The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 640: Chapter 639: Truly Useless

Putting his mind at ease, Huangfu Yuxuan once again curled up inside the carriage. He knew that no matter how unbearable the smell was, he must endure it throughout the journey.

He would still quickly find an inn along the road, letting the two of them bathe first before anything else.

Xia Wenjin boarded the indigo carriage and said to Ah Yuan, ”Back to the mansion!”

Ah Yuan was delighted and responded loudly, ”Yes!” With a flick of the whip, he drove the carriage towards the Xia Mansion.

Despite the luxury carriage on the other side and that man’s wish to invite the lady, the lady did not agree. Moreover, she chose to sit in the carriage he was driving. This made Ah Yuan very happy.

However, after traveling a while and losing sight of the two carriages, Xia Wenjin’s voice coolly sounded within the carriage, ”Ah Yuan, you should return to Xue Niang’s side. It’s not suitable for you to stay by my side!”

Ah Yuan was shocked, almost steering the carriage onto the roadside, but he quickly controlled it. With a trembling voice, he asked, ”Miss... did I do something wrong?” He didn’t dare to stop the carriage to speak. With his back towards the compartment, unable to see Xia Wenjin’s expression, he was flustered.

Xia Wenjin sighed softly and said, ”Ah Yuan, do you know the identity of that Brocade Young Master earlier?”

Ah Yuan shook his head. He had just been assigned here and knew the person was of unusual identity but not exactly who they were.

Xia Wenjin said, ”He is the son of the Eldest Prince, the true Imperial Grandson of the current Emperor. You noticed I was unwilling to make more contact with him and tried to protect me. But you overdid it — your gaze has already been remembered by him. He is a person with a vicious mind and ruthless actions. He views human life as mere grass. Staring at him like that, just now in front of everyone he might not react, but he will certainly send someone to kill you. It’s unsafe for you to be by my side!”

Ah Yuan replied, ”I’m not afraid!”

Xia Wenjin unpleased said, ”Ah Yuan, when I saved you and went to great lengths to detoxify you, it wasn’t for you to die easily. You must live well, do you understand?”

Ah Yuan tightly gripped the reins, mumbling, ”Understood!”

Miss Wenjin was afraid he would be killed. Why couldn’t he hold his temper earlier? A gaze couldn’t kill anyone; why did he express such a gaze to be noticed at that moment? Truly foolish, really!

His life was saved by the lady, and if the lady didn’t want him dead, he wouldn’t die!

He pleaded softly, ”Miss, I will be careful, and from now on, I won’t do that again. Let me stay by your side, my carriage driving is excellent, you see, I’ve been steady all along!”

Suddenly, the carriage jolted violently.

Just now, on the road, there was a stone that Ah Yuan, being too nervous, didn’t notice, and the wheel rolled over it, nearly tipping over. He hurried to stop the carriage and looked back.

Xia Wenjin had not drawn down the curtain, so as soon as he turned his head, he saw Xia Wenjin holding her head. She had just been hit unexpectedly.

Ah Yuan was so anxious that his eyes turned red. He intended to drive the carriage well so that Miss Wenjin could ride comfortably. Unexpectedly, due to his carelessness, he ended up bumping Miss Wenjin. He hastily said, ”Miss, I... I...”

Seeing Ah Yuan’s flustered appearance, Xia Wenjin lowered her hand, revealing a soothing smile, ”Don’t worry, I’m fine!”

She raised her eyes, her gaze landing on Ah Yuan’s face, as clear as a spring, like the purest snow in the world, and her voice gentle yet filled with trust: ”Ah Yuan, don’t be afraid to tell you, that young master for some unknown reason wishes for me to marry him, but I won’t marry him. So, one day we’re destined to turn against each other, and being around me is very dangerous. I saved you not to put you in danger again, but in hope that you can live well, live a good life!”

Ah Yuan anxiously said, ”I... I’m not afraid of death, I can protect you!” If someone wanted to harm the lady, he could stand in front and take the blow!

Xia Wenjin shook her head and smiled, ”Ah Yuan, do you know how many masters are around an Imperial Grandson? If he wanted to target someone, how high do you think the martial arts skills of the people he’d send are? If he really made a move, you wouldn’t even be able to protect yourself, how would you protect me? Ah Yuan, even beside Xue Niang, you’re still helping me, and you’d be able to help me more that way!”

Ah Yuan knew that he probably couldn’t stay by the lady’s side. He secretly cursed his own uselessness. If only he had martial arts skills like the Old Witch, he could then stay by the lady’s side and protect her.

But he didn’t. Back then, the Old Witch guarded against him, and even if he tried to secretly learn, she never gave him a chance to acquire advanced martial arts. He only had a makeshift skillset, and if someone came against the lady, he wouldn’t be able to do anything.

And if he took up this position, there’d be no way to assign someone formidable by the lady’s side; what about her safety then?

He wished to stay and serve by the lady’s side, but he didn’t want his presence to compromise her safety!

So, he had no choice but to leave.

Seeing the lady’s forehead marked with a red spot, a result of the carriage bump, though not deep, it stood out on her face as white as White Jade.

Ah Yuan’s gaze fell there, feeling both self-reproach and guilt. He was indeed useless!

The lady hadn’t blamed him for his carelessness but smiled and comforted him instead.

The lady did not look down on him, analyzed the situation for him in detail, without ever thinking him useless, instead worrying that staying by her side might cost him his life.

Initially, he thought he could repay the lady’s life-saving grace, but now he realized that those without skills are powerless even to talk of gratitude.

He secretly resolved to make every effort from now on to become someone capable of aiding the lady.

Over nearby, Xia Wanqing and Xia Sichen also got into the carriage, which started moving forward.

This time, Huangfu Yuxuan’s carriage was upfront, and Xia Wanqing’s carriage followed behind.

Though this ranking reassured Cui Huai a bit, thinking about his own young master sitting alongside two filthy individuals still felt unfair for his young master.

That Xia Wenjin was truly excessive. What kind of status did the young master hold? A dignified Imperial Grandson, an aristocrat of the Imperial Family, exalted and noble. Usually, when the young master travels, admitted, not amid overwhelming welcome, it is still grand in scale, and he never shares a carriage with others.

Look at that Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin, mere Third Class Captains, not even sure if they can keep their positions, how can they be fit to share a carriage with the young master? All because of giving Xia Wenjin face!

The young master went to such lengths for her, yet she just turned and left, ungrateful! Even if she eventually becomes the young master’s legitimate wife, Cui Huai feels he could never respect her as he respects the young master. At most, he’d fulfill his duties as a subordinate, but nothing more.

Inside the rear carriage, Xia Wanqing took out a small box and handed it to Xia Sichen.

Glancing at it, Xia Sichen remarked, ”Isn’t that the pearl hairpin from yesterday?” When Xia Sichen lifted his eyes, he asked, ”What for?”
