Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Unexplained Fondness

Luo Feng arrived at the seaside station, and before he could even steady himself after getting off, the petite and sweet Zhuang Meili excitedly came up to greet him: ”Luo Feng, I arrived early! Huh, whereʼs your sister?”

”Yeʼer had something come up and couldnʼt make it!” Luo Feng felt a bit sorry: ”I didnʼt know your dormʼs phone number, so I couldnʼt inform you, sorry about that!”

”No problem, no problem, let me introduce you...” Zhuang Meili pointed to a delicate and frail-looking girl behind her: ”This is my fellow townsman, Liang Jing, she came to visit me, so I invited her to join us, you donʼt mind, right?”

”Thereʼs nothing to mind, itʼs more fun with more people, hello Liang Jing, Iʼm Luo Feng, nice to meet you!” Luo Feng politely extended his hand to Liang Jing.

Luo Fengʼs palm was slender and fair, Liang Jing hesitated halfway and then withdrew her hand, her face flushed red: ”Nice... nice to meet you, my hands are... unsightly.”

The way Liang Jing acted prompted Luo Feng to feel an inexplicable sense of closeness: ”Liang Jing, are you still studying or working now?”

”I... my family is poor, after finishing high school I started working, and now... I am a typist!” When she mentioned her hardships, Liang Jingʼs eyes began to shimmer, adding a touch of pitiful charm.

”Being a typist is pretty good for a girl, you can work while taking self-study exams, many employers recognize that degree!” Luo Feng offered her a tissue: ”My sister said that as long as you work hard, there will definitely be rewards!”

”Really?” Liang Jing looked at Luo Feng in surprise: ”The degree from self-study exams, is it really recognized?”

Luo Feng nodded: ”Yes, itʼs more useful than those from night schools, but itʼs also harder to pass than night school exams!”

Liang Jing looked grateful: ”Thank you, thank you, no one has ever told me this before, I had no idea!”

Zhuang Meiliʼs face took on a somewhat ugly expression, having pursued him for half a semester and finally making some progress with Luo Feng; seeing that the weather was warming up, she invited Luo Feng to the seaside, but Luo Feng said he wanted to bring his sister Luo Ye along, and she couldnʼt refuse.

Today was Liang Jingʼs day off, so she went to see her early in the morning, considering that if Liang Jing accompanied Luo Ye, she would have more time to spend with Luo Feng, thatʼs why she suggested Liang Jing join them.

Unexpectedly, Luo Ye didnʼt show up, and now, Luo Feng, whoʼs usually quiet and doesnʼt talk much with girls, was surprisingly enthusiastic with Liang Jing, making Zhuang Meili burn with jealousy.

”Meili, thank you for bringing me out today, otherwise I wouldnʼt have known I could have this opportunity!” Liang Jing, immersed in excitement, didnʼt notice Zhuang Meiliʼs abnormal expression.

”Congratulations, Jingjing!” Zhuang Meili forced a smile and looked at Luo Feng: ”Letʼs go to the seaside!”

Luo Feng nodded: ”Okay, we canʼt swim this season, but we can take a boat to Xiao Hai Island for a round trip, have seafood for lunch on the island, and in the afternoon return to the beach to sunbathe, how about that?”

While saying this, Luo Feng faced Zhuang Meili, which made her happy again, and she casually hooked her arm through Luo Fengʼs: ”Thatʼs great, Iʼve never been on a boat before!”

Luo Fengʼs cheeks turned slightly red, and he pretended to casually pull his arm away: ”Letʼs go.”

”Wait, wait a minute...” Liang Jing looked a little uneasy watching the two: ”I... I wonʼt go, you two have fun.”

Zhuang Meili was secretly delighted: ”Jingjing, did you suddenly remember that you still have work?”

Liang Jing was startled, then nodded: ”Yes... yes, I just remembered I still have some work unfinished.”

