Chapter 113: If I too had great power...

But soon, I discovered that I was mistaken.

In the afternoon, I took advantage of my free time to have a meal and casually borrowed a book from the library to pass the time.

This book was Analysis of Spellbook Construction.

Of course, the name of this book sounded impressive, but it was still classified as a popular science reader, the kind that popularizes common knowledge.

It also included some professional explanations.

As for whether I could understand them... I’d figure that out when the time came.

And now, I was forced to watch the commotion here.

This was a spontaneous gathering place for club recruitment, so naturally, incidents of clubs fighting over new students occurred.

The battle here naturally showed the newly arrived freshmen the local customs of the Transcendent Academy, and it also taught me a lesson.

In the academy, it was truly possible for minor conflicts to escalate into clashes.

The place I had been in before seemed a bit too peaceful, to the point where I almost thought I was attending a regular academy.

Of course, this was excluding the previous conflict between academies, where even the Curtain Wall in the sky was broken.

In the end, this farce was forced to a stop because a team of senior students in uniform came to violently persuade them.

After asking a senior, I learned that these seniors were from a department within the academy specialized in handling violations of school rules, or serious fights and spell bombardments.

The official name was the “Witch Academy Disciplinary Squad”.

This squad usually had the duty of flying patrols in the sky, allowing them to quickly respond to and monitor various disciplinary violations.

Moreover, the minimum requirement to join this department was to be a senior who had completed her academy studies.

After all, to maintain harmony in the academy, combat power was essential.

Alright

judging by their swift and decisive style, they were indeed not to be trifled with, but the terrifying and overwhelming combat power they displayed truly made me yearn for it.

If I also had this level of power then I...

Thinking of this, my train of thought suddenly broke.

However, in that instant, countless ideas flashed through my mind, but none could replace my final choice.

If I possessed great power, it seemed it wouldn’t mean much to the compliments of others, the envy of others, the fear of enemies, the fawning of friends...

None of these seemed to be what I wanted.

However, a sudden commotion soon shattered my fantasy and brought me back to reality.

I was clearly just a newly enrolled freshman, so why was I starting to think about such unrealistic things?

After silently cursing myself, I looked towards the source of the commotion.

A lot of people had gathered there, and when I focused my gaze, I saw a familiar figure.

Tan Han.

“Tsk…”

Seeing this familiar figure, I couldn’t help but click my tongue.

I had run into someone I didn’t want to meet.

But what was she doing here at this time?

However, the store manager was with her, so the answer was self-evident.

She was probably brought here by the store manager.

Tan Han’s fame was such that even someone like me had heard of her deeds.

If she was brought here for a tour, I felt that quite a few people would join the Bakery Club on account of Tan Han’s status.

I had also heard before that the store manager urgently wanted to expand the club’s membership.

And reality was indeed so.

Tan Han’s arrival attracted a lot of attention, especially after someone recognized and pointed out her identity.

After subconsciously glancing at Tan Han with Spirit Vision, I was shocked by the countless Magic Power Sources within her body.

The quantity might have already reached three digits.

Many of the seniors I had met probably only had around this number, yet on the first day of school, Tan Han had already reached a level that took others several years to achieve.

Is this the gap?

It seemed my gaze was too intense.

Tan Han, who was dealing with a senior who had come up to chat, glanced over at me in a spare moment.

She naturally responded with a smile, but I didn’t dare to look her directly in the eye because I had promised Big Sis Bai to unilaterally cut ties with Tan Han.

If someone were to ask me at this moment if I regretted it, I would definitely say I don’t, because this was my promise with Big Sis Bai.

Even if Big Sis Bai is not by my side now, I will not break my promise.

At this moment, I was already thinking about how to politely decline any interaction with her.

Although it might seem very cruel of me, I could only apologize for it.

And my only communication with her would be to say sorry.

Of course, perhaps I was overestimating myself.

Tan Han didn’t come over to chat with me or anything.

She was just following the store manager’s wishes to come here and help her recruit new members, acting as a living signboard.

As for me, I stood up and prepared to leave.

I also put away the book in my hands, lest Tan Han commented on it being a popular science reader again.

I had already accompanied Senior Ying Shiqian for the whole morning.

It should be normal to have things to do and leave in the afternoon, right?

After all, the store manager and Tan Han were also here to accompany her.

It wouldn’t matter if I was gone.

Besides, I was never forced to come and recruit new members in the first place.

At worst, I would just forfeit the salary Senior Ying Shiqian promised me.

But I should still inform the senior about this.

I’ll just send her a private message on my phone.

Meanwhile.

Xia Li was already taking advantage of the buzz brought by Tan Han to promote her own club, drawing scorn from many other clubs.

But who could blame them when the other party got lucky and managed to pull Tan Han into their club?

Tan Han’s fame was still very attractive to the freshmen, and she even attracted the high-quality type of freshmen.

After all, those who admired good students also valued studying.

The top student of this year, Tan Han, has joined this club, so this club must have its merits!

There’s no harm in joining.

Even if there are no benefits, what if I can build some connections?

“Eh? Ying Shiqian, didn’t you say Little Han was coming too? Where is she?”

After finishing her spiel, Xia Li came to the Red Velvet Bakery Club’s recruitment spot.

“Huh? I don’t know, she was clearly here just a moment ago.”

Ying Shiqian, who was still handing out free cookies, was stunned by the question.

“Forget it, let’s leave it at that for now. Hurry up and register the new members. I wonder how many will be willing to stay in the end.”

“Oh… wait, Little Han sent me a message. It seems she had something to do and left first.”

Amidst her busy work, Ying Shiqian still took out her phone and saw the message I left.

“I see, then let her go be busy. We have our own things to be busy with too.”

Having already walked far away, I naturally didn’t hear the conversation there.

I just wanted to leave this place quickly, but I didn’t know where to go next.

I didn’t know what I was running away from.

Maybe it was the promise with Big Sis Bai, or maybe it was the inferiority I felt after seeing Tan Han.

Previously, Senior Ying Shiqian had asked me if I felt the pressure from this year’s study god.

I said no.

Now that I’ve witnessed it, I feel it now.

Tan Han didn’t just possess over a hundred Magic Power Sources; more crucially, it was the spells she had.

Those existences, each like a spellbook, intertwined with the Magic Power Sources within Tan Han’s body, complementing each other brilliantly.

I didn’t know what those spells were exactly.

Perhaps they were terrifying spells, or perhaps they were just ordinary spells stacked in large numbers.

The question I thought of before echoed in my mind again: If I had great power, what then, should I do?

Should I compare myself with Tan Han, to prove that I am no worse than her?

This was my first reaction, because all my actions, reactions, and internal struggles up to this point seemed to be just that.

But after reaching this conclusion, I only found it laughable.

Since when was power something to be compared with others?

To use a famous quote I’ve heard, “Where does this unprovoked desire to compare come from?”

That’s right, where does it come from?

At this moment, I stopped in my tracks and looked back.

I had already walked a long way.

Had I wandered aimlessly for such a long distance because of this ridiculous desire to win?

From there to here…

I raised my head and looked at the coffee shop by the street.

This was a very meaningful destination, representing my sober realization of myself and acknowledgment of my own shortcomings.

Why not go in and take a break?

Just to adjust my mood.

It’s definitely not because this shop is a maid cafe.
