The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 638: Chapter 637: An Invitation That’s Hard to Refuse?

The carriage arrived at the destination.

Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin, who had just come out of prison, indeed looked a bit haggard.

Even though they knew that since they failed to deal with the several chiefs of Haotian Village, it was time to win people’s hearts. Huangfu Yuxuan had also sent people to look after them. Compared to other prisoners, Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin had a much better time. However, being in a dark, sunless prison, coupled with the injustice of being framed while trying to uphold justice, weighed heavily on them. How could a person’s spirit remain unaffected?

But, when they looked up and saw Xia Wanqing’s family, along with Huangfu Yuxuan, coming towards them, smiles appeared on their faces.

The past few days felt like a dream, but fortunately, it was all over now.

Xia Wanqing didn’t mind their unkempt appearance from not changing clothes for days in prison and gave them big hugs.

These hugs dispelled the shadows in their hearts.

Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin, remembering that they almost got their elder brother imprisoned, felt a wave of shame.

Although their time in prison wasn’t long, it felt like two different worlds. Xia Sichen and Xia Wenjin came to greet them with smiling faces, just like up in the village.

Watching them as a group while feeling like an outsider himself, Huangfu Yuxuan tactfully said from the side, ”I’ve already reserved a table at Yan Zui Xuan to welcome you two uncles.”

Such a strong intervention was very effective.

Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin quickly smiled and said, ”Young Master Xuan, thank you for personally coming. We really shouldn’t trouble you.”

Huangfu Yuxuan said, ”Please don’t say that, my uncles. It was my negligence that led to your prison time. I feel extremely ashamed and hope you’ll give me a chance to make amends.”

His sincere tone made Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin quickly respond, ”Young Master Xuan, don’t say that. This whole ordeal was an undeserved misfortune for us, and we’re grateful for your efforts on our behalf. We’ll definitely have to toast you several times!”

Xia Wenjin quickly added, ”Uncle Second, Uncle Third, Father has already prepared your residence, and the kitchen has prepared a meal, let’s go eat there!”

Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin looked towards Xia Wanqing, seeing him nod.

The two hesitated for a moment, and just as Hua Yuanming was about to agree, Gu Hongxin laughed and said, ”It’s our own home; we can eat anytime. Since Young Master Xuan has already reserved the banquet, it would be a waste not to go!”

Hua Yuanming agreed, saying, ”That’s right! We missed Young Master Xuan’s goodwill last time; we can’t do that again!”

Xia Wenjin’s eyes deepened slightly as he said, ”My uncles, you still have to go back and change clothes. Isn’t it a hassle to go back and forth? The reserved banquet hasn’t started cooking yet; canceling it wouldn’t be an issue! The home’s food was bought early in the morning, wasting that would be a real pity!”

Huangfu Yuxuan laughed and said, ”Miss Xia, when I reserved the banquet, I already had them start cooking. The idea was so that as soon as you two uncles arrived, you could eat hot food and drink fragrant wine. As for changing clothes, that’s not a problem at all. I’ve already had someone buy clothes from a tailor shop, and while we’re on the road, we can find an inn for my uncles to wash away the dust, then go enjoy the meal in a fresh state!”

Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin said awkwardly, ”Elder brother, since Young Master Xuan has already arranged everything so well, it would be hard to refuse...”

Xia Wanqing laughed and said, ”I understand. You’re right, Young Master Xuan has been so thoughtful. We must accept this gesture!”

Xia Sichen also laughed and said, ”Wenjin, you don’t understand, whether we drink at home or a restaurant doesn’t matter, today we drink until we drop. Since Young Master Xuan has arranged everything, leave it be, quickly go tell the kitchen not to wait!”

Huangfu Yuxuan quickly added, ”Just send a servant over to notify them!”

He was actually hoping Xia Wenjin would join too.

The more contact, the better to show her his excellence and win her heart.

Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin understood the implication in Huangfu Yuxuan’s words and quickly added, ”Wenjin should come too. We’re all from the village, aren’t we? Besides, it’ll be more lively together.”

Xia Wenjin laughed and said, ”Uncle Hua, do you want me to pour wine or serve dishes? You eat and drink while I serve? No way!”

She said playfully, wrinkling her nose and making a funny face.

Everyone laughed, knowing Xia Wenjin was disinclined to go, they jokingly dismissed the matter.

Regarding her and Young Master Yuxuan’s matter, they would love to see it happen, but only if Xia Wenjin wanted it. They could help along the way, but would never forcefully intervene and risk upsetting Wenjin.

Xia Wenjin casually found an excuse to decline.

This made Huangfu Yuxuan somewhat unhappy.

Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin glanced at him, their gaze clear: We want to help you, but if Wenjin isn’t willing, there’s only so much we can do.

Huangfu Yuxuan noticed that although Xia Wenjin was leaving, Xia Wanqing and Xia Sichen were still there.

He was opting for a middle strategy; everything seemed fine with Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin, but they were just adopted uncles, not blood-related.

The key was Xia Wanqing and Xia Sichen.

If he could win over these two, with so many helping hands, would Xia Wenjin still be able to escape his grasp?

Of course, before that, he had to deal with Huangfu Jingchen.

Since he exposed Huangfu Jingchen’s identity in front of Xia Wenjin that day, he hadn’t found any evidence of them meeting privately. Yet, caution is vital, so this hidden danger must be swiftly removed.

However, he wouldn’t get his hands dirty.

Such matters are best handled by using others to do the dirty work.

Besides, he couldn’t focus all his attention on this.

Prince Zhuang, now reduced to Commandery Prince Zhuang, was still active, and Prince Li frequented the Imperial Palace more often than his own residence. His grandfather most favored his youngest son, and his weight in his grandfather’s eyes wasn’t as heavy as Prince Li’s!

Furthermore, it’s likely that Prince Xin and Prince Lu could return to the capital under the pretext of celebrating Grandfather’s birthday.

He couldn’t prevent that, but must prepare early.

Every time he thought of his difficult situation, he wished to rid himself of his incompetent, hindering father.

If he could have secured the Crown Prince position, he would only have had to deal with Huangfu Hongyi alone.

Now he had to deal with all of Grandfather’s sons.

Knowing he couldn’t hold Xia Wenjin back, and while resenting her inability to recognize his worth, Huangfu Yuxuan still displayed a considerate facade, gently saying, ”Miss Xia, shall I have Cui Huai escort you back? My carriage is more comfortable!”

His carriage was large, spacious, luxurious, and comfortable.

Xia Wenjin replied nonchalantly, ”My Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu rescued people with good intentions, only to be framed and spent so long in prison, leaving them weak. They, of course, need Young Master Huangfu’s luxurious and comfortable carriage more than I do. As for me, my own carriage will do just fine!”
