Although this statement was a bit exaggerated, alchemy could indeed achieve most of the effects.

Of course, at my current stage, I didn’t need to have too much contact with those branches of alchemy, because the early practice of alchemy was actually about the same.

The basics needed to be universal, and then it would be differentiated and developed according to one’s own situation.

After all, not everyone who learned alchemy was an all-rounder.

But every apprentice who had just come into contact with alchemy felt that they were an all-rounder, but reality would quickly slap their face.

After class, Big Sis Bai accompanied me to eat at the cafeteria in the teaching area.

In the afternoon, I planned to go and browse the academy’s market.

Mainly, I still wanted to buy lesser spellbooks, with the goal of those lesser spellbooks used in alchemy.

If I encountered any that looked good, I would also buy them.

Existences like spellbooks were scarce in the Witch Academy.

The more advanced the spellbook, the rarer it was.

After all, there was no large-scale ”supply channel” for this stuff.

It was either one’s own accumulated possessions, or it was sold on consignment by others here, or spellbook recycling and so on.

So the price was still negotiable.

After all, the value of a spell’s effect was also very subjective.

Some effects were very particular in special situations, while others would only be considered very useless by others.

While browsing the market, I finally got to see how wild the effects of lesser spellbooks could be.

As expected of lesser spellbooks that had no systematic ritual inside, only a structure.

However, I hadn’t come into contact with many lesser spellbooks.

I saw traces of rune rituals inside many lesser spellbooks, but they were still classified as lesser spellbooks.

It seems that the definition of lesser spellbooks within the academy has had quite a few discrepancies.

According to the senior students I asked who were selling them on consignment, I found out that the basic spellbook Cleaning Spell, which I had always thought was a basic spellbook, was also... a lesser spellbook, even though it had a ritual inside.

It seems they couldn’t see through the spellbooks, so their definition of spellbooks was a bit too rough...

“This… the effect of this lesser spellbook is a bit interesting…”

I looked at the handwritten paper describing the effect of the lesser spellbook, and this action was also seen by the senior student who was selling it.

“First-year, are you interested in this lesser spellbook? The casting target of this spellbook is a pen, which directly frees your hands. You don’t have to get your hands sore from taking notes in class, and it looks very cool to use. You will definitely become the most eye-catching person in the class.”

This senior student enthusiastically promoted it to me.

I wonder if this method, combined with the problem of my Memory Bookshelf requiring me to write it by hand, would have produced new possibilities?

Although this lesser spellbook felt like it appeared a little late, I still prepared to buy it.

After all, even with the Memory Bookshelf spellbook, it didn’t mean that I wouldn’t use a pen to write something in the future.

And this lesser spellbook wasn’t very expensive.

It didn’t even require transcendent materials to buy, just money.

Yes, money from the outside world.

Sure enough, this was the normal price level of the Witch Academy.

Money would never be eliminated as long as the society outside was still functioning normally.

“Mm, can it be a little cheaper? If it’s cheaper, I’ll buy it. After all, this can only help with taking notes and so on. It’s not worth several thousand, right?”

“Aiya This is a spell. Don’t just measure it by its effect. Its own value is the main part.”

“It’s still not worth it. The world of lesser spellbooks is now dominated by pragmatism. If the effect is average, it’s really not worth that much. Can’t you lower it a little?”

“Lower… lower it… you name a price…”

In the end, this senior student endured the pain and sold it to me at a low price.

Although she looked pained, since she agreed in one go, it meant she was still making a profit.

I gained quite a few lesser spellbooks along the way.

The effects and prices of these spellbooks were also worlds apart.

Some could be bought with money, while others even required Red Copper to purchase.

“How about it? It seems you’ve had a pretty good harvest.”

Bai Yu, who was at the side, watched as I fiddled with these lesser spellbooks and asked.

“Indeed. Compared to ordinary spellbooks, lesser spellbooks seem to focus more on effects, and their functions have even been completely let loose.”

“That’s true. After all, the power of a lesser spellbook is no match for even the weakest basic consumption spellbook. Instead of pursuing this direct damage, it’s more practical to focus on effects.”

“Mm… but I still want to exclaim how amazing it is. I want to buy every lesser spellbook I see, but it also feels like I won’t be able to use them.”

I carefully observed the lesser spellbook.

It gave me the illusion that I could do it too.

But even a lesser spellbook was still a spellbook, and the threshold for creating it was to master the True Editing technique.

However, since so many lesser spellbooks were for the service of students, and only those Transcendent Witch teachers could create spellbooks, this also meant that there was a creation channel provided by students.

At least in terms of inspiration for the effects of lesser spellbooks, there must have been a collection of students’ opinions.

I asked Big Sis Bai about this and only then did I understand that the academy really had such special clubs.

Some clubs cooperated with some teachers who had nothing better to do to create these lesser spellbooks, while other clubs were even more amazing, they could create their own spellbooks based on the blank spellbooks provided by teachers.

After hearing that there was such a club, my eyes immediately widened.

Perhaps Big Sis Bai didn’t know about the True Editing technique, or what this skill represented, but the group of senior students who customized lesser spellbooks must be geniuses!

They were only one step away from creating a real spellbook: advancing to Transcendent and mastering True Editing.

I didn’t expect that the form of modding spellbooks already had a precedent in the Witch Academy.

