Chapter 896: Chapter 878: Rescuing the Saintess

Sure, here is the translation:

It is precisely because in this world, the connection between the soul and the body is unusually tight that many phenomena occur which seem strange to Lann, the Otherworldly Person.

For example, when he first arrived here, those woodcutters lost humanity from their souls due to death and became wandering spirits; their bodies also grew taller and thinner.

Elderidge simply devoured people, yet the massive souls accumulated inside him transformed his body into a puddle of ’tar.’

In this world, changes in the soul cause reactions in the body. Similarly, changes in the body can affect the soul.

On the negative side, it’s a tragedy where one of the soul or the body falls and drags the other along the path of descent.

Mutations in the soul lead to sudden changes in the body, which stimulate further alienation of the soul.

But on the positive side, this mechanism might also promote mutual improvement during the ascent of both body and soul.

The two princes of Losric removed their mother’s tongue...

Lann unconsciously glanced towards the door of that chamber.

Perhaps Rosalie’s current form is no longer her original self.

Because she had part of her soul cut away, her body must also be affected.

”Now is the chance!”

Klimte whispered while glancing toward the surviving warriors.

Though these people also experienced fierce battles, he knew well that they had fought with the Profound believers out of necessity, just to survive.

They were not like Lann, who had the ability to charge out on his steed yet chose to stay and fight.

They were not worthy of trust.

”Right now, Losric City must be in chaos; even the bell to awaken the past Lords of Cinder has been rung. This indicates that the progress of the Fire Transmission Ceremony has encountered great difficulty. They even had to wake these Lords to temporarily maintain the world’s light.”

”And we can seize this opportunity to rescue the princess!”

’Princess’? Lann raised his eyebrows.

Is Geside Rosalie’s daughter? That does make sense, after all, she is the [Daughter of the Angel].

However, Leonard began with the formal tone now.

”No one publicly admits Geside is ’princess,’ please be cautious with your words, Archbishop. She only serves as the Saintess to the Queen.”

Klimte impatiently narrowed his lips.

”Don’t get vague at such a crucial moment, Leonard! Just tell me how you see this chance! This could be our only chance!”

The Goddess Knight’s fingers caressed the lower edge of the silver mask, muttering softly.

”Indeed, this is the only chance. If we could bring back Her Highness Geside, then Rosalie might feel a bit of comfort amidst the sorrow of being hurt by her child and being driven from her home.”

At this point, the two of them were basically in agreement.

But beside them, Lann kept furrowing his brows.

”I understand that you both pulled me aside to discuss this idea, and I would be willing to help if feasible. However...”

The Demon Hunter also bent a bit, keeping their conversation confined to the three-person circle.

”Losric should be the main force maintaining the Fire Transmission Ceremony amid this Fire Apocalypse, right? It’s a mess out there now.”

Lann’s fingers pointed toward the closed doors of the Profound Church.

Though the doors were shut, everyone was well aware of the situation outside.

The eerie eclipse had persisted for a long time, showing no signs of improvement.

Under the ’Bleeding Sun,’ even the Undead turned into wandering spirits, still inherently terrified.

This primal fear caused their frail bodies to curl up, huddled in a corner clutching their heads.

”Trying to sneak into Losric City and rescue someone amidst this chaos... Even if successful, how do we face the apocalypse afterward?”

Yet Klimte waved dismissively, apparently unconcerned about the current dire circumstances.

”You underestimate Losric, Lann.”

As one of the highest ranks in the current White Sect, Klimte deemed himself knowledgeable about this great kingdom.

After all, the King of Losric not only belonged to the Royal Family but also was revered by the White Sect as the Divine Race. True unity of church and state.

For centuries, Kariem clergymen proclaimed that ’King Ausloes is the legitimate ruler, while Lloyd is merely a branch,’ gaining increasing momentum under the tacit approval of King Ausloes.

”Losric has overseen the Fire Transmission Ceremony for tens of thousands of years, during which King Ausloes, supported by the formidable Losric Knight Order, sages, and chief priests, guided countless Lords of Cinder to the First Flame.”

”Ordering them to burn, keeping the world functioning.”

”How many times has the current situation outside occurred across those millennia? How many Lords of Cinder have hesitated to transmit the fire? How many contemplated other desires during the transmission?”

”Yet they all failed before King Ausloes, without exception.”

”To this day, Losric’s fire transfer process is exceedingly comprehensive. Aside from the likes of Elderidge, who wasn’t completely burnt out, Losric has prepared a total of four to support the world in the ’Ceremony Transition Period’ as Lords of Cinder!”

”So even if Elderidge fled, I’m not really worried about the fire’s endurance; there’s still three left from four.”

”Moreover, it’s not like there aren’t heroes capable of assuming the mantle of Lord of Cinder: Losric’s own Prince designated for the ceremony, along with the hero captured by the Losric Knight Order during its external campaign.”

