The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 630: Chapter 629: Fairness

The door opened, revealing an exquisite and elegant arrangement, a comfortable and tasteful layout, exactly as she remembered.

The person was exactly the same too.

Wait, a person?!

In the joy of revisiting an old place, her eyes swept past a person and she quickly moved on—after all, there were quite a few familiar faces here.

But soon after passing by, she realized something.

The person was familiar, indeed, but this person was all too familiar.

Wasn’t this the private room Xia Sichen had reserved? Why was Huangfu Jingchen here?

She understood now; where were the three or five lovely beauties? Where was the dashing figure captivating hearts across the miles? Where was the entangled inescapable peach blossom disaster?

Clearly, Xia Sichen had planned this intentionally.

She had been manipulated by Xia Sichen!

Xia Wenjin paused, and the youthful joy on her face stiffened slightly. His bright and clean eyes harbored a hint of repressed emotion, seemingly restraining himself from rushing forward to hold onto her.

Yet his eyes also carried anticipation, wanting to speak but hesitant.

With such a clear gaze, like that of a young deer, it cleansed one’s soul; a gaze so pure one could see the depths within, see the expectation and anxiety in his eyes.

Xia Wenjin felt her heart warm, and she eventually walked in, saying, ”Did you plan to drink here with Xia Sichen? Xia Sichen couldn’t make it, so he asked me to come and tell you.”

Huangfu Jingchen stood still, his eyes fixed on Xia Wenjin. Upon hearing her words, his voice was tinged with an undeniable sense of loss: ”So, are you leaving?”

Xia Wenjin’s gaze swept over, looking towards the window, saying, ”Huangfu Jingchen, don’t waste your time on me. You should know your current situation isn’t ideal...”

Of course, Huangfu Jingchen knew. He wasn’t a reckless person, nor was he an ignorant youth.

However, when it came to Wenjin, he couldn’t remain calm. He said hoarsely, ”I know, but I want to see you...”

Xia Wenjin turned her head, her gaze colliding with Huangfu Jingchen’s eyes, shaken by the deep, ocean-like emotions within them. Her heart couldn’t help but tremble, again and again, as if struck by real pain, such longing, such anticipation, perhaps even a bit... humble?

Xia Wenjin was somewhat in a daze.

All along, she was pondering the meaning of her rebirth, thinking she had to live for her father and brothers in this lifetime. Therefore, she wanted to stay away from the court to prevent her family from being embroiled in court struggles again.

She also thought about how, in her previous life and even that world, Huangfu Jingchen was absent, and he must have been caught in life-or-death situations, unable to escape.

Thinking this way hurt her heart; if she didn’t know him, she could be indifferent. But she did know him, such a vibrant person, such a wonderful person. Was he truly going to die in those conspiracy schemes, to be absent from this world in the time to come?

She wanted him to live, to live well, but Mo Qingfeng said she wasn’t the right person, she couldn’t save him!

So he was also confused about her resistance, her avoidance—was it because of Huangfu Jingchen’s identity, or because she wasn’t the one who could save him!

Yet, when she told him Mo Qingfeng’s two methods, despite being outwardly calm, she felt a sting in her soul!

Actually, she did care. Actually, she couldn’t be so ruthless. Actually, she wasn’t someone who could wave away emotions without leaving a trace; she had left her heart there!

Her initial intent was for Huangfu Jingchen to marry a girl who could save him, to live well. Yes, she didn’t want him to die, she didn’t want him to disappear between heaven and earth as he had in the previous life.

Thus, for various reasons, she avoided, she retreated, she wanted to distance herself from the turbulent Capital City, to distance herself from any potential troublemakers!

But was it fair to Huangfu Jingchen if she really made such a decision?

Back then in Jianghu, neither of them revealed their true identities, which meant nothing to strangers; the person she fell for at that time wasn’t simply because of the person in front of her?

Why did she care about his identity after falling for him?

She became increasingly indecisive and hesitant, unlike her previous life’s iron-blooded slaughter and crisp decisiveness, or her current life’s business battlefield’s resolute and straightforward decision-making.

The root cause was probably because she couldn’t actually treat herself as a tool; she also felt pain, she also couldn’t bear it!

Her cold and heartless departure wasn’t fair to Huangfu Jingchen, was it?

Huangfu Jingchen had done nothing wrong; if he did, it was simply because he fell for her. At this moment, the layers of disguise and barriers within her heart were being destroyed, collapsing layer by layer, no longer existing...

Looking at the young man in front of her, Xia Wenjin’s feigned toughness softened. She hesitantly returned, walking to the young man’s side, slightly tilting her head up to meet his eyes, she asked, ”Huangfu Jingchen, are you afraid of death?”

Huangfu Jingchen shook his head. What was there to fear about death? If Wenjin left, he would already be living a fate worse than death!

Xia Wenjin continued, ”You might face some bad events in the future, maybe escape death, maybe not. If you can’t escape, your life will end; are you afraid?”

Huangfu Jingchen shook his head, ”I’m not afraid!”

Looking into his eyes, Xia Wenjin spoke again, ”If being with me will bring trouble, serious trouble, maybe even life-threatening danger, are you afraid?”

How could Huangfu Jingchen not hear the subtle shift in Xia Wenjin’s tone?

The overwhelming joy had enveloped him entirely. He reached out to take her hand, resolutely saying, ”No trouble scares me—not even death. What trouble would I fear?”

His hand enveloped in a pair of warm hands, Xia Wenjin felt the dampness in his palm, realizing just how nervous he was earlier.

Her heart softened even more, mixed with a sense of guilt; she only thought of herself, thought of Haotian Village, but she hadn’t considered Huangfu Jingchen. Perhaps, she was too selfish!

The joy in the young man’s eyes seemed to burn and melt away everything, so genuine, so unguarded, so overwhelming, warming Xia Wenjin’s heart.

Indeed, she was too selfish; in truth, how little did the person before her want!

Just a promise from her was enough to make him so joyful, so excited!

Her heart surged with excitement as well, disregarding worries, fears, panic, avoidance, retreat... letting all these concerns go to hell!

In the young man’s gentle sea of gaze, she was drowning, sensing Huangfu Jingchen’s joy, but she had to force herself to remain calm.

She calmly said, ”Give me some time, once I’ve persuaded my father and uncles to return to Haotian Village, you may come to propose.” When she mentioned the word ’propose,’ a blush appeared on her face, like peach blossoms blooming, exceedingly beautiful.
