THE GOD EATER

His eyes were shining as he said. “That means that the golden divine being must be dead. Does that mean I am strong enough to kill divine beings now?”

While he was asking himself existential questions, Fenrir had already rushed into the sky. The goal of this gluttonous puppy was as clear as day.

Fenrir opened his mouth and spat out a black blanket that rushed to cover the golden crystal. But as the black blanket approached the golden crystal, it began to shake.

Fenrir was unwilling to give up, so it pushed the black blanket forward. This insistence caused the black blanket to begin to crack.

As soon as the first crack appeared, Loki felt a terrible pain lance through his head. It was as if someone had stuck a knife into his brain.

The more cracks appeared, the greater the pain he felt. This pain made him quickly take back the power of his Mental World that he lent to Fenrir.

Without the black blanket to bear the brunt of the resistance of the golden crystal, all of the resistance fell on Fenrir. In just one second, Fenrir cracked and shattered. Then his shattered body was shattered again and again until he was nothing but dust.

Loki’s eye narrowed when he saw this. He also sighed in relief and said, “Fortunately, I didn’t let my greed blind me.”

He is already half blind. This was because whatever had damaged his Mental World had also damaged one of his eyes.

The eye in question has lost vision and is cracked. Blood is also leaking from the damaged eye.

His other eye is fairly better. Aside from the blood tear at the corner of his eye, he can still see through it.

As for the damage to his Mental World, it is not permanent. But for now, the glowing mark on his forehead has dimmed in brightness. Its brightness won’t be restored until he has restored his injuries.

It is clear that if he had let his greed make him approach the golden crystal instead of sending Fenrir, his greed would have truly blinded him. Something worse might have also happened to his Mental World.

He was grateful for Fenrir’s sacrifice, but he wasn’t reconciled to the turn of events. His heart was full of unwillingness as he said, ’I killed him, so I should be able to get my loot. What else do I have to do to get my loot?’

He was racking his brain about what to do when a surprised voice said, “Heh? Someone died? Who died?”

Another person said, “It is Golden Body. This place reeks of his slimy merchant aura.”

Then a third voice said, “It has been a long time since one of us died. Who killed him?”

The speakers of the voices were invisible to Loki, so it seemed like the voice was coming from the sky. And because the voices were as loud as thunder, it appeared that thunderclouds were talking to each other.

He wasn’t the only mortal who had seen the pillar, and he wasn’t the only one who was hearing the voices in the sky. The voices were reverberating throughout the Central Domain so nearly everyone could hear them. But only the rank 5 cultivators dared to appear and rise into the air.

Most peculiar was that only rank 5 money cultivators rose into the air and approached the golden crystal. Loki was looking forward to seeing what they wanted to do when he heard that last line full of unfortunate words.

When Loki heard them ask about who had killed Monarch Golden Body, he knew that it was time to leave. He was reluctant to leave as he hadn’t gotten anything from killing the golden divine being, but he couldn’t afford to wait anymore lest he be unable to leave later.

So he severed the connection between his Mental World and his body. Then he activated the Rewind Metac to make his great escape.

On his way through the River of Time, he thought back to what had just happened. Then he thought about the divine position and why he failed to grab it.

As thoughts of various kinds swept through his mind, he said to himself, ’It is honestly surreal. I expected him to take a beating with that attack, but I didn’t want him to shatter and die just like that.’

’And when he died, he didn’t leave anything behind for me. I have to blame the red lightning for this, not him, though. I am sure he would have wanted to leave something behind for me if he could.’

The memory of that golden crystal surged through his mind and made him say, ’That is a divine position. According to Lady Red, I need a specific key to gain access to it. Unfortunately, that key was lost when the golden man died.’

’Maybe if I didn’t use the red lightning, his Divine Metac wouldn’t be destroyed, and my mark would be able to seal it and grab it for my use. With the Divine Metac on hand, I will have the key to access the golden crystal.’

As his thoughts swept in this direction, his eyes lit up with expectations. And as soon as he finished this train of thought, he said to himself, ’In that case, I must have another go at him. I can’t just let his death be in vain.’

He decided to have another try at taking over the divine position of a divine being, so he made sure to stop his ride through the River of Time very early.

When he returned to the physical world, he found himself at the Central Market looking around for high-grade energy stones to exchange for. He didn’t put a stop to this and instead continued it.

He went along with the plan he initially laid out and created many vessels for Fenrir, including one with a power output of 15 million units. Then he let it loose and let it destroy the city.
