THE GOD EATER

Since he has to get a living heart of a world for himself and since Fenrir isn’t picky about what he eats to expand his existence and improve his cultivation like before, he can go about eating everything he encounters on his quest to secure the living heart of a world.

Because of these things, he didn’t have any reason to reconsider his decision to go to the Heavenly Battlefield. In just a few seconds, he finished signing up and was ready to do battle.

Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t assigned to his previous Heavenly Battlefield. This was because the slots for that Heavenly Battlefield had already been filled.

In fact, things were worse than that. He wasn’t actually assigned to any Heavenly Battlefield. What the sect did was to put him on a wait list of rank 5 cultivators who would be assigned when a slot opened up.

The sect gave him an explanation for this. They said it was because there were too many rank 5 cultivators signing up for the Heavenly Battlefield, but very few Heavenly Battlefields for them to fight in.

He was placed at number 6 on the list. So he won’t be assigned to the next Heavenly Battlefield either. Not unless three out of the five people above him became unavailable.

This made him scratch his chin and say, “If only I knew who these three people were and where they are, I could eliminate them and create space for myself.”

Then he shook his head and said, “Even if I know their identities, it will still be difficult to eliminate them because I will have to find them first. Even divine beings who hate rank 5 cultivators so much can’t find all of them to get rid of them, so how can I manage it?”

If he were a Seer, he could give finding the three rank 5 cultivators and killing them a shot. But even after going through so much effort and succeeding in killing them, there would still be five people above him to replace the three that were killed.

All he will receive for his effort will be a lot of debt for killing three rank 5 cultivators of his sect and one month less time of waiting. Then he will have to reverse time one month later in order to avoid paying the debt to the sect, which will only delay him.

This underwhelming reward and the fact that he didn’t need to be familiar with the small world to tear it apart made him give up on eliminating the three rank cultivators that he knew.

So, for now, unless the people above him become too busy with one thing or another, he will have to wait for at least three months before he can participate in any Heavenly Battlefield.

Since he couldn’t rush things, he decided to check out the other things that he could do as a rank 5 cultivator of the sect. Since rank 5 cultivators were so powerful, he expected them to be very useful to the sect.

So he expected to see a lot of missions for rank 5 cultivators. As it turned out, he was right to expect this.

He found a lot of missions for the sect that involved hunting other rank 5 cultivators who had broken a rule of the sect or refused to pay their debts. He also saw a lot of missions of people hiring rank 5 cultivators to help them kill other cultivators.

All of these missions rewarded merit points if they were set up by the sect. Or the reward for the missions would be a lot of money if they were set up by cultivators.

Since merit points are usually more valuable than money, the missions that were set up by the sect were usually in short supply and with higher demand than the missions that were set up by cultivators.

One of the missions that was set up by cultivators caught his eye, though. This was because it was set up by a divine being.

The mission description said, “You are invited to join a celebration of fighting prowess being held throughout the Blessed Heaven World. Come and fight with 99 other rank 5 cultivators from all five sects for a chance to earn a living world heart.”

“Come and display your prowess to a crowd of divine beings and use this to convince them of your worthiness to become a divine being yourself. Losers will die permanently with no chance of reincarnation, while the last man standing of the total 100 will have the opportunity to become a divine being.”

After he read this description, his lips curled, and he said, “So it is a battle royal. Not only will it entertain whoever set up this game, but it will also permanently eliminate 99 rank 5 cultivators.”

“The bait is obvious, and the danger is real. This thing is essentially using the possibility of becoming a divine being to eliminate 99 rank 5 cultivators. But who can resist?”

He checked to see how many divine beings had signed up for the battle royale. What he saw indicated that rank 5 cultivators weren’t fools.

Apparently, the mission had been up for more than a year, but only 11 people had signed up for it. So it can’t be said that rank 5 cultivators can be easily blinded by greed.

This made him shake his head and say, “What lucky ducks. They have something so good, yet they hesitate at the doorstep of greatness.”

“It is a pity that I can’t take this invitation and partake in the opportunity to become a divine being. It is truly a pity.”

While most rank 5 cultivators thought that this opportunity was a pitfall and refused to go near it with a stick, he felt that this opportunity was tailor-made for him. This is because he is not afraid of death like other cultivators. In fact, he looks forward to deadly and dangerous situations if they can provide meaningful benefits that will make the risk of death worth it.
