Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 204: Chapter 203: The Old Witch’s Bad Idea

”Who knows. The village is so backward in thinking, any natural phenomenon that can’t be explained by science is claimed to be a ghost sighting,” Jian Ying said offhandedly, not taking it seriously at all.

There’s an old saying, ’Where there’s smoke, there’s fire,’ so there must be a reason why Qin Jian did what he did.

But for now, he didn’t have the time to think about the specific reasons.

Time was of the essence, and with so many tasks not even fully started, his main energy and mission were directing his colleagues from the subordinate units to work harder in order to complete this formidable task as soon as possible.

***************

Zhang Juyun was so scared she wet herself and was in a daze for an entire day until the village head brought a ghost exorcist from the neighboring village in the afternoon.

This ghost exorcist’s surname was Liu, known as Liu the Witch.

Liu the Witch entered the Song Family’s house and took a look at Zhang Juyun, diagnosing her with typical symptoms of shock.

However, in order to make money, Liu the Witch said she would hold a ceremony to catch the ghost, then set up an altar, brandished a peach wood sword while pretending to summon spirits, made a racket with a bell, and finally burned a charm she had drawn. She then mixed the incense ash and charm ash in water.

She handed the bowl of water to Zhang Juyun to drink.

Zhang Juyun was purely a victim of her own mind. Convinced the water could cure her, she gulped it down in one breath.

With the water downed, twenty years of scientific knowledge might as well have been for naught.

This once educated youth, had now descended to being one of the village’s ignorant old women.

Liu the Witch charged her twenty bucks, and with feigned concern asked, ”Has your family been having troubles lately?”

Zhang Juyun thought of her daughter’s fight with An Hao and the subsequent punishment from school, and replied, ”Yes, things at home haven’t been going smoothly. I don’t suppose you have any ideas to help resolve this, Liu the Witch?”

”Alright, tell me about it and let’s see how we can break this spell!”

Zhang Juyun secretly told Liu the Witch about An Hao and Song Yueqin, and Liu signaled her to send the village elders away. Then, making sure no one else was home, she said, ”I can break this for you, for another twenty bucks.”

Clamping her teeth, Zhang Juyun agreed, ”Done.”

For her daughter, for this family, what wasn’t she willing to do?

”Come on, take me to see that girl’s house,” said Liu the Witch.

”Okay,” Zhang Juyun and Song Yueqin took Liu the Witch to An Hao’s house in the stealth of late afternoon.

They couldn’t get into the courtyard, so Liu the Witch stood at the doorway, looking around for a while: ”Good Feng Shui! No wonder your daughter is doing so poorly now. This little girl’s ancestral home is a fine place; just look at those flourishing trees and the blooming peach blossoms, they’re signs of good fortune. Good fortune brings good Feng Shui, and this girl’s luck will prosper!”

These words were simply nonsense spouted by Liu the Witch!

If An Hao had heard this, she would definitely slap them both across the face. How could they say she was fortunate when the Song Family was constantly looking for trouble with her!

”Then break it,” Song Yueqin couldn’t stand the thought of An Hao having a single good day, envious that An Hao always seemed to outdo her.

Especially because An Hao was favored by Qin Jian!

This was what truly irked her.

”Alright, I’ll give you a method!” Liu the Witch whispered to Zhang Juyun as they walked away, ”It’s easy to break her streak of luck—just pour some filthy stuff on her threshold, oh, and on those two stone lions at the entrance as well.”

”Filthy stuff? You mean like urine and excrement?”

”Exactly. Remember, tonight at midnight,” Liu the Witch reminded her again.

As for whether it would work or not, who cared? After all, she had made her money.

Zhang Juyun and Song Yueqin listened as if they’d found a priceless treasure and etched the instructions deep into their hearts.
