Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 159: The Massive Battle Royale Begins

After getting a general idea of the situation online, I went out for some fresh air.

Of course, it was mainly because Big Sis Bai had brought me my clothes and other things.

If it weren’t for her phone call, I wouldn’t have even noticed that I had been scrolling through videos for so long.

“Hehe I’ve troubled you to make this trip, Big Sis Bai.”

After taking the clothes, I said with some embarrassment.

“It’s nothing. You should prepare a few more sets of clothes yourself and bring them over tomorrow. It’s inevitable that clothes will get torn during competitions, so it’s very necessary to carry a few sets with you,” Big Sis Bai lectured me.

“I know, I know I will. Um… I’ll go get changed first.”

After bidding farewell to Big Sis Bai again, I held the new clothes.

This set looked like it was newly bought.

Big Sis Bai seemed to know my measurements very well; I had originally thought Big Sis Bai would go to my dorm to get them.

But as I held the new clothes Big Sis Bai had prepared for me, a thigh strap fell out from inside.

Alright, Big Sis Bai still likes thigh straps as much as ever.

There’s really nothing I can do about it.

Since this is one of Big Sis Bai’s few hobbies, how could I not satisfy her?

Soon, I put on this new set of clothes, which fit my body perfectly.

At first, I was a bit worried that I wouldn’t be used to wearing new clothes, but it seems I underestimated Big Sis Bai’s eye for picking clothes.

I’m so envious of this ability to determine sizes out of thin air.

Finally, I put on the new thigh strap, then transferred all the things from the old thigh strap into the new one.

Everything was now ready.

It was time to go out for some fresh air and, while I was at it, see what the battles of the other newcomer class presidents were like.

I walked to the contestants’ viewing area and found my seat number 14.

Just the seats here were very comfortable soft seats, a clear difference from the hard seats packed closely together in the audience section.

If I had popcorn right now, it would be even more perfect, but to buy those, I’d have to take a big detour to the place that specifically sells them, so I didn’t bother with the effort.

I deliberately looked at the contestants on the field now.

As expected, this should be the last batch.

Once this batch of competitions is over, the winner’s group will be ranked and the loser’s group will be summarized.

Because the revival round in the afternoon is a competition among the loser’s group.

182 people competed for 18 spots.

It could be described as nothing short of crazy.

Even I would probably have a hard time if I were ganged up on by everyone.

This situation was not impossible.

Because of what happened in the morning, everyone knew I was not to be trifled with.

It was inevitable that some people would think of concentrating their forces to eliminate the strongest, and this could be achieved with some simple guidance.

So I needed an absolute deterrent to force them to compete for the remaining 17 spots.

So the Illusory Clone was a very good ability at this time to distract them, so they couldn’t collectively focus their fire on me alone.

They were, after all, competitors with each other.

Every one of them was as shrewd as they come.

How could they like being used as a pawn by others?

As long as a consensus couldn’t be reached, then they were just a pile of loose sand, nothing to be afraid of.

Just as I was thinking this, my surroundings suddenly became quiet, with only the distant audience stands still making a lot of noise.

There were originally quite a few contestants here, and the sound of chatting was not quiet.

This sudden silence naturally surprised me a little.

Then, I saw a figure walking towards me.

She was like the focus of everyone’s attention, making it impossible for me to ignore her even if I wanted to.

Tan Han, why is this person sticking to me again?

She’s from Class 1, her seat isn’t in this direction.

As this quiet atmosphere passed, the sound of gossip soon began.

After all, Tan Han and I, from their perspective, were rivals!

Especially since I had lost by a narrow margin, they naturally assumed that my relationship with Tan Han was not good, and were even guessing whether we would confront each other right here in the stands.

But it was obvious they were overthinking.

“Little Han…”

I leaned back in my seat, tilted my head back, took a deep breath, and then met Tan Han’s gaze.

“Regarding this competition…”

“It’s naturally over. Only the weak will dwell on the past. Don’t tell me you’re still thinking about this matter.”

I interrupted Tan Han.

