Bear School Astartes

The decision to have Rong Buqiu and Qilin take Sachia away first was made out of practical considerations.

Originally, with the power of Qilin’s thunder, it would have been the perfect choice to deal with the Terror Tyrannosaurus.

But the situation just now was still vivid in memory.

The lightning strikes of Qilin, at least for this Terror Tyrannosaurus in front of them, didn’t seem to have much restraining effect.

And this was not the first time Lann and Qilin had witnessed such a situation.

Back in the Flame World, the Subterranean Bishops in the Profound Church opposed the then self-proclaimed ’Rosalie’, the Sun Princess.

When Qilin attempted to clear the scene with lightning, the Subterranean Bishops merely used a [Miracle·Profound Shelter], gaining considerable resistance against the lightning.

Qilin was a New Continent Ancient Dragon, though mystical, still a natural creature through and through.

Its thunder was also lightning from nature.

If the enemy had supernatural powers as protection, its destructive force would seem as if veiled, with greatly diminished effect.

The Terror Tyrannosaurus lacked the intelligence and rationality to use magic, but its semi-spiritualized body was already in a supernatural state sufficient to weaken Qilin’s lightning.

Moreover, with the Terror Tyrannosaurus’s exaggerated physique, it could withstand it with no issue at all.

Qilin estimated that if its Ancient Dragon body were to be ravaged by this massive Terror Tyrannosaurus, even if it ultimately escaped, it would probably be incapacitated for a time.

More terrifying than that Golden Lion with the burst of golden hair!

Apart from the unique mystical traits of the Ancient Dragons, merely discussing combat power without considering its positive ecological effects, undoubtedly... it was an Ancient Dragon Level creature of the New Continent!

That’s why Lann decided to have Qilin evacuate with the people.

Because aside from the power of thunder, Lann truly didn’t have confidence in Qilin’s physique and skills to perform melee combat in front of this Terror Tyrannosaurus.

... It might actually have a leg torn off and eaten by the opponent.

Though with the life force of New Continent creatures, it would probably grow back in time.

With the relatively stable and trustworthy Rong Buqiu to care for the wounded and have Qilin swiftly lead them away, it became a rather safe choice.

No one dawdled, and after Lann made the arrangements, everyone prepared to take action.

Yet the Demon Hunter, as if just remembering, turned and asked Rong Buqiu behind him.

”By the way, Rong Buqiu.”

”Ah, what’s the matter, meow?”

”[Golden Resin].” Lann frowned, watching the insane Terror Tyrannosaurus in the distance rooting the ground and rubbing off a large chunk of its own flank to eat. ”Do you still have [Golden Resin] in hand?”

The semi-spiritualized Terror Tyrannosaurus, since natural lightning wasn’t enough, then go with the supernatural lightning of the Dragon Hunting Realm’s Gold!

”You need [Golden Resin] now?” Rong Buqiu’s furry face suddenly fell, ”I, I had used it all up when I was experimenting with the [Bulk Golden Resin] before... meow!”

Regret and despondence appeared on the little cat’s face.

But Lann merely waved his hand after frowning a bit.

”It’s not your fault, and I won’t fail because of this. When you were bulkifying before, I was aware of the losses and agreed to it.”

The sound of Qilin’s hooves faded into the distance, with Rong Buqiu holding onto Sachia on its back.

Not far away, the Terror Tyrannosaurus had already gobbled up everything remotely considered ’large chunks’ of meat around itself.

Including what had fallen off of itself.

This was the final confrontation.

Lann was very clear about this.

Though the Terror Tyrannosaurus’s mind had long been tortured into collapse by its appetite, its body was also aware of this.

Its metabolism rate was dragged so high, that anytime it stopped eating, its body would start ’digesting’ itself.

But to eat, it had to move first and kill the food it wanted.

The Terror Tyrannosaurus, tortured by its appetite, let out a ’roar’ from its throat.

Increasingly viscous acidic saliva dripped from its mouth.

It stared intently at the ’food’ blocking its path.

Thus Lann better understood what kind of creature the Terror Tyrannosaurus really was.

Ordinary creatures, even those terrifyingly vigorous in life force from the New Continent, generally continued in the conventional direction of biological evolution.

That is to say, creatures in evolution pursued not just single-minded ’strength’ but a compromise balance of ’survivability, energy consumption, adaptability’ and other comprehensive qualities.

If the body is too strong, energy consumption will increase accordingly.

A small island could not produce a hunter like a tiger because the small island’s resources couldn’t sustain it.

In their place are much weaker hunters, with much smaller food requirements.

Biological adaptation to the environment is what we call ’evolution’.

If a tiger really managed to struggle on the island for dozens of generations, then its body functions would decline, and its size and weight would definitely reduce to adapt to the environment.

Compared to the original species, this weaker tiger is, without doubt, a form of ’evolution’.