”Whether they want to or not, when the time comes, I believe King Ausloes will be merciless. The current chaos is merely a minor disturbance.”

”We must take advantage of this ’minor disturbance’ to bring out Her Highness Geside!”

Klimte’s statement received Leonard’s agreement, and the Goddess Knight nodded silently.

The authority and trust Losric held at the Fire Transmission Ceremony were thus evident.

However, Lann still felt uneasy.

The dwindling of the flames is an undeniable fact, and now is the Fire Apocalypse; even Klimte, such a White Sect Archbishop, admits this.

But just like people during an economic bubble, everyone knows of the bubble’s existence, yet no one believes it will burst during the time they enter.

This kind of blind optimism made Lann feel uneasy.

But he couldn’t say anything, because ultimately the Fire Transmission Ceremony, Lords of Cinder... these things and matters are managed by the people of this world, and only they can manage them.

”We hope to get your help, Lann.”

Klimte turned to the Demon Hunter, speaking earnestly.

”Help us complete this plan and bring back the Saintess.”

”And we will give in return. When the Saintess who holds knowledge and stories arrives at the Profound Church, the Angel faith will once again flourish. And then, we will dispatch warriors to assist you in subjugating Elderidge, removing the hidden darkness within you.”

”We have a relationship of mutual trust.”

Klimte’s hand grasped Lann’s wrist guard, his gaze firm.

”In today’s world, it is especially precious and we should certainly help each other.”

Although Elderidge was driven away by Lann, he is, after all, a Lord of Cinder.

Though he was a political cleric in life, later his immense soul grew due to Losric’s nourishment.

Judging from his background, from the process of his power development, he was not at all the type skilled in combat.

Yet even in such a situation, when he first crawled out of the coffin, he devoured a giant slave, already making it nearly impossible for so many to stop him despite their desperate efforts.

He even completely ignored these people who risked their lives in their efforts.

In the end, it was Lann who took the risk to open Spiritual Vision, successfully injuring him.

This is the power and standard of the Lords of Cinder.

It’s hard to imagine how terrifying they would be at their peak when they possess profound depths and with the First Flame burning on them as the source of world’s stability.

Given Elderidge’s departure, he is surely going to satisfy his appetite, and when that happens, he will undoubtedly become more difficult to deal with than he is now.

Lann doesn’t mind fighting strong opponents, that indeed makes him exhilarated.

But for a type like Elderidge who is both disgusting and lacking combat skill, he doesn’t mind seeking external help.

May he quickly succumb, for the feeling of lurking darkness within is not comfortable.

So facing Klimte’s hopeful gaze, Lann nodded.

”I said from the start, if you need help, I’m more than willing.”

”Then it’s settled,” Leonard concluded.

”We’ll allocate some personnel, must be fully trustworthy. Then infiltrate Losric City, seize the opportunity, and bring back the Saintess.”

This clearly means those warriors are not within the ’trustworthy’ scope.

”I’ll lead the team,” Klimte, as the planner of the plan, didn’t hesitate to take on the role of responsibility.

His finger pointed around.

”We now have three Winged Knights, plus a few Maggot Men. There’s still some of our remnants inside Losric City, and by then, I’ll contact them. It’s quite a formidable force.”

”You stay here, Leonard. We’re sending out a lot of people; you must ensure the Goddess’s safety here.”

”Of course, I will stay close and protect the Goddess,” Leonard nodded, reminding Klimte.

”Remember to contact Emma then. As the chief priest, she has always admired and sympathized with the Goddess and is someone we can confide in.”

”Her led church, Knight Order, and the Sages are known as one of Losric’s three main pillars and can provide us great convenience.”

Klimte nodded: ”Of course, I won’t forget this venerable old friend.”

”Seems you’ve both got it mostly arranged.”

Lann straightened up, crossed his arms and shrugged.

”What’ve you got planned for me? Surely you don’t expect me to just be the assault unit?”

”Certainly not, that would be a waste. Your acumen and wisdom have also left a strong impression.”

Klimte took another letter from his sleeve and handed it to Lann.

”Actually, what I hope you do is incredibly important. Your face is memorable, yet no one in Losric City has seen it, which is advantageous, as they won’t be overly cautious of you.”

”I hope you can ride your steed and head to Losric ahead of time, connect with Chief Priest Emma, and see what’s really happening in the city. Otherwise, when our group arrives, we might inadvertently cause a calamity.”

”Leave it to me.”

Lann took and pocketed the letter.

”Actually, I’m curious about the legendary Losric City, so this suits me just fine.”

”From the Profound Church all the way to the Undead Settlement, that village’s gate connects directly to Losric City’s main entrance bridge. When you cross that bridge, you reach Losric City.”

Klimte gave the final instructions of the route, then began preparing to execute the plan.