It’s just that they were targeting lesser spellbooks, while I started with the Fireball spell.

Perhaps it was the difference in Spirit Vision.

But setting aside the advantage of Spirit Vision, the experience and knowledge accumulated by the other party were definitely far superior to mine.

So… I still can’t underestimate those senior students, right…

And the so-called blank spellbooks were probably not just really blank.

I estimate that the teachers also wanted to save time and effort, so they prepared the necessary prerequisites and then let them fiddle with it themselves.

Of course, it could also be that they saw their extremely strong attainments in spellbooks and let them get used to the feeling of creating spellbooks in advance.

Thinking of this, I remembered the perspective of True Editing that the Academy Head had bestowed upon me in the Grand Spellbook before.

Was that True Editing?

It seems that all of this is still a long and arduous journey.

A few more days passed.

These days, I was still the same, as if I had returned to a normal academy life, without any influence.

But the expenses were also huge, not just for the alchemy courses, but also for the runology courses.

The thresholds for these courses were quite expensive.

And here I thought that after receiving the academy’s resource tilt and so much Arcanite Gold, I was already a rich woman, but the academy told me that I was still a poor ghost.

But I still had to take these courses, but I wouldn’t just take them casually.

I would definitely self-study some of them that could be self-studied, and then ask the teacher about what I didn’t understand.

This way of learning was, at least for me, the best and most efficient.

I had also learned a lot these days.

Until the Academy Head sent me a private message, I knew that things about the Fool’s Dream were now starting.

I recalled the Academy Head’s previous description of the script, which was acting.

Originally, Teacher Ji Niang had also told me that with the destiny I currently possessed, I could play with it however I wanted.

As long as I had destiny as a bargaining chip, I could hold any competition in my name, and those candidate Children of Destiny would be attracted to it.

But now, plans couldn’t keep up with changes.

The destiny I possessed actually needed to be given to this thing called the Nightmare.

But it didn’t matter.

The Academy Head said that she had already arranged it, to transfer the destiny to the Nightmare, and the Nightmare would be the next event node in the script.

The nature was actually the same as the exchange competition.

“She wants me to go to the dream device… it seems it’s time to make a move.”

I looked at the message the Academy Head had sent me on my phone and knew it was time to move.

After all, Teacher Ji Niang was right about one thing.

Destiny belonged to me, and others couldn’t just take it away, so it required some operation to be transferred.

“Huh? Time to do what?”

Bai Yu also asked at this moment.

Big Sis Bai had been with me all these days, and she also knew that I had many secrets, but she would not force me to tell them.

“It’s about the Fool’s Dream. I might have to borrow… oh, there’s a dream device in the laboratory that Teacher Ji Niang got for me. It should be the same.”

“Dream… mm, do you want me to accompany you?”

“I’m not sure… it’s something related to the Academy Head. I might not be able to bring you along. But it’s okay, it’s just some small things.”

“Alright then.”

Bai Yu didn’t ask any further.

Since it was something related to the Academy Head, it would be rude for her to forcefully get involved.

Anyway, she was very satisfied to be with Little Han these days.

Although she wanted to continue like this, she knew it was impossible.

“Then I wish you success.”

“Don’t worry.”

I nodded and replied with a smile.

Now I understand that when a person really wants to accomplish something, more people will provide help.

Just like how I now want to bestow true life upon the Fool’s Dream.

Even if this idea is very distant, all of this has already begun.

This is not just my trial mission alone.

The Academy Head also hopes for my success, even a phased progress is a big step forward.

The layout is guided by the Academy Head, the help is driven by the script, and the ideas are realized by other Transcendent Witches.

The matter of the Academy Head completing the Grand Spellbook has never subsided, it’s just that it’s not apparent at the student level.

And among the Transcendent Witches, this topic has never stopped, so I, who was at the center of the vortex of this incident, once again walked into the field of vision of those Transcendent Witches.

Some of them, out of admiration for the Academy Head, asked me about the Grand Spellbook.

Some directly wanted to poach me, but were driven away by Teacher Ji Niang.

Of course, there were also teachers who came because of my reputation.

Some of them who were idle just came to take a look, then pinched my cheek and left.

It could be said that I still didn’t quite understand the world of Transcendent Witches.

Of course, what I cared about more was the placement of the Fool’s Dream after they obtained their bodies.

But now it seems that the problem has been solved.

Among the Transcendent Witches, that is, the mentors, who came to find me, one of them had an identity that surprised me very much.

That was the one who had given me the Gold Cat Card at the very beginning!

It was only at this time that I understood that the one behind the Witch Cat Cafe was actually a Transcendent Witch!

I had always thought it was opened by some graduated senior student at the Witch Academy.

I didn’t expect it to be the work of a Transcendent Witch.

I didn’t communicate much with that Transcendent Witch, but it was obvious that she could help me with the placement of the Fool’s Dream.

The prerequisite was that the body of the Fool’s Dream had to have at least the appearance characteristics of a cat, which coincided with my idea.

When I asked the other party why she came to find me, she only said that the Academy Head had mentioned it to her… alright, this was also the Academy Head’s arrangement.

I was originally worried about how to get in touch with someone who could make decisions or cooperate with the Witch Cat Cafe, and now they had come to my door directly.
