Chapter 895: Chapter 877: The Goddess’s Identity

”Are you saying that now the Goddess instructs you to leave immediately and take care of your own affairs?”

Leonard sighed after hearing Lann’s words.

He pressed the forehead of his silver mask, seemingly pondering something.

It was a long while before he spoke.

”And what about you? What do you think?”

Hearing this, Lann raised an eyebrow.

Instead of answering Leonard’s question, he asked back.

”I thought you would meticulously fulfill the will of the Goddess.”

Instead of questioning Lann about his own thoughts when the Goddess had told Lann to leave.

”I am the Knight of the Goddess, a ’Finger of Rosalie’. My purpose from beginning to end has been to protect Rosalie.”

Leonard removed his hand from the silver mask, folded his arms, and spoke plainly.

”But sometimes, those who are being protected do not know what they truly need. That’s where I come in.”

”Are you saying that the Goddess needs me now, and it’s unwise for her to tell me to leave immediately?”

Lann asked with interest.

”Though I hate to admit it, you are indeed a powerful warrior, stronger than me. In times like these, having more strength is always good.”

Leonard said in a deep voice.

”The Goddess is just too emotional and compassionate... she’s always like this, and because of that, she suffers a lot.”

”She wants you to quickly rid yourself of the darkness within, so even if she needs you, she insistently asks you to leave.”

Yet you are precisely the type of person: someone who can’t move forward at all when others are risking their own safety for your own good.

In Lann’s mind, Mentos evaluated his main self.

The evaluation from the biochemical brain was based on facts: back in Yan’an, Lann couldn’t leave behind Gascogne and his family, who urged him to leave. In the end, he fought all the way to Byron Vis.

Lann didn’t even need to speak; Mentos knew what decision he would make.

After all, the two had been together for quite some time.

However, on the surface, even though Lann had made a decision in his heart, he remained expressionless.

”Now the interior of the Profound Church is completely under our control.”

Lann put his hands on his hips and shook his head toward the church hall behind him.

”There shouldn’t be anything that can threaten Rosalie, at least not within the vicinity of the Profound Church.”

”But in this decaying world, discussing security in isolated areas is meaningless.”

Klimte approached as he spoke, entering the conversation.

”Because the First Flame is about to go out, every place is under increasing pressure, just like outside the church now, where the road is almost full of undead spirits.”

The White Sect Archbishop’s white crown had long gone missing due to intense battles.

The exquisitely ritualistic forked spear in his hand seemed weak and useless against the oncoming Elderidge.

So he frantically went up to stab with the spear, getting the sticky black mud on it.

He couldn’t shake it off, and the mud appeared to move on its own, as if it was conscious.

Having no choice, Klimte discarded the exquisite forked spear and instead picked up a random lance from the previous convoy supplies.

Leonard took a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to Klimte, who used it to wipe the blood-stained, graying beard on his chin.

Then he rummaged through his wide sleeves and took out a stone that shimmered with golden light, handing it to Lann.

That stone looked like a raw yellow gemstone mined with the rock wall attached.

The crystal and rock were fused together, indistinguishable. The golden light came from the crystal.

Lann took the stone, feeling that the golden light was similar to the light emitted by a ’miracle’.

”This is a ’Blessed Gemstone’, a product of metamorphosed wedge-shaped stone, often used by clergy as excellent protective talismans. Some heretics, having only recently changed their beliefs, still carry it. It’s considered one of the few spoils from them that normal people can use, take it.”

”By finding a skilled blacksmith with this gemstone, your weapon can undergo a fundamental transformation to become a blessed weapon. It continuously releases a miniature ’miracle’ for the wielder.”

’Wedge-shaped stone’ is a unique material in this world. It is rumored that the larger the piece of wedge-shaped stone, the rarer and more powerful it is.

A complete ’Wedge-shaped Stone Disk’ is even said to be the weapon material for the Fire Gods of the Mythical Era.

The Profound Church’s library was rich, and Lann had accumulated some basic knowledge of this world.

And Klimte’s additional explanations clearly pointed out its use to Lann.

This type of blessed ’miracle’, although small in scale, should be sufficient to provide a continuous trickle of Life Force.

And because of this blessing, it’s expected that the weapon’s wielder’s power would be somewhat elevated compared to usual.

It’s quite a valuable gemstone.

Lann, without fussing, directly stuffed it into his backpack.

Skipping the topic of the spoils, Lann continued to ask Klimte.