The moment she opened her mouth, I roughly knew what she wanted to say.

Tan Han didn’t expect me to reply to her like this.

In an instant, all the words she had prepared turned into useless vocabulary, without even a chance to be spoken.

“Alright, but I still want to apologize for what happened before.”

“I’ve received your apology. There shouldn’t be anything else, right?”

“But I haven’t said what it’s for.”

Tan Han still spoke up to defend herself against my repeated interruptions.

“I don’t have much interaction with you, only those few things in total. I’ll just assume you’re apologizing for everything at once, and I accept the apology.”

I met Tan Han’s gaze.

When a matter is seen through so clearly, there is no need for too many words to describe it, just like now.

But it was obvious that Tan Han did not see it as clearly as I did.

“But I still have many things to explain to you.”

Tan Han walked to my side and sat down in the seat next to me.

Although there was a partition like a coffee table, I still felt she was a bit too close to me.

“Excessive explanations are nothing more than verbal embellishments of past events. Rather than saying you are explaining to me, it would be better to say you are convincing yourself. Don’t think of me as too complicated. I have already accepted your apology. You can keep the explanation for yourself.”

I continued to speak unhurriedly.

But just as Tan Han was about to speak again, I cut her off first.

“If you still don’t understand that I’m keeping my distance from you, then please allow me to put on earplugs before you explain to me.”

“Also, you’re in someone else’s seat. Yours is over there.”

Tan Han sighed at my interruption.

She naturally felt very helpless about this, but being snubbed like this made her feel very embarrassed.

In the past, or even now, she had never been treated like this by anyone else, and with so many people watching here, it made her feel even more embarrassed.

But she also understood that I was in no mood to listen to her at this moment, so it was useless for her to say anything more.

Tan Han didn’t quite understand why all of this had turned out this way.

Was it her self-righteous performance on the field, her possessed-like expression in that space of her talent, or the fact that she had won the final victory of the first match by a fluke.

It seemed that each of these was one of the reasons that led to the current situation.

But in Tan Han’s view, all of this had to start from the time they met in the library, because that incident had led to the current inability to communicate normally.

In her perception, only communication could clear up misunderstandings between people.

Now, even the means to clear up the misunderstanding was gone.

“Little Han, the bet before the match does it still count?”

Tan Han asked subconsciously, but after saying it, she felt it was inappropriate and added, “Never mind, let’s just say it doesn’t count.”

“Of course it counts.”

I turned my head to look at Tan Han.

Her move of retreating in order to advance, by first bringing up the matter and then saying it didn’t count, was played very well, but if she encountered someone who took things seriously, this kind of trick would be completely ineffective.

“Mmm… I’ve kind of forgotten what we bet on. Could you tell me again?”

“Why are you keeping your distance from me?”

“Mmm… okay.”

I agreed with a light laugh.

It seemed Tan Han was still very clear-headed.

I naturally remembered what the bet was about.

It was to tell her the whole story, but that would be too much to say.

Now Tan Han changed her question to just asking why I was keeping my distance from her.

It seemed she also understood that I would not reveal everything.

And her tone of voice was also very particular.

After all, she did not ask me from the stance of a winner, but discussed it with me and sought my consent.

The nature of this was still different.

This must have been difficult for this young lady.

“Because we are not people of the same world. This is the most direct reason.”

I stated it directly from the start.

This sentence also had multiple meanings, it just depended on how Tan Han understood it.

She was a rich young lady, I was a poor boy; she was the protagonist, I was a side character; she was a study god, I was just an ordinary student.

The last point was a bit incorrect.

I could no longer be considered an ordinary student now.

At the very least, I was one of the best among the newcomers.

The gap between Tan Han and me was large, but I was confident that I would catch up, but not now.

Just like the initial gap between a study god and a newcomer, which I have now closed.

After all, catching up also takes time.

Even if Tan Han was some so-called protagonist, she was ultimately still a living person, and I am also a living person.

How could a person be trapped by a so-called script?

I just can’t jump out of it for now.

