Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 259: Modifying the Memory Bookshelf, Seeing is Learning

Before going to sleep, I planned to use one Earth Vein Memory first.

After all, using an Earth Vein Memory would cause a certain degree of mental stress, so I planned to use just one tonight.

Among the three Earth Vein Memories, two contained vast amounts of technical information.

I didn’t plan to use them now, but rather wait until tomorrow, after Teacher Ji Niang and I finished modifying and extending the Memory Bookshelf spellbook.

After all, the memories from an Earth Vein Memory weren’t completely memorized in the brain; it was easy to forget parts of the content.

So I planned to record it in the Memory Bookshelf.

Only a modified Memory Bookshelf could keep up with the speed of recording consciousness.

And tonight’s memory was this one about combat skills.

When I used it, that memory was like a tide, and I was like an outsider, completely watching and experiencing this kind of battle.

Although the perspective of the Earth Vein Memory was a bit awkward, what I saw was very clear.

The memories contained within were somewhat beyond my expectations, more complex than just looking with Spirit Vision.

It wasn’t just battles between spellcasters, competitions of spellcasting skills, duels between transformation spells, suppression between summoning spells, and the game between spellcasters and physical arts users.

Although I was surprised by the richness of the content in this Earth Vein Memory, many scenes flashed by.

If someone didn’t master the learning techniques, they might only remember the cool moves and have no other insights afterwards.

And I was only slightly better than that.

I could remember more things, or rather, understand the reasoning behind their actions.

If you can’t see why something is done in a battle, then blindly imitating it is meaningless.

The vast and miscellaneous memories were thus consumed bit by bit in my mind.

Only the most impressive memories could remain.

This was why the Earth Vein Memory had become a common reward for past newcomers.

It seemed wonderful, but the actual benefits one could obtain after using it were limited.

And this was only after my own screening.

One can only imagine how mottled and obscure the content of the memories I discarded was.

However, I had to say that the collision of external memories would also hone the strength of one’s mental power to a certain extent, but this couldn’t be compared to Meditation, which was why I found it tasteless.

After a night, perhaps my dreams were influenced by the external memories.

I had nightmares all night.

In the dream, I was being chased and beaten.

I became the enemy of the entire Witch Academy, chased by all the seniors.

Fortunately, Big Sis Bai led me away…

I was scared awake early in the morning.

After comforting myself a little and my spirit calmed down, I was relieved.

Dreams and reality are opposites.

Maybe it was me chasing the seniors of the Witch Academy, and holding Big Sis Bai while hunting them down?

That was truly absurd.

I checked the time.

After a simple wash-up, I began my meditation according to my plan.

Teacher Ji Niang had reminded me of the importance of meditation before, so I started to spend more time on meditation than before.

After finishing my meditation, I came to the laboratory.

“Er… Teacher Ji Niang?”

I was a bit surprised.

Teacher Ji Niang had arrived so early, or did she not go back last night?

“You’re here? Just in time. I’ve organized the materials. I can help you finish the spellbook today, and then you can get the hell out of here,” Teacher Ji Niang said, putting down the printed documents in her hand.

“Eh? Teacher Ji Niang, you didn’t sleep all night?”

“Is there a problem? A Transcendent Witch has very little need for sleep. When researching, I can go for several months without sleeping, because you never know if your inspiration will disappear after a nap. You’ll get used to it in the future.”

“Er… really?”

“Of course. You already have so many Magic Power Sources, the Witchification should be somewhat obvious…”

At this point, Ji Niang subconsciously glanced at my already developing chest, then averted her gaze.

After all, she was her own student, Ji Niang wouldn’t go that far, not to mention the other party wasn’t even a Transcendent Witch yet.

“You should have also felt that you sleep less than before, right?”

“Er… actually, it seems like there’s no change? My life is still very regular…”

I grumbled slightly.

“That’s just habit becoming second nature. Maybe you underestimate your ability to stay up late. Let’s not talk about this. Let’s work hard today. If nothing unexpected happens, and if you can be a little faster, we can finish things this morning.”

As Teacher Ji Niang spoke, she handed me the printed materials, while she held a thicker stack herself.

After all, she had spent a whole night organizing them.

There was no nonsense inside, only solid content.

Moreover, the content already involved ritual runes.

There were two aspects related to ritual runes within a spellbook.

One was the ritual of the spell itself, which could be broken down into smaller ritual rune units.

The other was the runes used to construct the spellbook using the True Editing technique.

Even though I was starting to learn about runes now, Teacher Ji Niang still only allowed me to touch the runes involved in the former, but not the latter.

Because I hadn’t mastered the True Editing technique, not even a basic understanding of it.

Messing around with it would cause the spellbook to completely self-destruct.

After a whole morning, my lunch was delivered here by takeout.

The modification of the spellbook was finally completed under my expectant gaze.

I didn’t even notice that my hands were trembling unconsciously from too much excitement.

