Avoiding Death in an Otome Game

Chapter 4: Chapter - 4: Dungeon Exploration

Kai’s POV:-

”Match is over, Lady Elena couldn’t stop the attack so Lord Kai wins”

Cecil declared me the winner, of course it is taking into consideration that this is just a friendly sparring match so it’s better to end it before anyone gets injured.

”W-wait! I can still fight, I didn’t even use my strongest magic! ”

Elena doesn’t seem satisfied with it, and although it’s childish of her but I know she really might not have used her strongest move yet, but so did I.

”I am sorry but I can’t continue, maybe you held back lady Elena but I honestly used all my strength in that last attack because I believed it’s the only way I could win”

I decided to make an excuse to end this for now, I know it will make her angry but it’s better to have only minimum with her.

”Alright, but can you please spar with me again later”

”O-Okay”

Unexpectedly instead of getting angry, she made a request to spar again. She’s really a battle junkie.

”Next time I will not lose, I will definitely use my full power so also prepare yourself for it”

Elena declared with some emphasis, but isn’t this means that she admits her defeat this time?

”You were really impressive I didn’t expected that you can already use ’Vision’, if I am not wrong it was ’Wind Vision’ right?”

Marquis Mizo who just came along with my father and Allia, praised me and asked the question but there seems to be some motive behind his question.

”Yes, it was ’Wind Vision’ mother taught it to me”

Realizing his intention I replied with context, I know why he asked that.

”So just a while ago you were saying you trained Kai in magic, weren’t you Lord Yude? ”

Since Marquis Mizo already lost the bet, he just wanted to take on something so father can’t boast about it.

. I couldn’t help but chuckle on their meaningless acts.

”Why they keep forgetting their position as Marquis?”

I heard Allia muttering, she must be getting irritated by their ’games’.

”Since the matter is already settled let’s start planning for the exploration”

Father cutted to chase, since he won the bet he’s the one leading the planning and the exploration. This is my chance.

”Father, I also wants to join the exploration”

I expressed my wish, it was the very reason I tag along with father.

It’s not easy to get opportunity to enter a dungeon, and with a expert team at that. Means risk will be minimum.

”I-I also want to go”

Before father could answer me, Elena also added her request. This girl just wants to battle, doesn’t she?

.......

It’s been a whole day since the sparring match. Everyone took their rest in the mansion and now we are ready for the exploration.

It took a while to convince father to let me join the exploration but surprisingly as soon as I got the permission, Elena also got the permission to join.

Allia declined the chance, saying she wants to rest but actually she just wants to avoid getting involved in any bet.

”When will we reach there?”

We are in a carriage, there are just four people inside this carriage, both the Marquises, Elena and me. The knights and the hired adventures are on their horses.

”Don’t be impatient Elena, we are just about to arrive”

Marquis Mizo replied to Elena, honestly being a first time even I am excited so it’s obviously more exciting for Elena who’s the only real kid here.

”We have reached the destination, Mylord”

The carriage stopped and we heard Sir Cecil’s voice. He is the leader of the exploration this time, two Marquis are here to just supervise.

We got out of the carriage. All of us are already clad in high quality leather armor with metal plates protecting the vitals.

Elena and I also have real staffs instead of the wooden ones we used for the sparring match. Since our opponents are gonna be only monsters and magic beasts so there’s no need to hold back.

”Now I’ll show you my full power, you also shouldn’t hold back Lord Kai”

Looks like she figured out that I lied yesterday, her enthusiasm is on another level compared to yesterday and even compared to the game.

Well in the game she was already a mature lady, but that’s just because of how she was taught.

Come to think of it, the first ’event’ will happen two years from now which includes the heroine, the main capture target and the villainess.

It’s where a misunderstanding happened which pulled Elena into the game plot.

Forget about that, it has nothing to do with me anyway. I put the thought aside for now. It’s better to focus on the current situation.

Under Cecil’s lead we entered the dungeon, actually we are walking far behind the main team with only our father and two knights who are here to protect us.

Yes, we are being sheltered, it’s evident that they don’t want to put us at any risk but how am I supposed to gain any experience like this? It’s not like I have never seen a dead magic beast before, I am here to see their combat style and learn from it.

Anyway, it’s been over an hour since we entered the dungeon and there’s not a single monster in our sight. Just as I was losing interest, the main team in front of us stopped.

”Here’s a big chamber room down there, everyone be careful!”

I heard Cecil’s warning, but a chamber room? In a cave inside a mountain? Which civilisation made it? Suddenly too many questions popped up in my head.

It was said that ”The Holy Maiden” was an otome game but its sequel ”The Holy War” that was supposed to be released two years later, is an adventure based game. Unfortunately I died before even its trailer could be released.

I’ll have to beware about this place, this very well can be one of the locations in the sequel. And if there’s a game location so there can be rewards as well.

Of course safety first. I don’t want any game rewards on the cost of our lives.

The main team entered the chamber room as I was thinking about all these things. We eventually followed after them. It was a quiet and dark place but we already had our fire torches ready and also a fire magic user in our team.

Let’s see what’s in this chamber of secrets. The chamber was huge, and there seems to be a gate ahead that connects to another chamber.

Suddenly all the knights took a fighting stance, I used my ’Wind Vision’ to see what happened, and I saw dozens of small shadows flying towards us from the room ahead.

When they passed through the gate we could see their clear appearance. They are bats but not ordinary bats, they are monster bats over 70 centimeters in height with pitch black bodies and very long fangs, their ears are also much longer than normal bats and they has blood red eyes.

’Phantom Bat’ monsters with dark attribute poison, their elemental power is weak but they are deadly for normal humans. Such a large group can be a big trouble for the citizens if not handled immediately.

The main team quickly engaged in assault against the phantom bats while the two knights protecting us took a defensive stance.

The team under Cecil’s lead are finishing off the bats very fast but even more bats keep coming out of the gate. One of such bats escaped through the assault and headed towards us, so the knights drew their swords.

”Father, may I?”

I asked my father for permission to deal with the bat.

Unexpectedly my father easily accepted my request. Maybe he also wanted to give me some 1st hand experience.

The phantom bat reached us at that time. Though it was flying, so I first used ’Gale’ to fly or more like jump near it and swang my staff in a circular arc.

Just as expected, the phantom back fly back to dodge the staff but as soon as it did, the arc into a wind slash and cut the bat in half.

I landed smoothly with the support of ’Gale’. Although Gale is usually seen as a basic magic spell, it’s actually one of the foundations of wind magic. After getting my attributes the first thing I focused on is mastering this spell and all the techniques related to it.

Luckily I have the blood and guidance of one of the strongest wind magic users in the east, my mother the Marchioness Kira Shen.

I have already mastered all the basic and some mid level techniques of this line and will continue until I completely mastered high level techniques as well but it may take several years.

I have just backed down when another phantom bat flew out in our direction, are you deliberately letting them go Cecil?

”I’ll handle this”

Elena declared and lifted her staff. Her father also didn’t stop her instead he said something absurd.

”Elena, only two moves”

Elena also nodded like she was also thinking the same. Maybe she inherited her competitive attitude from her father?