Luo Fengʼs timidity didnʼt mean he was foolish, after giving it a little thought he understood, and smilingly said to Liang Jing: ”You probably didnʼt bring any money, right? Donʼt worry, itʼs on me, itʼs rare to get out, so take the chance to relax a bit.”

”Not... I, I brought it, I really have unfinished work!” Liang Jingʼs toes scratched the floor anxiously, understanding from Zhuang Meiliʼs questioning that she didnʼt want her to stay here.

But in such a short time, she had developed a special liking for Luo Feng, afraid that if she left, she might never see him again. She despised herself for coveting her good friendʼs boyfriend, but she just couldnʼt bring herself to walk away.

”Letʼs go, you clearly didnʼt bring any money!” Luo Feng stepped forward, took Liang Jing by the sleeve, and headed towards the beach. Seeing Liang Jingʼs hands, he couldnʼt help feeling a bit distressed. It was already early June, and the chilblains on Liang Jingʼs hands were still purplish and swollen, which is why she was too embarrassed to shake hands.

Seeing Luo Feng looking at her hands, Liang Jing clenched her fists and withdrew them into her sleeves: ”Luo Feng, please let go, I wonʼt run away, Iʼll go with you guys!”

”Okay!” Luo Feng let go of her hands feeling a bit embarrassed. Liang Jing reminded him of his sister from the past, which made him act in unexpected ways at times.

Zhuang Meili followed behind, bitterly biting her lip; she had actively pursued Luo Feng, so naturally, she didnʼt dare to get jealous and throw tantrums like other girls. Moreover, Luo Feng hadnʼt agreed to be her boyfriend yet, they hadnʼt even held hands. She had wanted to use todayʼs opportunity to get closer, to take things a step further, and now, ironically, Luo Feng and Liang Jing seemed to be the ones getting closer.

But the problem was, she was clearly prettier than Liang Jing. Right, Liang Jing was thinner than her, did Luo Feng like slender girls? No, she had to lose weight!

...

At ten thirty in the morning, Luo Ye finished studying the companyʼs personnel structure. She now had everyoneʼs names, faces, education, and skills etched into her memory, making it impossible for anyone in the company to pull wool over her eyes.

”Yu Jia, please get me the financial statements for the past two years!”

Yu Jia, who had been diligently working on reports, looked up at the sound and saw a girl who remarkably resembled President Wen standing beside her partition – surely, this must be President Wenʼs daughter.

”Hello... hello!” The plump Yu Jia quickly stood up, causing her chair to creak and groan, eliciting laughter from a few others in the finance room.

Seeing Luo Ye glance over, everyone hurriedly ducked their heads and pretended to work hard. It was said that the young miss had a temper so fierce that it had once driven Mr. Su to smash cups and flower pots in his office. Theyʼd better be careful.

Everyoneʼs afraid-to-breathe demeanor made Luo Yeʼs lips curl slightly. This was exactly the effect she wanted. President Wen had lost all his authority, and she was determined to pick it up piece by piece.

In a company with just a few staff, the boss might be friends with the employees, but in a company with more than sixty people, if the boss was friends with the employees, wouldnʼt it be a mess?

Luo Yeʼs gaze turned back to Yu Jia: ”Hello, I would like the financial statements for the past two years; my credentials are in an email in the company inbox, you can verify them!”

”Do you really need financial statements for two years?” Yu Jia deliberately emphasized ”two years,” which would mean a whole box full of documents, and she seriously doubted whether this young girl could understand them.

”Yes, two years!” Luo Ye firmly nodded.

”Please wait!” Yu Jia wasted no more words, and if she wanted them, she would provide them; whether she understood or not was not Yu Jiaʼs concern.

Luo Ye emphasized to Yu Jia, who was headed towards the filing cabinet, ”Give me the real accounts, nothing fabricated. If I find out, it wonʼt be as simple as just an internal punishment!”

Yu Jiaʼs hand, about to insert the key, shook a little, then she inserted the key into the lock.
