Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 39: Chapter 39 Fighting

”Ye’er, can you tell me why you are working so hard?” Luo Feng, reluctantly following behind Luo Ye, walked briskly as Dou Dou orbited him, scaring him enough not to even think of slacking off. That little mouth nattering on his neck, more painful than ripping off a plaster bandage.

”To make you stronger!” Luo Ye slowed down a bit.

”Our morning exercise time is already enough. Look at me now, how strong am I?” Luo Feng quickly caught up with Luo Ye and showed off his biceps.

Luo Ye gave him a glance and said nothing.

Luo Feng smiled pleasingly: ”It’s not that I am afraid of hardship, but in this midsummer heat, this sweat is really unbearable!” he said, disdainfully tugging at his pant legs: ”I hate the feeling of pants sticking to my legs the most!”

”It’s not just sticking to your legs!” Luo Ye thought for a moment and then pulled Luo Feng towards the big sports field.

”Ye’er, didn’t you say that strolling in the courtyard was enough? Why do we have to go running again?” Luo Feng stumbled a few times before catching up normally, his face wrinkled into a bun.

”I have something I want to talk to brother about, but I don’t want mom and dad to know!” Upon hearing Luo Ye’s explanation, Luo Feng immediately shut his mouth and quickened his pace to follow his sister.

”Dou Dou, report immediately if you see someone coming this way!” Luo Ye found a secluded spot that was open on all sides and sat down with Luo Feng, instructing Dou Dou to stand guard.

”Chirp chirp...” Dou Dou, tasked with a mission, let out a little voice filled with indescribable excitement, clearly feeling important, ugh!

”Brother, you said you wanted to be a teacher, but now that the iron rice bowl is broken and the competition for teacher positions is getting fiercer, have you thought about what if you can’t become a teacher?” Luo Ye decided to reveal the family’s situation to Luo Feng to prevent him from always living in an ivory tower fantasy.

”A teacher? It can’t be, right?” Luo Feng hesitated for a moment: ”I could go to impoverished areas to teach, wouldn’t that be okay?”

”That would be fine, but would brother stay there forever? What kind of woman would you choose to marry in the future? And how would you provide for the family? Have you thought about it?”

”I, I haven’t thought about that!” Luo Feng embarrassedly scratched his head.

”Brother might think, don’t we have Wenxin Garden? Wouldn’t Ye’er help brother in the future? Right?”

Feeling his own thoughts exposed, Luo Feng guiltily lowered his head; indeed, this idea had just crossed his mind. Given the current profits of Wenxin Garden, even holding ten percent, the annual dividends were quite attractive.

Luo Ye sighed softly: ”Brother, looking at the children of the leaders in this compound, do you feel that we are the most stifled?”

Luo Feng nodded, he admitted it.

”Why do you think that is, brother?”

Luo Feng pondered for a moment: ”Like dad said, his foundation is not stable, we can’t cause trouble that would lead to blackmail against him, this makes us somewhat stifled.”

”Actually, although dad’s foundation isn’t stable, it’s not to that extent. Now, dad also realizes that his education approach was mistaken. It isn’t about living stifled yet safely...” Luo Ye grabbed her brother’s hand: ”I want to stand tall and proud, I want us to be the pride of our parents one day. Brother, do you have the confidence to change this with me?”

”Ye’er, I still don’t quite understand.” Luo Feng was utterly confused by what Luo Ye said.

”What it means is that we need to work hard together with dad. We can’t put all the burdens on him. As for Wenxin Garden, if dad’s power was gone, it could close down very quickly. We need to enhance our own survival skills to free dad from worries. Physical training is just the first step, we should also master other skills. Aside from being a teacher, brother, think about what else you are interested in. It’s good to have many skills!”

”Did Ye’er hear some rumors? Is dad facing a problem?” Luo Feng’s face showed worry; he believed his sister wouldn’t say these things without a reason.

”Dad came back today looking unwell; I believe work must not be going smoothly. Let’s buck up and give Dad more confidence. Grandpa Liu’s birthday is the day after tomorrow, brother, we need to put on a good performance and not let people look down on us!”

”Ye’er, I understand, from now on I won’t complain and I will focus on getting fit first, don’t worry!” Luo Feng said with rare seriousness, ”As for my career, with my personality, going into politics isn’t quite suitable. I’d rather work hard in my studies and aim to stay on as a lecturer.

Our school’s Night School tutorial classes are recruiting university students above sophomore year as teachers. I can apply and try out, it could be a good experience. What do you think, Ye’er?”

”Good, I support you, brother!”

”Chirp chirp...” Dou Dou suddenly started barking, Luo Ye looked up just as a basketball rolled right in front of Dou Dou. Noticing the man who came to pick up the ball, a look of disgust flashed in Luo Ye’s eyes; his name was Wang Wei, the son of the vice-director of the organization department, Wang Lidong, and a classmate of Luo Feng - also the guy who forced Luo Feng to polish shoes.

”Luo Feng, are you and your sister chatting here? I thought you were a couple!” The man teased as he picked up the basketball, then noticing Dou Dou: ”Oh, this is that famous Little Seagull from the courtyard? Come, little bird, come home with me, let you taste what roasted bird is like!”

Luo Ye was certain that Wang Wei did it on purpose! Her eyes shifting to Luo Feng, she wanted to see if her intentional provocations over this period had brought any real change to her brother.

”Ye’er, let’s go home!” Luo Feng stood up, pulling Luo Ye up and patting the dust off his buttocks, and gestured to Dou Dou, ”Dou Dou, let’s go home!”

A flicker of disappointment passed through Luo Ye’s eyes. The shoe polishing incident was well-known in the compound. If Luo Feng had any guts, he shouldn’t have backed down today!

”Ye’er,” Luo Feng tried to grasp Luo Ye’s hand but she dodged him, just then, Wang Wei hurled a basketball at Dou Dou, who furiously dashed over and bit him twice on the back of his neck.

By the time Wang Wei realized what had happened, Dou Dou had already flown back to Luo Ye. Luo Ye bent down and picked up Dou Dou: ”Good job, very brave!”

Wang Wei, holding his neck, pointed at Luo Ye: ”You little girl, hand over that bird to me, if I don’t eat stewed bird tonight, I won’t carry the Wang surname!”

Luo Ye’s lips curved into a mocking smile: ”Then what surname would you like?”

”You seeking a beating, girl?” Wang Wei’s veins on his neck bulging.

”Wang Wei, don’t go too far, dare to touch my sister and see what happens!” Luo Feng swiftly pulled Luo Ye behind him, Luo Ye lowered her eyes, breathing a sigh of relief.

”Pfft! A coward, getting temperamental, huh?” Wang Wei laughed stumblingly: ”Fine, I’ll touch your sister now, see what you’ll do!” he gestured towards Luo Ye swishing behind Luo Feng: ”I don’t mind your shabbiness, I’ll grudgingly poke you, come out!”

”Ow!” Luo Ye thought she had misheard, Was that roar really issued by her brother?

”Chirp chirp chirp...” Dou Dou sounded excited, as if cheering for Luo Feng. The situation now was, Luo Feng and Wang Wei were tangled, fighting, with Wang Wei constantly cursing while Luo Feng, since that roar, remained silent.

Luo Ye stood off to the side quietly watching, not stopping the fight. Growth for boys should include fighting; this was Luo Feng’s first initiative to attack, whether win or lose, she was proud of him!
