Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 33: Chapter 33 Yuan Qiang

Dressed in prison garb, the gaunt Su Yan, escorted by two police officers, entered the visiting room. Yuan Qiang looked at his wife, who seemed to have aged several years in the blink of an eye, sighed softly, and was at a loss for words for a moment.

After Su Yan sat down, the police officers stepped back a few steps, giving space for the couple to converse.

”Youʼve lost weight.” A flicker of pity flashed in Yuan Qiangʼs eyes.

”With these circumstances, how could I not lose weight?” Su Yan looked back at Yuan Qiang, ”You look quite well, though. Donʼt tell me youʼve found someone new in just these few days?”

”Su Yan, at this point, why are you still so harsh? Is it necessary?” The pity in Yuan Qiangʼs eyes quickly disappeared; this woman was always so unforgiving with her words.

Su Yan stretched out her hand: ”Hand it over!”

Yuan Qiang stared blankly at Su Yan: ”What?”

”The divorce papers. Isnʼt that why youʼre here?” Su Yanʼs face took on a mocking smile: ”Donʼt tell me youʼre willing to wait for me.”

”Between us, canʼt we have a normal conversation?” Yuan Qiang appeared helpless.

”How can I be normal when things have come to this? Can you save me? Can you save my brother? Can you keep my parents from being sent back to the countryside? Can you?” Su Yan suddenly stood up, agitated.

”2526, please control your emotions!”

After the warning, Su Yan slowly sat back down: ”How many of those things can you do?”

”Su Yan, you havenʼt tempered your temper at all. How many times did I advise you before? Did you listen? You and your brother should have seen this day coming.” Yuan Qiang sighed faintly: ”You donʼt know the blessings you have. You had such a good boss who trusted you so much, and how did you repay her?”

Su Yan shouted angrily: ”Yuan Qiang, did you come here to upset me or to see me? Get out!”

”I came today to tell you two things...” Yuan Qiang straightened up: ”First, after the sentencing, settle down and reform yourself; I will wait for you to get out. Second, Iʼve found a job...”

Su Yan interrupted Yuan Qiang: ”I could be sentenced to at least twenty years. Do you realize what that means? When I get out, Iʼll be an old woman with a wrinkled face. Are you sure youʼll wait?”

”Yes, youʼve always been the breadwinner, regardless of whether what you did was right or not, and thatʼs a fact. Now itʼs my turn to provide for the family.

For now, I canʼt afford to keep my parents in this city, but I will send them an allowance every month. Reform well and aim for a sentence reduction, so we can reunite sooner!”

”What job did you find?” Su Yan finally focused her gaze.

Yuan Qiang hesitated for a moment: ”I... Iʼm now an employee at Wenxin Garden!”

”What?” Su Yanʼs voice rose sharply, then realizing something, she lowered her voice: ”To help me...” Su Yan glanced sneakily at the police, making a gesture of revenge, a flicker of joy in her eyes.

”Youʼre mistaken!” Yuan Qiang shook his head: ”I applied at Wenxin Garden to make amends for you. When Jiang Na came to see you, she mentioned that Wenxin Garden needed a yoga instructor. I happened to have expertise in that area, so I thought to try it out.

President Luo recognized me. I thought she would refuse to hire me, but unexpectedly, not only did she hire me, she also offered me very good terms. One dies for those who appreciate one, and I will not be as ungrateful as you.”

Su Yanʼs face turned red with anger: ”Are you here to show off? Have you fallen for that little demon? Yuan Qiang, let me tell you, I willingly supported you, but that little demon certainly wonʼt. Beware that she doesnʼt leave you with nothing!”

”Forget it, your current mindset isnʼt suited for this conversation. Iʼll visit you again later!” Yuan Qiang stood up and walked out without looking back.

”Yuan Qiang, you will surely be tormented to death by that demon girl, you bastard, pretending to be a good man, you will definitely have a miserable end...”

Listening to Su Yanʼs distant howling, Yuan Qiang helplessly shook his head; President Luo was right after all, she just wouldnʼt listen.

Around 176 in height, with thick eyebrows and big eyes, a straight nose, and fair skin, his slightly outdated middle-part hair, Luo Ye sized up Yuan Qiang who seemed somewhat uneasy sitting across from her: ”Speak, whatʼs the situation?”

”I didnʼt get a chance to speak; she wouldnʼt let me open my mouth!” Yuan Qiang struggled to respond.

”Itʼs not that you didnʼt have a chance; itʼs that she doesnʼt think sheʼs in the wrong at all. Yuan Qiang, thereʼs absolutely no reason for me to forgive her, thus, any judgment I can only promise to stay out of it, not interfere.

As her husband, considering you know who my father is, I can assure you, I will not use my fatherʼs connections to interfere in this matter.

But you also need to keep my identity confidential. Only Su Yan knows about my fatherʼs identity in the company. To hold onto her power, she has never disclosed it, so no employee knows that my mother is the Mayorʼs wife.

Since it has been hidden until today, thereʼs no need to spread the word now; itʼs not that Iʼm scared, but I donʼt want to attract some people with ulterior motives to Wenxin Garden. Youʼve worked in public service before, you can understand what I mean, right?”

”I understand, I will do my best. I apologize to President Luo for my previous recklessness!” Yuan Qiang stood up and bowed deeply.

Luo Ye waved her hand: ”No need, youʼre considered a man of loyalty and righteousness, go on with your duties!”

Everyone, including Wen Xin, was curious about why she would hire Yuan Qiang; werenʼt they worried that Yuan Qiang was intentionally infiltrating because of the incident with Su Yan?

Only she knew very well that Yuan Qiang, seeming a bit of a pushover, is in fact a man of principles. His seeming weakness was merely him being battered by reality.

Once, when Wen Xin went to confront Su Yan, Yuan Qiang spoke on behalf of Wen Xin, and had a falling-out with Su Yan, giving Wen Xin the last thousand yuan he had, telling her that he would rather beg than tolerate a wife with a heart like a viper.

And he truly did that, packing up his luggage and leaving Su Yan that very day, later filing for divorce and starting to face job troubles.

He later applied to a small gym to be a Yoga instructor. Because of his good attitude and skills, he accidentally became famous in Island City, causing renowned fitness centers in Island City to attempt to poach him, all of which he refused.

This was because, at his lowest, the employer was willing to give him a chance, and he could not be ungrateful. Such an employee, Luo Ye naturally would not overlook.

Yuan Qiang originally asked Luo Ye if they could overlook Su Yanʼs embezzlement of company funds for stock trading, after all, transferring the stocks back to Wenxin Garden not only prevented losses but actually made a good profit.

Not wanting to directly reject him, Luo Ye agreed, if he could make Su Yan write a genuine letter of repentance, then she would not hold her accountable.

She believed that Yuan Qiang would not falsify. In other words, if he couldnʼt pass this test of hers, he naturally wouldnʼt be able to stay at Wenxin Garden.

As it turned out, she made a good bet! And he did the right thing!