If this so-called script was a grand game of chess for this entire world, then those teachers, and even the higher-ups of other academies, were the chess players of this game.

Is it possible that everything could change if I become a Transcendent Witch?

Then is it possible for me to become a Transcendent Witch?

Naturally, it’s possible.

I can’t be confined to this world forever.

I still want to see the outside world.

Even if I jump out not as a chess player to play against others, but just as a bystander, I will not be affected by this muddy water.

What I’m afraid of is that I’ve now entered the game and become someone else’s chess piece without even knowing it.

But thankfully, the transcendent world has means of resurrection.

This is one of the reasons why I can be at ease.

After all, if a person is not afraid of the threat of death, there is really nothing else to be afraid of, unless it is a life worse than death.

“Just because we are not people of the same world?”

Tan Han asked again.

“Mmm, someone like you will bring me trouble, endless trouble. Even if you are just being kind, I can’t afford it.”

“This is the answer you’re giving me?”

“Yes,” I nodded and said.

After all, one could understand this just by thinking about it.

Just because I had a battle with Tan Han, I fell into such great trouble, signing a secrecy contract, and learning truths that I shouldn’t have to bear at my age.

But what did I get in return?

The so-called academy compensation?

Or the so-called destiny?

I still feel it’s far from enough.

But speaking of destiny, I looked at the wisp of destiny thread around my body, which was mixed into my hair like a strand of hair.

This is destiny, not the fate that Tan Han thinks it is.

But if I have to understand it that way, it seems it’s not my place to correct her.

In the end, I have no obligation to correct her mistakes.

By the way, should I find some time to ask Teacher Ji Niang how to use this destiny?

I’m a little afraid that this thing will become a puppet string to control me.

Compared to this ethereal destiny, I still prefer more practical things, even if it’s just an improvement in my control over Spirit Vision.

After all, the two times I saw Tan Han’s Spirit Eye gave me a deeper understanding and control of Spirit Vision, which made me have to think in this direction.

“Anyway thank you for your answer.”

After getting this answer, Tan Han stood up as if to leave.

Although she scoffed at the answer I gave her in her heart, she didn’t ask any more questions.

“Can I be so bold as to ask one last question?”

“That depends on what you’re asking.”

“I want to know the whole time, did you really just use the Fireball spellbook?”

I was stunned when I heard Tan Han’s words.

I didn’t expect her to ask this question!

This shows that she has a very good eye.

“Yes,” I nodded firmly.

“How did you do it?”

Tan Han quickly followed up with a question.

From this, it could be seen that Tan Han believed me, because she didn’t say it was impossible like the first time, but asked me how I did it.

But unfortunately, the current Tan Han couldn’t do it.

It was like the saying, ”If you don’t have the diamond drill, don’t take on the porcelain work.”

Her basic standards were not up to par.

“That’s the second question. You said you would only ask one last one.”

“Sorry, I was too hasty. Anyway… I won’t disturb you anymore.”

Tan Han also realized her gaffe and didn’t press on.

Instead, she slightly concealed her embarrassment and looked at the arena.

“Please do your best in the afternoon’s competition. I believe you will not be hindered by such difficulties.”

“Hehe, I’ll take your good words.”

With the complete end of the first round of elimination matches, all 364 contestants had finally completed their first match.

The winner advances, the loser is eliminated.

And this massive battle royale in the afternoon was the last chance for the loser’s group to struggle.

The huge light screen above the arena displayed the schedule and procedures for the upcoming matches.

The countdown for the next match also began.

The list of participants for the massive battle royale was also announced at this moment.

The free time in between was both the interval between the two rounds of matches and the time to rearrange the arena.

After all, this was a massive battle royale, and the partitioned areas of the arena were not suitable for a battle royale of 182 people, so they needed to be integrated.

And this one hour was also time for the last batch of contestants to rest, treat their injuries, recover their stamina, and restore their magic power.

The healing potions, recovery potions, and magic power recovery potions needed for this were all provided by the academy.

