Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 247: Chapter 244 Investigating Qin Jian’s Background

”Okay. I promise you,” Ning Yibin nodded repeatedly.

Liang Manman looked at the white hair at Ning Yibin’s temples and the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, feeling a silent ache in her heart.

He must be around sixty, right?

He must have been no longer young when he had children back then.

Now an old man, having suddenly lost his son, he must be feeling very uncomfortable.

As Liang Manman stared at Ning Yibin, she suddenly found his face somewhat familiar, so she began to look at him more closely.

”Manman, what are you looking at? Staring at your elders without blinking isn’t a good habit,” Liang Shuai admonished her.

”Grandpa, I just realized something,” Liang Manman suddenly said.

”What is it?”

”Qin Jian looks a lot like Grandpa Ning!” Liang Manman said, imagining, ”If Qin Jian aged, he would probably look like this, right?”

Her remark made Zhang Yun suddenly look up; she felt the same way!

Qin Jian looked even more like Old Ning than Xiaobo did!

What was going on?

It seemed she really had to ask Old Ning to pay attention to this battalion commander!

If it were only his wife saying so, Ning Yibin might not take it seriously, but if Liang Manman, who only met him for the first time, also said they looked alike, then he certainly had to take notice.

Was it a coincidence, or what?

After returning from the Liang family, Ning Yibin didn’t go home but went straight to his office. His secretary brought him the day’s newspapers: ”Leader, here’s today’s news that you haven’t read yet.”

Placing the newspaper aside, Ning Yibin waved his hand at the correspondent, ”Xiaoliu, go help me pull up Qin Jian’s personal resume, and have it organized on my desk by tomorrow.”

”Yes! Leader!”

After Director Zhang left, in a short time, the events at the garrison became public, causing quite a stir throughout the village.

No one knew how the news spread, but everyone was gossiping about how the daughter of a TV station executive had taken a fancy to Qin Jian and was set on marrying him.

But Qin Jian wasn’t interested and preferred the youngest daughter of the An family instead.

As the talk spread from person to person, eventually, Qin Jian’s mother—Li Junping—heard of it, but by then the story had greatly changed.

Everyone said An Hao was manipulative, stealthily building a relationship with the research institute as soon as they arrived. Now that she would marry an engineer, she’d soon soar to great heights and become a phoenix.

Furthermore, that crafty girl had taken her brother to the garrison to team up and drive away the leader’s daughter.

Li Junping grew unsettled. Initially, she felt her son, an engineer, regarded the village girls as beneath him, thus delaying to find Qin Jian a match in the village and insisting he find a girl in the city.

Qin Jian’s temperament was indifferent, and he was a late bloomer in these matters, so he didn’t take it seriously either.

Later, because Qin Jian had saved Director Zhang’s son, Director Zhang and his wife were grateful and visited the village to see him and Qin Jian. The shrewd Li Junping didn’t accept any gifts, only imploring Director Zhang and his wife to help Qin Jian find a good match.

Therefore, Zhang Jianguo and his wife took this matter to heart and introduced several potential partners to Qin Jian. However, apart from the first one who lasted a bit longer, none could get along with him for more than a week.

If it wasn’t illness, it was some problem or another, and somehow the rumor that Qin Jian was jinxed with women spread inexplicably within his workplace.

Thus, Qin Jian’s marriage issues dragged on until he was thirty.
