Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 203: Chapter 202: Seeking Help at the Door

Look at them, giggling as they come back, Qin Jian casually asked, ”What were you doing out so late?”

”We went to buy some stuff in the village,” Tian Niu lied off the cuff.

”Accompany me for a night run!”

”No, no, no, I’m really tired today, want to sleep early.” Just finished some tiring work, can’t be with Qin at this time.

His eyes are like Sun Wukong’s fiery gaze, a few blinks and he knows what you’re thinking.

”You, sleeping early? That’s rare!” Qin Jian remarked, his gaze sweeping over the warriors following Tian Niu, ”And you?”

”Qin, we’re tired too.”

”Rest up early then,” Qin Jian left that remark and walked out with a towel slung around his neck.

Lin Chen watched Qin Jian’s retreating figure and couldn’t help but sigh, ”Qin’s energy is really something! Working during the day, and night running in the evening!”

...............

Early next morning, Qin Jian and the others had just gathered, ready to assemble the equipment on the school’s playground, after roughly installing it, they planned to transport it up the mountain.

No sooner had he given a few instructions, the village chief came running over.

”Qin, I need to talk to you about something.”

Qin Jian signaled to Jian Ying to continue speaking for him, then stepped out to talk to the village chief, ”Uncle Wang, you wanted to see me for something?”

After stuffing some tobacco into his dry pipe and lighting it, the village chief spoke, ”There were ghost disturbances in the village last night.”

”Ghost disturbances?” Qin Jian paused, then replied with a faint smile, ”Where do ghosts exist in this world? I’m an atheist!”

”Don’t be a disbeliever,” the chief took a deep drag and slowly exhaled two smoke rings, ”Yesterday, Old Song’s wife and daughter saw it. Oh, I mean Song Jincai’s wife and daughter.”

Qin Jian shook his head with a smile, ”Uncle Wang, I don’t believe it. Just tell me what you want from me.”

”Well, yes! It’s like this, I want all of you to move back to the village. After all, you all are mature men with strong yang energy, you could suppress the village’s malicious yin energy!” explained the village chief.

Qin Jian laughed heartily, ”Uncle Wang, we’re here to work, not to exorcise spirits. Besides, there are no ghosts in this world, we don’t believe in ghosts and gods. Moreover, it’s been quite an effort to settle everyone down; if we were to move again, it might delay the progress of our work.”

Seeing Qin Jian reluctant to agree, the village chief tried to persuade him, ”Qin Jian, look, you are all college-educated intellectuals, isn’t that right? Why don’t you stay in the village to see for yourselves? There are fewer people who have gone to school in the village, less knowledgeable, and everyone is talking about ghost spirits! Stay for a few days, see if they really exist, and explain it to them!”

”Uncle Wang, that’s not the issue,” Qin Jian thought about how to explain it to him.

”Why not? Jianzi, just tell me if you’ll go or not?” the village chief pressed, waiting for Qin Jian’s response.

”Village Chief Wang, if you want to catch ghosts, don’t you need an exorcist?” Jian Ying, after having assigned the work, letting them start assembling the equipment, overheard Village Chief Wang and Qin Jian’s conversation and chimed in to help defuse the situation.

With that suggestion, the village chief immediately felt he was barking up the wrong tree, ”That’s right. What you said makes sense, I should go find Half Immortal.”

So, he bade farewell to Qin Jian and shuffled off, muttering to himself.

”True to your nickname, Jian Fox,” Qin Jian raised an eyebrow at Jian Ying, ”but you’re an intellectual and a Party member, aren’t you promoting feudal superstitious beliefs here?”

”Haha,” Jian Ying laughed, ”This is called teaching according to their aptitude! Clearly, my words are more effective. Otherwise, were you really going to drag the team to the village?”

Qin Jian nodded, ”Indeed. Such beliefs aren’t formed in a day, nor can they be dispelled in a day. But... what’s this about a ghost disturbance?”