The interval was only one hour, and the official start time would be in the afternoon at the earliest.

During this period, the sky above the arena would naturally not be empty.

The highlight clips of the first round of matches were constantly looping and switching.

After all, the inside of the arena was being broadcast live, so they couldn’t just keep filming an empty arena, right?

It would be better to find someone to sneak into the contestants’ preparation area to conduct private interviews.

At this time, I also got up and walked to the preparation area.

It would be a bit inappropriate to keep watching from the spectator area.

My getting up naturally attracted the attention of many people, especially the contestants who were about to participate in the upcoming revival round with me.

After reaching the front, the referees here began to explain some of the precautions for this massive battle royale.

That is, the detailed parts of the competition rules.

Collective targeting was allowed in the massive battle royale, and alchemical items below the specified limits could also be used.

And the criteria for elimination were shouting surrender loudly or losing the ability to resist and move.

At that time, the referees on the sidelines would clear the eliminated contestants from the field in a way that would not interfere with the competition.

Of course, voluntarily walking out of the designated area or being forced out of bounds was also considered a surrender.

Until there were only 18 contestants left on the field.

Of course, in the massive battle royale, the act of ”the strong protecting the weak” was not allowed.

If this behavior was displayed blatantly, and situations like admitting to it occurred, the referee would also eliminate them, and both the protector and the protected would be eliminated.

It was safe to believe that this massive battle royale would not last long, but it would definitely be exciting.

But many contestants would also adopt a conservative approach.

After all, being too conspicuous would get you targeted.

“Everyone, if there are no problems, you can enter the field freely. There is still a while before the start of the competition. If you have any questions, you can continue to ask me here.”

With the referees’ announcement, the contestants were also guided into the arena.

The central open-air arena, not divided into multiple areas, was extremely large.

And there were no clear regulations for the contestants’ standing positions; it was free standing.

As long as you felt that you could gain an advantage the moment the competition started, you could even stand in a corner.

After entering the arena, a very magical scene also appeared.

A marginal area of the huge arena, with me at the center, was left with a large vacuum.

It seems they are really wary of me…

But it doesn’t matter.

At least this shows that even just by standing here, I have enough ability to deter them.

Compared to enjoying this feeling, I still prefer to experience my own spellbooks.

After all, I have acquired quite a few spellbooks at once, and there are many types that I have never used before.

Compared to these fancy spellbooks, I still prefer my Fireball and Energy Shield.

After all, they are old partners that I know inside and out, and they are very easy to use.

But this does not mean that I will not use my other spellbooks.

You must know that I now possess and can use a powerful spell that consumes a hundred points of magic power.

Think about Tan Han’s Flame Lord Summoning Spell, which in an instant turned the ground into molten lava for a thousand miles.

I think my…

”Protection of the Elemental Spirit” should also be very powerful.

It’s just that the instructions in this spellbook are not very clear, just a description and usage steps.

After this spell is cast, one will receive the protection of a random elemental spirit, and it will be accompanied by a guardian spirit that will follow me.

It is similar to a combination of a buff spell and a summoning spell.

The elemental spirit will increase the damage of the corresponding elemental type of spell, enhance the caster’s corresponding elemental affinity, and there will be additional bonus damage when attacking.

And the description of the protection effect is both tough and powerful.

The accompanying guardian spirit will also autonomously cooperate with the caster to cast spells, including both attack and protection types of spells.

It seems to be a spell with a very wide range of applicability, especially helpful for elemental type spell turrets.

It’s just that the ”random” part is a bit of a pitfall.

This will greatly limit the caster’s fighting style, and also requires the caster to have many elemental types of spells as a contingency.

After all, if you bet wrong, it is equivalent to wasting a hundred magic powers!

I really don’t know if this spellbook can specify an element after being modded.

Unfortunately, there is no time left for me to study it.

“All contestants have entered the field. Attention all contestants, there is one last minute of preparation time before the battle begins!”

With the referee’s loud announcement, the big screen above the arena also turned into a one-minute countdown.

