CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 1961: Chapter 1969: So What If That’s the Case

”After learning about the situation with you three, I not only investigated Jane Sampson, but also Julie Sampton, and also checked into your biological parents and their associates.”

Joseph Shaw sat down next to Jillian Carter, his voice low as he said, ”In the Chip Family, there’s an extreme preference for sons over daughters, with absolutely no sense of honor or shame. Back then, after unexpectedly being sent to the hospital and giving birth, Mother Chip secretly ran away with the child while the doctors and nurses were unaware, in order to escape the hospital fees.”

”So what?” Jillian Carter asked indifferently, ”What’s it got to do with me?”

”Julie is a girl. Mr. and Mrs. Chip didn’t care for her or show her any concern, and her grandparents also favored sons over daughters, never paying much attention to her. Since she became sensible, she had to help with farm work in the house, feed livestock and poultry, and by the age of four or five, she was already cooking meals for the family.”

These were the stories Joseph Shaw gathered from the mouths of people inside the village.

”Because she was never full as a child, Julie was always pale and underweight. At four or five, she looked only as tall as a three- or four-year-old child. The farm stove was high, and she had to stand on a chair to reach it, carrying a large, heavy iron pot almost her body weight to cook.”

”If she added too little oil and salt, the meals wouldn’t taste good, and she’d be beaten and scolded, the family would criticize her as a girl who couldn’t even cook a meal properly. If she used too much oil and salt, she’d still get a beating, called a spendthrift.”

”I don’t want to listen to this. Why are you telling me this?” Jillian Carter covered her ears.

But Joseph Shaw pulled her hand away and continued, ”Later, when her younger brother was born, for money and to raise him well, she was traded by her parents to be a child bride in a fool’s family. Her life was even worse than at the Chip Family, but Julie, who was not yet six years old, managed to return to the Chip Family using her own means, canceling the arranged marriage.”

”Joseph Shaw, shut up, I don’t want to hear it.” Jillian Carter snapped, shouting angrily at Joseph Shaw.

”You must listen!” Joseph Shaw said sternly, ”When she reached school age, the Chip Family didn’t plan to send her to school. It was she who ran to the Village Administration Office to seek help. When no one there paid attention, she went directly to the school and town government. Only then, due to the nine-year compulsory education rule, did the Chip Family send her to school, but even while attending school, household duties were not to be neglected.”

Jillian Carter had started kicking Joseph Shaw, but Joseph Shaw’s strength was much greater than Jillian’s, and he completely suppressed her.

”Because all the housework of the Chip Family fell on her shoulders, in her elementary school years, there were few days she was not late. This state of education lasted until she went to the middle school of the town, where boarding changed things.”

”She had just started junior school not many days before her dad and mom began looking for a marriage prospect for her in several villages, just waiting for her to graduate from the third year of junior high school before immediately marrying her off for a bride price.”

With Joseph Shaw’s words, Jillian Carter’s expression gradually cooled, until she finally let out a mocking laugh, ”So what?”

”When she found out, she didn’t even return home or continue her studies. She directly severed ties with the family and came to the Capital Province to work. Because she was young, she did various kinds of backbreaking jobs, washing dishes for people, serving plates, and through the means she used to network, she even learned to be a caregiver in a hospital, and later became a little nanny for someone.”
