The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Just as Jiang An was about to lean down to adjust the microscope focus and observe the microscopic structure of the bone, the automatic door of the lab suddenly emitted a ”beep” recognition sound.

Immediately, the lab door slid open to both sides.

The young forensic assistant almost rushed in, holding two sheets of A4 paper in hand.

”Mr. Jiang!”

”We’ve used time series analysis and multivariate regression models to digitize all of Chuan City’s climate data from the past five years.”

He quickly walked over to Jiang An, pointing at the densely packed graph on the paper.

”Look, this is the daily average temperature fluctuation curve, this is the relative humidity line chart, and at the bottom is the wind speed vector graph...”

”We even included weighting coefficients for sunshine duration and precipitation.”

As Jiang An took the documents, he could feel the residual warmth from the printer with his fingertips.

He quickly scanned the data, accurate to two decimal places.

”Excellent!”

Jiang An nodded, his voice contained a suppressed excitement.

The young forensic expert adjusted his glasses and pointed to the data table, saying, ”According to the literature, the degradation rate of bones in soil is exponential with temperature.”

”We specifically marked the temperature and humidity spikes during the monsoon season each year. These time points may leave unique microbial erosion marks on the bone surface.

”Mr. Jiang, last week the journal ’Forensic Science’ just published an article mentioning that under constant temperature and humidity conditions, the degradation rate of collagen in bones can be quantified.”

.......

Meanwhile, in the parking lot outskirts of Chuan City.

Two investigation teams sent by Wang Yang were conducting measurement work in a tense and orderly manner.

Dusk was falling, and the strong lights from the searchlights made the two involved trucks appear as if it was daytime.

The first team members were carefully investigating Wang Ming’s truck, and the measurement devices in their hands emitted a rhythmic ”beep beep” sound, which was especially clear in the silent parking lot.

Suddenly, a young officer who was recording at the front of the truck stumbled with his right foot, reflexively grabbing the bumper, but upon close inspection, he discovered an abnormal dent.

”Leader!”

The officer’s voice trembled slightly due to excitement, ”Look at this spot!”

He pointed to a subtle dent on the right side of the bumper, ”This dent is very noticeable, and the surface paint has slight peeling marks.”

Li Guang heard the call and quickly came over, pulling out a strong flashlight from his pocket, the beam sweeping back and forth across the metal surface.

The dent reflected irregular shadows, and Li Guang’s brows furrowed deeper and deeper.

”You’re right!”

Immediately, Li Guang squatted down, his finger gently tracing the edge of the dent.

”This deformation feature is very typical.”

”Look at the force direction...”

He pulled out a tape measure, measuring, ”The depth of the dent is about 2.3 centimeters, with a diameter of about 15 centimeters.”

The team leader spoke while signaling the nearby recorder to take photos, ”Based on the rules of physical contact deformation, this center dent with radiating cracks at the edges is likely the initial impact point.”

”Immediately photograph and fixate this area.”

Instantly, everyone began to bustle about.

Li Guang then pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

The remark ”Mr. Wang” on the screen was particularly noticeable in the night.

The phone had just rung twice when it was answered, and Wang Yang’s slightly hoarse voice came through the receiver.

”How’s it going?”

”Any discoveries?”

At that moment, Wang Yang was sitting alone in a smoke-filled office, the ashtray piled with cigarette butts, and the case files on the desk were scattered messily.

As the team leader of the special case group, the continuous 48 hours of high-intensity work made his temples throb slightly, but the critical evidence of the case remained like a lighthouse in the fog, faintly visible.

”Mr. Wang!”

Li Guang’s voice was raised a few notches due to excitement.

”We’ve discovered a distinctly marked dent on the lower right front of Wang Ming’s vehicle, with an initial depth measurement exceeding 2 centimeters.”

He paused, using the flashlight to confirm the dent’s shape again.

”This deformation feature fits the mechanical traits of a rounded blunt object hitting at high speed, I suspect...”

”Is it a human impact?”

Wang Yang suddenly extinguished the cigarette in his hand, ash spilling onto his crumpled shirt.

The office’s air conditioning emitted a muffled operation sound, unable to dispel the fine sweat beads on his forehead.

”Analyzing from the degree of deformation, this possibility is very high!”

Li Guang’s voice accompanied the noisy background sound of on-site investigation.

”We’ve completed preliminary evidence collection and are conducting trace evidence extraction.”

”This impact point’s position and height...”

A gust of wind blew through, with the sound of papers flipping heard over the phone.

”Matches perfectly with the height data of the victim.”

Wang Yang’s fingers unconsciously tapped the table, the rhythm growing faster and faster.

Outside, night had fully descended, and the city’s neon lights cast shifting shadows on the glass window.

”Send the scene photos back immediately!”

Wang Yang’s voice was slightly hoarse due to restrained excitement.

After hanging up the phone, to further verify his inner thoughts, Wang Yang immediately dialed the phone of the second investigation team.

The background sound on the other end was equally noisy, faintly hearing the crisp sound of metal striking. ”Hello, Zhang, how is the progress on your side?”

”Mr. Wang!”

The voice of the young officer accompanied by panting sounds, seemingly moving position.

”We’ve completed comprehensive scanning of the front, including laser 3D imaging and trace evidence collection.”

An electronic sound of the instrument starting was heard on the other end of the line.

”Currently, we can confirm there are no deformation marks on the front, and paint analysis found no abnormalities.”

”Alright! Thanks for your hard work! Ensure the investigation is thorough and meticulous!”

Wang Yang rubbed his sore eyes and turned to Zhou Yong, who had been silently observing all along.