“Try it. See if it meets your requirements.”

Ji Niang watched from the side as I finished the final encapsulation of the spellbook’s shell.

It could be said that I was the one who performed the practical operations on this spellbook from beginning to end, but Teacher Ji Niang was guiding me from the side.

This process of watching a difficult problem being solved by my own hands was simply too wonderful.

But if I were asked to repeat it, I don’t think I could.

This was a very real problem, a problem I needed to face.

Perhaps I wasn’t as smart as I thought, and the reason I could do these things must be for other reasons.

Just like a study god like Tan Han would always be willing to ask for advice from those below her, successful people always have some traits that ordinary people don’t.

I placed the spellbook into the spellbook shelf and then began to use it.

A Memory Bookshelf, completely different from the spellbook shelf, appeared.

The Memory Bookshelf retained the ability to be handwritten, and now it had a new ability: what you see is what you learn.

I consumed magic power to generate a new memory book.

I casually flipped through a few pages, and the inside was empty.

But this book was not a physical entity.

It floated in front of me, and I didn’t even need to hold it with my hands.

Then I picked up the rune book I had borrowed from the library before and started to look at it.

After reading it for a while, the corresponding content appeared in the memory book.

“How does it feel? It works pretty well, right?”

Teacher Ji Niang came over and asked with a smile.

Actually, she was also checking her own results.

Although she didn’t perform the practical operations, based on this theoretical knowledge, she needed to constantly reproduce it in her mind.

Only in this way would she be qualified to guide students on how to successfully modify a spellbook.

Ji Niang usually wouldn’t modify spellbooks like this.

It seemed that doing it once in a while wasn’t bad, at least it wasn’t a step back from before.

“Mm, it’s very successful, but… although it records quickly, it’s easier to make mistakes in this book. It needs to be double-checked.”

“Indeed. Language is a very magical thing. The more you want to be lazy, the more mistakes you’re likely to make. This is within an acceptable range. It’s just a matter of reading it a few more times. Just think of it as deepening your impression.”

“That’s right.”

I nodded in agreement.

But I could understand even more clearly the significance of this perfected spellbook for me at this moment.

I could quickly complete the accumulation of knowledge!

“It seems you’ve figured something out again.”

“Yes. Plans really can’t keep up with changes. I originally planned my future life, but now I have to overthrow those plans.”

“Why overthrow them? Plans are divided into short-term and long-term. If you want to change your plan, it must be because you feel that something is more meaningful than following the steps. That’s good, isn’t it?”

“Mm!”

I nodded heavily.

I was ultimately limited by myself.

Perhaps this was the confusion that someone without a good learning method would encounter.

“I plan to spend a week in the library to cram theoretical knowledge. Does Teacher Ji Niang support this idea?”

I raised my head and asked.

“Of course I support it. For ordinary people, knowledge needs to be accumulated step by step over a long period of time. But it’s obvious that this statement no longer applies to you. Although… I feel that a week might be a bit long for an impatient person like you, you’d better restrain yourself and polish yourself a bit, and calm down.”

Ji Niang sat down directly at this moment and educated me with a smile.

Some things could indeed be seen more clearly by outsiders.

Such an impetuous temperament was not even concealed.

Perhaps this kind of character could add a temporary burst of passion, but the later it gets, the more this impatience, in the face of long-term dullness and failure, can easily crush a fragile heart.

“Thank you.”

Having received Teacher Ji Niang’s approval, I was relieved.

But being called impatient… although I didn’t want to admit it, it seemed to be true.

I also wanted to have a calm and leisurely state of mind, but this was not something that could be achieved overnight.

And my seven-day plan was also to disappear from the face of the earth, to reduce my presence in the outside world and the possible crises.

After all, I didn’t know if there were other existences like the Sorceress Club in the Witch Academy.

Some things you should hide from if you can.

I’m not some protagonist who has to face difficulties head-on, or my Dao heart will be damaged or something.

My principle is to have less trouble, hide if I can, fight if I can’t, and if I can’t win, I’ll just lay low and develop.

And a week’s time is enough for many things to fade away.

People are forgetful.

When they learn that the former number one newcomer has disappeared from the face of the earth, besides regret, more people will feel schadenfreude.

Many people like to watch inspirational stories, but the premise is that they won’t have any intersection with themselves.

Once there is an intersection, then ordinary people will only want to see you make a fool of yourself.

This is very normal human nature.

“Why are you thanking me? You really should enrich your foundation. Otherwise, my research can’t even begin. To be honest, many people are not optimistic about my group, including you. After all, in their eyes, pinning their hopes on a newcomer is undoubtedly foolish.”

“So next, am I supposed to prove that they are the foolish ones?”

“You’re really bold to say that. Just say this kind of thing here. Remember, you’d better not say this in front of other Transcendent Witches. They won’t be polite to you.”

“Mm, I understand.”

I nodded, but quickly thought of something else.

