Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 212: Chapter 211 Justice Resides in the Heart of Man

Bai Yanjiao pulled out a ten-yuan note and handed it to the sales clerk, while Bai Xue watched on the side, her heart aching, ”You’ve already spent half of your salary? That’s really expensive!”

”Mom, I made more this month because I made more clothes, my salary doubled this month,” Bai Yanjiao purposely raised her voice to make sure An Hao heard, ”My clothes are well-made, the workshop director said I might become the group leader.”

”Really?” Bai Xue was ecstatic, ”Then our family will have better days ahead.”

”Yeah,” Bai Yanjiao glanced at An Hao and curled her lip, ”So we won’t have to hear people say our mother and daughter are parasites, depending on others to live.”

”Who are parasites?” Bai Xue’s expression darkened as she spoke with an undertone, ”We, mother and daughter, are straightforward people. We deal with everything openly, not like some people who are too cunning. They make a big scene about moving, boasting about living on their own for long but what happens? They almost lose the house and land deeds, their household is stripped bare, and they even encourage their naive brother to keep taking food from home every day.”

”Isn’t that right?” Bai Yanjiao turned to the sales clerks, who were watching the excitement, and said, ”Don’t believe it? Go see for yourself, there’s nothing in my house now but a bare kang. She claims to support the family, but a student who doesn’t cost money is already good, not to mention making any money.”

”Enough, Yanjiao, don’t say any more. It makes us seem petty. Just keep a clear conscience, fairness lies within the hearts of people, and over time everyone will see what kind of person she is.”

”Exactly.”

The mother and daughter complemented each other in mocking An Hao, with their two mouths twisting right and wrong.

An Hao couldn’t care less about these two. After the previous clash, they had become much quieter, and now they were only trying to show off their verbal courage in front of her.

Besides, dirty laundry shouldn’t be aired in public!

Unless absolutely necessary, An Hao didn’t want to display her family’s trivial matters for the villagers to see, they weren’t exactly matters to be proud of.

In the end, it all boils down to the world being abuzz with gossip, and in any case, it’s just a matter of her father being mocked for being incompetent at keeping the family balanced.

”You two are not wrong, fairness resides in the hearts of the people, and the villagers are not blind. Everyone has an idea of who is in the right and who is in the wrong,” An Hao dropped a comment and headed outside.

She had no time today to waste on this mother and daughter; it was getting dark, and An Ping was clamoring for her to make pork intestine noodles today.

An Hao had salted the pork intestines An Ping had brought home recently because they couldn’t eat them all.

She had made pork intestine noodles for An Ping once before, and after eating them, he had been craving them ever since.

Now he had been hankering for them for the past couple of days, making sure she remembered to make pork intestine noodles tonight.

Pork intestines are a delicacy; if they’re prepared well, they’re exceptionally tasty and also beneficial for people with a weak stomach.

As soon as she got home, An Hao took advantage of the daylight to plant the vegetable seeds she had bought, then went to the kitchen to wash her hands and prepare to make noodles for An Ping.

Meanwhile, Bai Xue went home with her daughter Yanjiao and hurried into the east room to indulge in canned food, after which Bai Yanjiao brought out a box of fragrant goodies for Bai Xue to see.

”Mom, look what this is.”

Bai Xue took the item Bai Yanjiao offered, which was a beautifully packaged small box, exuding a delightfully fragrant aroma, so pleasant smelling.