The audience stands were already full of people at this moment, and many people spontaneously started counting down.

The sound waves echoed throughout the entire arena.

When there were only 30 seconds left, the atmosphere in the arena reached its peak, and almost everyone was counting down along with the sound wave.

All the people on the field were excitedly rubbing their fists, and some even had their alchemical items in a state of readiness under this atmosphere.

Some even ignored my deterrent and walked into my warning range.

“10!…9!…8!…7!…”

“3!…2!…1!”

“The match begins!”

With the referee’s loud announcement and the huge starting sound.

In an instant, the brilliance of spells flashed across the entire arena!

And the referees were also ready to act.

After all, the beginning of the competition was also the peak period for eliminations.

A sudden sneak attack and surprise would be the most fatal attack.

Even I didn’t dare to not go all out at this moment.

A protective spell to start to ensure my own safety.

The body enhancement from the wrist guards and the cat-person transformation were also very fast to cast because they were alchemical items.

These two spells could ensure that I had room to maneuver in the face of any attack, and they were also a means of self-protection when I was approached.

You must know that everyone present was the best of their respective classes.

The spells they possessed were also varied, and the ones with the strongest and most balanced overall abilities were naturally various transformation spells.

Just one transformation spell could solve many problems such as a weak body, lack of attack power, and poor defense.

So looking around, there were not a few contestants who had transformation spells.

And when I looked at the arena, what greeted me were those guys closest to me.

“Everyone, focus fire and eliminate number 14! Otherwise, if she forms a spell, she can eliminate all of us!”

Just a simple sentence made the nearby people put aside their prejudices and look at me.

It was just as I predicted, but not everyone would listen to her.

After all, the big explosion that affected the entire arena in the previous match was still vivid in everyone’s mind.

But only I knew that the reason for such a terrifying explosion was because of the clash between ice and fire spells, wasn’t it?

Even if I sacrificed another Fireball spellbook, I couldn’t create such a terrifying explosion by myself.

Unfortunately, they didn’t understand the reason for this.

They just simply didn’t want to be eliminated collectively, otherwise their life-and-death struggle would be a joke.

But I was not afraid of such a siege, or rather, I had passed the stage of being afraid of such a siege.

With my powerful physical fitness and the agility of a cat-person, I could use my energy shield more recklessly, and even perform multiple aerial maneuvers.

And they did not have such means, unless they had flying spells or alchemical items.

Otherwise, they could only attack me with ranged spells.

But I was confident that I could make these newcomers who had a not-so-short ”casting time” understand a principle, that is, don’t shoot randomly if you don’t have good aim.

Just as I was quickly approaching the first person who called on everyone, I also had a very active thought.

Compared to me taking off in the air by using the energy shield, wouldn’t it be faster to just ride a flying broom?

A flying broom is also an alchemical item!

And it’s a functional alchemical item with no attack power, so it’s naturally within the allowed range.

It seems it’s not impossible.

But first, I have to get rid of that talkative person!

This person who had already completed the tiger-person spell transformation was still a very high threat.

That terrifying physique, those sharp claws, and the powerful feline agility endowed by the tiger-person were all her weapons.

Who on earth was such a person eliminated by?

Her appearance showed a great difference from my cat-person transformation.

But it was obvious that my agility was also a big step higher than hers.

And her transformation spell naturally couldn’t withstand my Fireball directly hitting the core ritual of her transformation spell.

And her attack was blocked by my energy shield.

It could even be said that it didn’t need to be blocked.

When I came into contact with her, the energy shield blocked the force point of her arm, so this attack had no power.

This physical attack didn’t even break the one-point consumption energy shield, which was truly a pity.

When the spell was broken, her tiger-person spell transformation was also directly dispelled and she returned to her original appearance.

While she was still in disbelief, she was kicked out of the field by me.

As her figure fell into the arms of a referee, her competition came to an end here.

“It’s your turn!”

I didn’t stop for a moment, turned around as if looking at prey, and went towards those who had been instigated.

You dare to gang up on me?

How dare you!