“By the way, Teacher Ji Niang, is the academy ultimately going to make some big move?

Related to the secret realm, and teacher, did you also hope I would go to the Witch’s Secret Realm when you mentioned it to me before?”

“I did have that thought. It seems you know about it?”

“Yes… yesterday I was approached by a senior from the Witch’s Secret Realm Club who claimed to be the former president.”

“No wonder. You must have learned a lot. Do you have any intention of participating?”

Teacher Ji Niang asked.

“No.”

I shook my head and said.

“No? Why? Logically speaking, you shouldn’t be one to not get involved.”

“It was a decision made after weighing the pros and cons. I want to lie low for a while.”

“Lie low? Is that a word you would say? The number one newcomer needs to lie low? Aren’t you afraid of being laughed at?”

“When I understand what I should be doing, when others laugh at me, it will ultimately just turn into them laughing at themselves.”

“A very steady answer. You clearly understand many things, but sometimes you always act contrary to your understanding,” Ji Niang said with a smile.

“Maybe I’ve drunk too much toxic chicken soup. Knowing, understanding, and doing are completely different things. If others laugh, then just take it as a way to temper my character.”

Teacher Ji Niang gave her full support to my idea and was constantly admonishing me not to be too hasty.

Even when it was time to leave, I was reflecting on myself.

Was I really that hasty?

Teacher Ji Niang also told me to leave more time for myself to experience life, and not to always think of time as a commodity for exchanging benefits.

Living like that would be very tiring.

But Teacher Ji Niang was right, it was indeed very tiring, but I was already somewhat numb in my thinking, no, or rather, I had become accustomed to it.

Logically speaking, I should also like to be a lazy bum, but now I was constantly being pushed forward.

If this driving force was just my fascination with Transcendent power, I wouldn’t believe it myself.

Before leaving, I also directly used a disguise technique to change my appearance.

To say it was changing my appearance, it was actually just changing my hair and eye color.

“Is this another image you’ve set for yourself?”

“Mm, I don’t want to cause too much trouble,” I said, playing with my long silver-white hair.

White hair really is the best.

“Mm… it seems like something is missing… you’re planning to spend a week in the library with this image, right?”

“Mm, is there a problem?”

I looked at Teacher Ji Niang with some curiosity.

It seemed like Teacher Ji Niang still had something to say.

“Let me give you something good.”

Teacher Ji Niang walked back to her office, and I followed.

“Wear this…”

Ji Niang took out a pair of black-framed glasses and put them on my face.

“This way you look very literary.”

“Ah?”

I frowned deeply.

I didn’t expect Teacher Ji Niang to be a witch who would play this kind of joke with me.

“This is an alchemy item, anti-fatigue glasses. They self-adjust to myopia, and also have a slight effect of improving myopia. The main function is to relieve eye fatigue. If you don’t want them, give them back to me. This is a small toy I won in a bet with another witch before.”

“No, thank you, Teacher Ji Niang. A gift given cannot be taken back.”

I subconsciously picked up the glasses and saw an unknown text etched on the inside of the temple.

“That’s the name of the witch etched in the witch language. It’s the name of that witch. She’s good at alchemy, but has a habit of etching her own name on her works as a mark. You don’t need to worry about these things.”

“Witch language?”

I tilted my head, hearing this term for the first time.

“The common language of the witch race. Don’t worry too much. This is something you’ll only have to worry about after you leave this world. Moreover, the witch language is already a mature language system. It has undergone special integration. You can master it with a single contract.”

“Wait… a contract can master knowledge?”

I immediately grasped the keyword.

“It can indeed, but it’s much more troublesome than your Memory Bookshelf. A contract is equivalent to printing. It’s difficult at the beginning, but once you have a template, you can mass-produce it. This is the advantage of a contract, but you don’t need to put the cart before the horse. Just enrich your Memory Bookshelf yourself.”

“Okay.”

I nodded silently, having learned many new things again.

I’d better just quietly write them down.

I adjusted my glasses, as if activating a past habit.

In my previous life, I was also an ordinary person, and myopia was inevitable, so I had the habit of wearing glasses.

I had paid attention in this life, and perhaps also due to the influence of Spirit Vision, I was not nearsighted.

I thought I had lost this habit, but I didn’t expect this habit to reappear so naturally.

And this pair of alchemy glasses, after quickly self-adjusting, became plano lenses.

“Also, take all these printed materials from beginning to end with you. Look at them from time to time. This is one of the few practical applications you have in the field of runes. Just reading dead books is not good. Sometimes, remember to practice more.”

“Understood.”

I nodded and took away all the printed paper that had piled up into a small mountain.

This was the guidance material organized by Teacher Ji Niang.

It was very meaningful to read it many times.

And this was also the content involved in modifying a non-restricted consumption spellbook.

Feeling its weight in front of me, I couldn’t help but sigh that I still had a long way to go.