”What did you mean by what you just said?”

The situation outside is dire, this much Lann knew.

As the First Flame weakens, the number of Undead is increasing exponentially. The harsh environment is also causing continuous deaths.

The more times an Undead dies, the more humanity is lost from their soul, turning them into wandering souls that crazily attack living beings.

Now, as the flames gradually extinguish, even the world itself is in a state of collapse, making any talk of regional peace meaningless.

But Klimte’s earlier statement... why does it sound like there’s a plan to take the initiative?

”We should make a move; this is an opportunity!”

Sure enough, Klimte’s words confirmed Lann’s speculation.

However, the Demon Hunter was unclear about what exactly he meant by ’make a move’.

Leonard also seemed to have been reminded to think in this direction. He lifted the silver mask under his hat brim, staring intently at the serious archbishop.

”You’re saying... to bring Her Highness Geside out?”

Mentos sharply caught the familiar point in this sentence, ’Geside’.

The biotic intelligence brain instantly completed the memory capture and projected the information onto the main retina.

[Daughter of the Angel · Geside], rumored to have documented the story told by the Angel, compiling it into [Miracle].

This person should be in Losric City right now.

Klimte did not respond to Leonard’s question, merely exchanging glances.

The certainty in those eyes signified that the two had reached a consensus.

”So you two are discussing this in front of me...” Lann interjected, ”I suppose there’s something you two ought to tell me?”

The archbishop and the Goddess Knight looked at Lann, then nodded to each other.

Klimte looked up at Lann: ”Speaking vaguely in front of someone unaware is indeed discourteous. But please forgive us, as we had not yet established a sufficiently strong relationship of trust before.”

”But now, Lann. I am very sure you bear no ill will towards the Goddess, and you yourself are a most orthodox and noble knight. I am willing to trust you wholeheartedly, so many things can now be spoken openly.”

Lann extended a hand from his arms akimbo position, slightly bowing: ”I am honored to receive such recognition.”

Lann’s relaxed attitude seemingly couldn’t affect Klimte.

He solemnly pulled Lann closer to himself and Leonard, forming a small circle at the corner of the terrace for a whispered conversation.

”Rosalie is not the Goddess’s real name, but a pseudonym used to conceal her identity out of necessity.”

The first sentence did not surprise Lann, but the second sentence, Klimte stared at Lann closely, as if afraid he would react conspicuously in shock.

”The true identity of the Goddess is actually the Queen of Losric!”

After speaking, Klimte deliberately paused, as if waiting for Lann’s reaction.

But unfortunately, although over time Lann had heard more or less many stories about this powerful kingdom in the Fire Apocalypse.

Yet, being a foreigner, Lann did not have a real sense of Losric’s strength and status.

So he just blinked and looked at Klimte.

The archbishop thought it was indeed a knight recognized by the Goddess, completely unshaken! Seems like he could delve a bit deeper into the story.

”The Angel Faith led by the Queen was prosperous in Losric. The Winged Knights even had the privilege to emblazon the Losric double dragon insignia on the ribbons on their chests!”

”But later... Prince Lorrian and Prince Losric opposed the Angel Faith and even cut out their mother’s tongue.”

”This is why the Goddess is so despondent, not because she was hurt by her followers, but because she was harmed by her own sons.”

”And this time the Goddess left Losric City because the Fire Transmission Ceremony is nearing, and the princes’ status is rising due to the ceremony’s requirements.”

”To appease Prince Losric, the Goddess was expelled from Losric. The originally prosperous Angel Faith was also driven out of Losric.”

Hearing that her tongue was cut out by her sons... Lann felt a bit numbed at this point.

Yet Mentos continued to work diligently in his mind, recording every sentence, sorting the logic, and storing the records.

The so-called ’cutting out the tongue’ is not merely physical harm.

Judging from the [Miracle] effects exhibited by Rosalie, regenerating a severed limb for her followers was child’s play.

Under that major miracle just now, people within the entire covered range probably couldn’t die even if they wanted to during the miracle’s effect period.

How could she possibly not handle a tongue?

Unless it wasn’t just a ’tongue’... but a part of her soul!

This is a world where the connection between a creature’s body and soul is incredibly tight, with the development of soul knowledge and technology flourishing.

Perhaps only by having a part of her soul cut away, could Rosalie be left helpless regarding her tongue.

And the alteration of the soul also simultaneously affects the body.
