Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 246: Chapter 243 Ning Family Couple

After returning to the city from the countryside, Liang Manman was brimming with anger.

As soon as she entered the house, she happened to encounter guests at home. Since she didn’t recognize them, she didn’t bother to greet and turned to walk upstairs.

”Manman!” Liang Shuai called out upon seeing his granddaughter return, ”How can you come back and not say hello? Didn’t you see we have guests? ”

Having climbed two steps, Liang Manman turned back down, obediently returned to Liang Shuai’s side and respectfully greeted, ”Grandpa!”

Liang Shuai nodded and introduced the couple sitting opposite on the sofa, ”That’s Grandpa Ning, Grandma Zhang. Your Grandpa Ning was a soldier back in the day, he was known for facing death on the battlefield, famously dubbed ’the Icy King of Hell’—he terrified the enemy! Grandma Zhang was known as the Flame Rose among the troops. Now your Grandpa Ning works in the province, and he’s praised as an excellent leader by everyone...”

After listening to her grandfather’s introduction, Liang Manman stepped forward politely to greet the Ning couple, smiling cheerfully, ”Hello, Grandpa Ning, Grandma Zhang.”

”Good, good, good!” Ning Yibin nodded repeatedly hearing this, ”This child is really well-behaved!”

”Yes, indeed, Old Liang, you’re truly blessed!” Zhang Yun looked at Liang Manman with eyes full of admiration.

”Hahaha! You don’t know, this girl has such a terrible temper! Just like her dad when he was young! She’s impatient and also very proud! It’s all my fault for spoiling her.” While Liang Shuai spoke of Liang Manman’s flaws, his face was filled with smiles.

”Grandpa,” Liang Manman moved a stool to sit next to Liang Shuai, hugging his sleeve and acting coquettishly, ”In front of Grandpa Ning and Grandma Zhang, could you save me some face? You’re always setting me up! You never say anything good about me to anyone, and because of that, I can’t even get married now!”

”Hahaha!” Liang Shuai was amused by Liang Manman’s words, patting her shoulder, ”You’re eager to get married now? Weren’t you saying you wouldn’t marry before? Now that you’ve met that Engineer Qin, you think about him all day long.”

”Engineer Qin?” Zhang Yun was particularly sensitive to this name. Previously, when Old Ning had a medical episode, it was this Engineer Qin who timely brought him to the hospital, preventing a tragedy.

Later, he and Old Ning had been trying to find this young man. They heard he went down to the countryside as a technical advisor and had not yet returned.

”Yes,” Liang Shuai said to Ning Yibin, ”I’ve heard good things about that young man from Jianguo, a real talent! I quite admire him; otherwise, I wouldn’t let Manman run wild.”

After speaking, he turned his head and asked Liang Manman, ”So, how was it? You went to see Qin Jian today, didn’t you? Get anything out of it?”

At the mention of this, Liang Manman pouted, and tears began to fall drop by drop: ”He has a fiancée now. He’s just a big jerk!”

Liang Shuai also expressed his regret after hearing this: ”What a pity! There’s nothing to be done, Manman, it’s just not your destiny!”

Liang Manman pouted and cried out, ”He’s already thirty, and I don’t mind his age. Why should he mind me? ”

”Thirty?” Zhang Yun asked, ”That Qin Jian is thirty?”

”Mm-hmm.” Liang Manman nodded with tears in her eyes.

Zhang Yun nodded thoughtfully: ”That’s the same age as Xiaobo.”

”Who’s Xiaobo?” Liang Manman asked, confused.

”Xiaobo is your Grandma Zhang’s only son; unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago due to an illness,” sighed Liang Shuai.

Mentioning Ning Bo’s name, Zhang Yun couldn’t help but shed tears.

Ning Yibin gently patted her hand to comfort her, ”Yunyun, don’t cry! Xiaobo just went to another world. He would feel sad if he sees you like this.”

Zhang Yun wiped away her tears and controlled her emotions as she said to Liang Shuai, ”Old Ning, promise me you will meet Qin Jian someday. I feel a sense of kinship whenever I see that company commander, and I feel like he resembles our Xiaobo.”