But the Terror Tyrannosaurus...

Amid the chaotic teeth protruding from the flesh, the dark green beast exhaled hot white steam from its mouth.

Its whole body swelled as if injected with hormones, its enormous size even disproportionate to its overall skeleton, with muscles beneath its skin and scales billowing like waves.

Just like humans on performance-enhancing drugs, filled with unnatural violent forms.

When ordinary creatures lack food, they tend to weaken themselves to adapt to their circumstances.

But the Terror Tyrannosaurus, on the contrary, violently strengthens itself.

It strengthens itself enough to swim off an isolated island or simply sink into the sea to hunt huge marine prey!

Its muscles and strength serve its insatiable and unrestrained appetite.

The stronger the body, the greater the appetite; the greater the appetite, the stronger the body needs to be to satisfy it.

Even if it means destroying its entire food chain, the Terror Tyrannosaurus will not hesitate!

Using its own violence, it twists the ecological chain and the tendency of evolution... truly an unmitigated, terrifying creature.

With a ”clang,” the sword blade lightly resonated as [Muddy Stream·Destruction] was lifted off the ground by Lann.

Immediately afterward, the Demon Hunter took a great leap backward, retreating more than two meters.

The next moment, ”whoosh~”

The elongated body of the Terror Tyrannosaurus bent its hind legs to support itself, lowering the entire body height.

Immediately followed by a spinning turn! Both front and rear were robust, resembling a giant zucchini; the Terror Tyrannosaurus swept its elongated body across the huge area like a compass drawing a circle close to the ground!

Lann’s big leap backward perfectly allowed him to escape the opponent’s attack range.

More than that...

”Boom!”

A shallow red Fighting Spirit exploded in flames!

Without any pause upon landing, the Demon Hunter charged forward along the original direction!

This forward charge was extensive, appearing as though the entire body’s center of gravity was being shifted forward.

Almost making one think he was about to fall forward.

Meanwhile, the Greatsword swung along with the forward charge, receiving stronger propulsion from the body’s center of gravity!

[Greatsword Technique·Flying Horizontal Sweep Slash]!

The subtle timing difference between the backward leap and immediate forward charge was captured by Lann’s nerve reactions, experience, and Mentos’s computational power.

The backward jump allowed him to dodge the spine-covered tail tip of the sweeping Terror Tyrannosaurus.

And the subsequent slash perfectly struck the mid-to-rear tail segment after having loosened its muscles!

”Clang!!!”

The sword blade collided fiercely with the flesh of the Terror Tyrannosaurus, compressing the sound of ripping flesh into a blaring explosion!

The timing and position were truly exquisite.

The swollen and powerful muscles of the Terror Tyrannosaurus had relaxed after completing a motion, and the mid-rear tail segment was relatively thinner within the thick long tail.

The tail had just completed the swing, and residual inertia was present.

This inertia ran counter to the direction of Lann’s sword blade, equivalent to applying extra force onto the sword!

Thus decisively clean!

First came the intense sound of ”Kara La” as a patch of dense spines shattered!

Then came the tearing and crushing sound of large chunks of flesh being ripped apart, accompanied by the rubbing and tempering noise between the blade and the tail bone.

Following the inertia of the tail swing, a large mist of black blood, filled with Dragon Attribute Energy, sprayed out.

But because Lann struck after the tail swung past his location, the sprayed blood mist did not affect him.

Nevertheless, the Demon Hunter furrowed his brow.

”The harm is still... insufficient.”

The thick long tail of the Terror Tyrannosaurus was nearly split open by Lann’s attack by more than half in the mid-rear segment!

The tail bone was exposed in the flesh nearly two-thirds!

Yet, based on touch and the Terror Tyrannosaurus’s reaction to being hit, Lann knew this scarcely affected it.

The already exposed two-thirds of the tail extended as the wounds bore greater pressure following the tail swing. It became more torn and hideous.

But the Terror Tyrannosaurus appeared oblivious.

Its body twisted, completing the tail swing just enough to swing the tail tip to its mouth.

Then, before Lann’s widened eyes... ”Crunch!”

Drooling, as if unable to wait any longer without hesitation, it bit its drooping injured tail tip!

Its neck muscles mercilessly powered through, as its demon-like mouth tore, bit off, chewed, and swallowed!

Its teeth ripping and severing its own muscles!

Even before finishing chewing the torn tail tip in its mouth, the Terror Tyrannosaurus lunged at Lann again!

Its appetite did not allow it a moment’s delay!

And Lann gripped the grip of his sword wrapped with the non-slip Extinct Dragon Hide tightly in his hands.

The power of [Muddy Stream·Destruction] was enough to inflict terrifying damage on the Terror Tyrannosaurus, but it still wasn’t enough to immediately kill this Terror Tyrannosaurus that has advanced too far down the path of self-destruction without causing further impact.

It was still not enough.
