Avoiding Death in an Otome Game

Chapter 24: Chapter- 24: Danger Level

”Maya, do you like something among these? I will buy it for you”

Elena asked Maya as she gestures towards all the ornaments.

The Elena in front of me seems so different from the one from the game.

In the game, she had become a strict noble lady because she was forced into learning the royal etiquette for several years. Being pressured to suppress her dreams and ambitions, she became a very selfish person in the game.

But Elena in reality isn’t like that.

She cares for her friends and family. And also treats people fairly regardless of their social status.

Of course, as long as you don’t get into her nerves, because angry girls are always scary.

”Thank you for your consideration my lady but I am not comfortable with magic tools”

”Mm....then I will buy you something else, let’s find something good for you”

...

We went around quite a few places and Elena finally picked a really cute looking apron for Maya.

Despite how Maya always acts as an upright mature lady, she really likes cute things.

I also packed some tasty snacks for Dalas who were waiting for us in the carriage.

The poor guy lost his chance to see his crush trying cute aprons. I will have to help him somehow so he can make some progress before someone else takes his crush away.

We returned to the carriage while I was still thinking about this.

”You are finally back! I was getting really bored”

Dalas said with an exasperated sigh.

”We were just tasting some good food to pack for you”

I handed over the package of snacks to him.

Just as we were about to get in the carriage, I felt a weird chill run down my spine.

”What happened?”

Elena asked me as I nervously looked around, and I was not the only one.

I noticed some other people are reacting the same way but all of them are either middle age or look like veteran adventures.

”Did any of you feel something now?”

Three of them shook their heads.

Then why did I?.....oh right, mental strength!

Yes, among the four of us only I have mental strength at the final stage of Spirit Lake.

Dalas’s mental strength should be at the high stage, and Maya’s should be around low or mid stage.

Elena’s mental stage should also be rearing at the high stage of Spirit Lake.

Then all these people who reacted like me should have the same or higher level of mental strength.

But what was that just now? What can be the cause?

”Let’s take our leave from here.”

I said as I urged Elena to get into the carriage.

Since the circus incident, I have started to trust my gut feeling.

[Author: maybe the truck-kun that killed him was radioactive, lol]

.....

Next day;

Right now, I am enjoying my tea in the garden.

Yesterday, after the marketplace, we visited a few other places and finally returned home around evening.

Thankfully, nothing bad happened.

But I noticed some mild disturbance in the city. There were more knights in the evening than usual.

Not like it concerned me but I still can’t understand the reason behind that sudden uneasiness yesterday.

”Kai, I think you should refrain from going out for a few days, at least until the school starts”

My mother suddenly brought a topic that further increased my uneasiness.

”What’s the matter, did something happen in the city?”

”You are already big enough so I will not hide it from you. Yesterday an evil magic user was apprehended in the city”

An evil magic user! In the capital!

What the heck is wrong with this city!?

First a human trafficking circus and now an evil magic user randomly appearing in the streets. And not to forget another one in the Royal magic academy.

”Where exactly was it caught?”

I asked her nervously.

”Huh? Around ’Golden Gate’, why do you ask?”

”Yesterday, we were in the marketplace not far from ’Golden Gate’, and for just a small moment I had a really eerie feeling and not just me, but I also noticed some other people having the same reaction”

I honestly explained everything to Mother.

”Indeed, it might be because that evil magic user leaked out an evil aura. I heard that it was of ’C’ level danger, maybe he was not good in concealment”

The ’Danger level’ of an evil magic user is equivalent to the rank of the adventurers team requires to successfully subdue it.

There are three institutions that can assign the danger level, those are adventurers guild, church and a nation.

’C’ level danger means it was stronger than an average ’C’ rank adventurer.

Although I can definitely survive against him but I am still not strong enough to defeat such a foe.

Of course these are humanly assigned ranks and sometimes can be wrong. One thing is clear, the evil magic user in the academy excels in concealment and disguise and is probably stronger than this one.

I will have to grow stronger!

At least, I will have to gain the power to resist an evil magic user of ’B’ level danger before next year.

”Remember Kai, evil magic users are a threat to society. They are like wild beasts in the disguise of humans”

I nodded as mother explained it to me.

If only I could tell her about the evil magic user in the academy but even if I try then how am I supposed to explain all that to her?

I don’t even know the true identity of that evil magic user myself. I should first find out its identity before involving my family.

I let out an internal sigh.

Oh I completely forgot!

”Mother, I bought a magic tool yesterday. How is it?”

I gave her the ’Will Arrow’.

As a grand mage of wind attribute, she can give the most accurate evaluation of this tool.

She took the arrow and closely examined it from all the angles and also by magic.

”It is a good thing, although it might not be usable for others but it’s completely suitable for you.”

”It has a mark engraving function, so only you will be able to use it after engraving your mark.”

Mother said as she guided me to engrave my magic mark on the ’Will Arrow’. First I need to use a drop of my blood imbued with wind magic.

Then I released my mental power through my ’Horizon Eye’ and imbued a mental mark on the ’Will Arrow’.

The arrow was already cleaned off of the marks of its previous owners through ’silver water’, a cleansing substance.

Now only I can use this arrow unless it gets clean again in ’silver water’ following the same method.

”Now try using it.”

I nodded at her words as I used my mental power to feel the connection with the arrow.

The arrow which was laying on the table started flouting. It is difficult to control it purely from the mental power from the get go so I used hand gestures.

The arrow flew in the direction I pointed my hand towards.

I moved my hand around and let the arrow follow those signals through mental power. The arrow made an arc, accurately piercing through the branch of a tree I aimed it at.

Heading my command, the arrow returned to me but I had to use some mental pressure to stop it.

Though it has great piercing power but I need to work on its control, otherwise it may hurt me instead.

But if used correctly, then this thing can help me even in fighting against a ’B’ rank adventurer.
