The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

In the meeting room, the projector emitted a faint light, casting the scene’s photos onto the screen.

The previously murmuring room instantly fell silent, a solemn atmosphere permeating the air.

Chen Biao stood by the projector, his gaze shifting between the PPT and Jiang An, Wan, and Fang Yan.

At this moment, what was displayed on the PPT was the most original photo from the scene.

In the image, a mutilated body lay in a weed-covered clearing.

He paused briefly, ”We have used police dogs and drones to repeatedly search the surrounding area but have yet to find the victim’s head.”

A slight stir rose in the meeting room.

Chen Biao continued, ”Based on our previous discussions, we are currently inclined towards two possibilities.”

”First, this is a dismemberment case, and the murderer deliberately took the head.”

”Second, the head was taken by an animal. However, due to the lack of decisive evidence, we are temporarily unable to confirm.”

He displayed a map of the search area, marked with various signs.

”After the case was filed, we split into two groups: one investigating it as a murder case, the other considering it as an accidental event. But...”

His brows knitted, ”The confirmation of the victim’s identity has also reached a deadlock.”

”Personally, I believe,” Chen Biao’s voice grew firm, ”the possibility of an animal taking it is low.”

”Firstly, we found other remains within the same distance; secondly, if it were an animal, there should be more obvious dragging marks.”

He scanned the room, ”Therefore, I am more inclined to believe this was a premeditated murder.”

”Let’s look at the next photo.”

”The second photo shows detailed information about the clothing on the body.”

”After a thorough cleaning by the forensic team, it’s identifiable as a female corpse.”

Chen Biao explained, ”Although the clothes were badly damaged, remnants of female clothing like underwear can still be recognized, and their distribution is normal.”

”The forensic team’s preliminary judgment is that the victim did not suffer sexual assault before death, and the dying process might have been relatively calm.”

Next, a series of autopsy photos were displayed.

”We conducted a comprehensive examination of the bones,” Chen Biao’s voice turned professional and calm, ”Apart from marks of animal gnawing, no cuts from tools or signs of violent fractures were found on the bones.”

”Although the body was highly decayed, from the state of the bones, there were no obvious signs of external harm.”

Finally, he stated solemnly, ”More troubling is that we cannot determine if the location where the body was found is the primary crime scene.”

He shook his head helplessly, ”Currently, the investigation has reached a complete standstill.”

Just as Chen Biao was about to continue his report, Mr. Wang raised a hand indicating: ”The basic situation has been clearly introduced.”

He stood up, walked to the front of the projection, his gaze sweeping over the three experts present.

”Just now, Deputy Captain Chen Biao reported the basic situation of the case to the experts.”

”I would like to say a few words.”

”After this case occurred, we set up a special task force with extensive police involvement.”

”But neither the identification of the victim, the on-site investigation, nor the case linkage has made substantial progress.”

His voice was heavy and sincere, ”I wonder if the three experts have any suggestions after hearing the report?”

The meeting room fell silent again, everyone’s gaze focused like a spotlight on Jiang An, Wan, and Zhang Yean.

The air was suffused with a suffocating tension, even the sound of breathing was clearly audible.

”Are we starting right away?”

”No time for a buffer?”

Wan inwardly lamented, feeling a rush of blood to his head, his cheeks burning as if roasted by fire.

He instinctively tightened his grip on the notebook in his hand, his knuckles turning white from exertion.

From finding the case file to being asked to express an opinion, only thirty minutes had elapsed.

This case analysis’s pace was so fast it was almost suffocating.

At this moment, his mind was blank.

The densely packed case materials whirled chaotically before his eyes, with no clue to be found.

Sitting next to him, Zhang Yean was even more at a loss, nervously looking around, beads of sweat forming on her forehead.

Before this business trip, she joked with colleagues about going to Chuan City for ”tourism,” and solving a case for a glorious return.

Who would have thought this was not a light task?

It was clearly a meticulously arranged banquet of doom!

In stark contrast to their panic, Jiang An remained calm and composed, exuding reassurance.

He focused intently on the scene photos on the projection, as if the surrounding noise had nothing to do with him.

”Mr. Wang,” Jiang An suddenly spoke, his voice low and powerful, immediately capturing the room’s attention.

”Before expressing my views, I have a few questions to confirm.”

Mr. Wang gave a slight nod, ”Go ahead.”

”First, regarding the location of the body, can it be confirmed that it has remained completely stationary, with no signs of human movement?”

”Yes!” Mr. Wang picked up the thread of conversation.

”The scene photos taken when found completely match the actual situation, and the body’s position was undisturbed.”

Jiang An nodded thoughtfully, continuing to ask, ”Then, aside from the hand fractures and missing parts, are the other parts of the skeleton complete?”

This question made Mr. Wang hesitate for a moment.

He turned his head to the rear, ”This question should be answered by the forensic expert.”

At this point, a middle-aged man with black-framed glasses and a serious expression stood up.

He adjusted his glasses, his voice steady, ”Hello, leaders, I am Wang Yong, a forensic expert from Chuan City’s Criminal Investigation Team.”

He then turned his head to look at the projector.
