The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

The officer pushed a meteorological report in front of her, ”The visibility monitoring data on that night showed the minimum was 50 meters, completely within the safe driving range.”

”What I want to remind you is, honesty leads to leniency, resistance leads to severity.”

”If it’s just this traffic accident, it can indeed be classified as negligence.”

”But if you deliberately hide other circumstances...”

The officer paused meaningfully, ”The nature is completely different.”

”You’re still young, don’t ruin your future just because of a moment’s confusion.”

”I swear!”

Wang Ming suddenly raised his head emotionally, his eyes reddening, ”Apart from that accident, I truly have no other traffic violations! You can check my driving records, check the surveillance!”

”The investigation work we will naturally conduct.”

The officer’s tone slightly softened, ”But as law enforcement, I hope to give you a chance to voluntarily explain.”

”We are ordinary people too, understanding that everyone makes mistakes. What’s important is...”

He looked Wang Ming straight in the eye, ”Your parents are still waiting for you at home, your wife calls every day inquiring about the situation.”

”Making mistakes is not scary, what is scary is going further down the wrong path.”

...

Meanwhile, in the data analysis room, two forensic assistants were strenuously moving in meteorological file materials.

When the two placed the materials on the table, everyone was stunned!

”My heavens!”

Wan looked at the pile of data like a small mountain and couldn’t help but say, ”Did the meteorological bureau bring records from nearly ten years ago?”

Zhang Yean casually flipped open the top book, smiled bitterly and shook her head, ”With this amount, just the preliminary screening might take two or three months.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An walked over, picked up several documents casually to browse, and showed a look of appreciation.

”Didn’t expect Chuan City’s meteorological bureau’s work to be so meticulous.”

”Looks like the data we need is all here!”

”Not only data,”

Wan wiped his sweat, ”they not only recorded conventional indicators like temperature, humidity, wind speed every hour, but also completely preserved parameters like PM2.5, UV index, atmospheric pressure.”

”Some stations even retained real-time monitoring data every minute.”

Jiang An quickly browsed through several pages, nodded, ”Indeed very comprehensive.”

”However, we only need temperature and humidity data for crucial time periods, extracting samples at two-hour intervals can greatly improve efficiency.”

”Understood!”

Another assistant immediately responded, ”We’ll input these data into Excel right away and establish a time sequence database.”

”Very good.”

Jiang An added, ”After inputting, first do a trend analysis to see if any meteorological change pattern characteristics can be found.”

After the two assistants left following orders, Wan turned thoughtfully to Jiang An, ”Is it really possible to pinpoint the specific time of death through meteorological data analysis?”

”Skeletonized bodies are usually hard to determine accurately...”

”Theoretically feasible.”

Jiang An picked up a report and explained, ”Although the body is completely skeletonized, the weathering degree of the bones is closely related to the local climate characteristics.”

”Particularly temperature and humidity changes will directly affect the decomposition rate of bones.”

Zhang Yean walked over and joined the discussion, ”Indeed an innovative idea.”

”Compared to solely relying on forensic expertise judgment, incorporating meteorological data analysis makes the conclusions more scientifically reliable.”

During the conversation, Jiang An had already put on rubber gloves and began conducting a detailed examination of the skeleton.

He picked up a power saw, signaling Wan to hold the femur stable.

”Keep it steady, I want to take a bone sample for microscopic analysis.”

As the sound of the saw teeth against the bone material echoed, a faint smell of bone powder permeated the laboratory.

Their actions were professional and in harmony, soon obtaining a bone fragment sample about 2 square centimeters in size.

Jiang An placed the sample into a special container, carefully observing the texture characteristics of the cutting surface under the light.

Seeing this small piece of gray-white bone fragment, Jiang An cautiously used tweezers to pick it up, utilizing the laboratory’s bright light to observe its surface characteristics.

Bone texture structure, distribution proportion of compact and spongy bone, and degree of osseous...

”Senior sister, please pass the mortar.”

Jiang An spoke without lifting his head, simultaneously taking a new pair of rubber gloves from the laboratory table to replace.

After Zhang Yean placed the mortar well, he carefully placed the piece of bone into it.

”Should we segment this bone into multiple pieces and grind them?”

Wan suggested, ”This can increase grinding efficiency.”

Jiang An shook his head, picked up the pestle and began grinding slowly yet evenly.

”No need, the ossification of this type of bone is already quite high, look at the bone trabecula’s arrangement density and degree of calcification, a slight grind should quickly turn it into powder.”

As the pestle moved, fine bone powder began adhering to the inner wall of the mortar.

”After grinding, turn it into a slide, observing under a high-power microscope.”

”Can this see patterns too?”

Wan leaned in closer to observe curiously.

Jiang An paused his actions, pointed to the mortar, and explained, ”Normal bones are calcium structures, but if we infer based on particle form, degree of differentiation, and microscopic structure characteristics after bone grinding, it can fully deduce pattern changes.”

Standing aside, Wan couldn’t help but laugh, ”If you can deduce this, I think you can definitely apply for a patent.”

”This bone analysis method is definitely a breakthrough in the forensic field.”

”When applying for a patent, we’ll co-sign.”

Jiang An joked lightly, yet his hands didn’t pause in motion.

”Haha!”

Wan heartily agreed, ”Such high-tech identification method is definitely important for our criminal investigations.”

”If a complete skeletal analysis database can be established, it would greatly aid future case solving.”

Just as the words fell, Zhang Yean added, ”In this case, determining the time of death is crucial.”

”If the time of death and his disappearance are on the same day, it can mostly be concluded that the crime scene is the last tourist spot he appeared.”

”But if the time of death is several days after his disappearance, there may likely exist unknown abuse or captivity situations.”

Upon hearing this, Wan restrained his smile, his expression turning solemn.

”Indeed, but the most tricky part of this case is that his skin and muscle tissue are missing, only these scattered bone fragments remain.”

Jiang An nodded, continuing to focus on grinding the bone piece, ”Don’t worry, I believe any case will be revealed eventually.”

After a pause, he added, ”By the way, remember to divide the ground bone powder into three parts, one for electron microscopy scanning, one for chemical analysis, and the last for backup.”

Meanwhile, in the interrogation room, Wang Yang and Zhou Yong were engaging in a new round of contest with Wang Ming.

The interrogation had lasted almost three hours, the air within the room seemed particularly oppressive.

Wang Yang loosened his tie, beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

”Wang Ming, I advise you to confess truthfully.”

Wang Yang slammed the table heavily, the sound echoing in the narrow interrogation room.

”We’ve gathered quite a bit of evidence.”

”Now giving you a chance is considering you’re young, there’s still room for maneuver!”

Zhou Yong adopted a gentle approach, pouring Wang Ming a glass of water, ”Young man, you’re still so young, life’s path is long ahead.”

”If it’s negligence causing death, confessing now can still seek leniency.”

”But if we confirm, the nature is different.”

Wang Ming kept his head down, his hands continuously rubbing, turning his knuckles white from exertion.

His forehead was similarly covered in sweat but maintained silence throughout.

”I... I truly don’t understand...”

Wang Ming finally spoke, his voice hoarse almost to the point of being inaudible, ”Why did you find me?”

”What’s this got to do with me? I’m just a small business owner...”

Wang Yang suddenly stood up, the chair scraping sharply against the floor.

”Still feigning ignorance?”

”Where were you on May 18th?”

”With whom were you?”
