Chapter 855: Chapter 838: Vascular Air Embolism

Although Phoebe was excited about her first combat experience and having achieved something, she was, after all, a good child, and the act of killing still unsettled her a bit.

Especially the fact that it led to an unexplained death, which even frightened her a little.

Lann inspected Phoebe’s sleeve sword, which indeed had only a small amount of blood. Judging by the color, it was venous blood and hadn’t pierced any vital areas. Also, there was no residual toxin on the blade.

To alleviate Phoebe’s psychological burden, Lann decided to analyze the situation.

”What was the person’s condition when they died?”

”I, I just remember that his face was pale and he kept gasping for air, desperately gasping, and after falling to the ground, the sound of his breathing was still piercing, like he was trying to cough out his lungs.”

Lann scratched his chin, pondering, ”You said you used the Immortal Peak Temple martial arts? Was the wind noise from it loud?”

”Uh... quite loud?”

Phoebe thought Lann was asking about her practice progress, so she answered a bit nervously.

”Then it was a pulmonary embolism causing pulmonary edema and heart failure.”

The Demon Hunter concluded confidently after analyzing.

”What do you mean?”

The Hawk Trainer and the little girl she raised were known among their friends for their equally astounding cultural knowledge.

However, even Hippocrates present couldn’t understand what Lann’s diagnosis was.

The basic feature of the Immortal Peak Temple martial arts is the Air Hammer, which manipulates the air pressure around fists and feet to form a ring of high-density air. It can even distort the angle of swords’ slashes in frontal collisions using the air layer on the fists.

After Phoebe made a cut on the Divine Guard’s vein with her sleeve sword, the subsequent large influx of air carried by the Air Hammer entered the vein, causing an acute vascular embolism.

Pulmonary edema and heart failure are the primary causes of death induced by vascular embolism.

Lann looked at Phoebe and her sleeve sword with interest... this new trait formed from the combination of technique and equipment was something he had rarely seen.

As long as a cut is made, it’s like an artificial vascular embolism... quite creative.

”You should also be careful!”

Cassandra advised Phoebe with concern from the side.

”What if they hadn’t cornered you into a building with marble columns this time? On flat ground, killing you would be as easy as catching sheep in a pen!”

Cassandra really cared about Phoebe.

Lann realized the fear in the Hawk Trainer’s eyes just now was not only about worrying that her brother might have killed Pericles but also that they almost lost Phoebe to the Divine Guard.

If both of these events had really happened, Lann believed Cassandra would likely have given up on bringing Aleksey back to the family, maybe even killed him.

However, as Lann noted, there is no ”if.”

The Parthenon Temple was damaged to the brink of ruin, but both Pericles and Phoebe were unharmed.

”We must leave Athens immediately! Tonight!”

Aspasia suddenly spoke loudly beside Pericles.

Her emotions were intense, leaving no room for negotiation.

This drew the attention of the three people and one cat.

”Athenians! Athens! There’s no place for you here anymore, we must leave tonight!”

But Pericles weakly waved his hand.

”It’s the Divine Teachings order that wants me dead, counting on me leaving Athens to spread their reach during the power vacuum and take control of this great city. I cannot...”

However, unlike the women Pericles despised of the current era.

Aspasia had received high-quality education and was a well-organized socialite with a clear, logical mind.

Pericles could not twist Aspasia’s thinking through rebuttal.

”But undoubtedly: In usual circumstances, you could rely on the orderly power of Athens to protect yourself and advance your policies. The Divine Teachings order wouldn’t dare act openly.”

”But now order has collapsed! You almost died here just now, and which Athenian would care about your problems at this moment?”

Aspasia implored Pericles almost beggingly.

She was undoubtedly a unique Aegean beauty like Cassandra, and few men could refuse when such a face made an earnest plea.

Not to mention, Pericles was now worn down by both the plague and age, and had just survived an assassination attempt.

”Sure, letting you stay in Athens as the assassinated governor, or even die in Athens, would arguably benefit our city-state’s future more...”

Socrates, nearby, as usual, said something difficult to accept and infuriating but logically sound.

”But we should ultimately strive for moral constraint on individuals. Ignoring morality and pursuing the maximization of profit alone will get us nowhere, let alone making plans for the future.”

”So, let’s go now, my friend.”

Finally, the chubby, hairy philosopher teased Pericles.

”Take your democratic system that I’ve long disliked out of Athens. Live well, Pericles.”

Hippocrates assured from the side: ”I will do my utmost to control the plague’s spread in Athens, until either I conquer it or am conquered by it. You can rest assured.”

”If you ask me...” Cassandra approached, as decisive as ever. ”I see Alcibiades has been doing well recently, and he would be a good heir to your political legacy. You should consider yourself and Aspasia.”

”Board my ship, and we can set sail tonight.”

With so many friends sincerely advising and caring for him, Pericles could not persist.

He seemed a bit burdened, yet somewhat relieved, as he nodded. With friends supporting him, he returned to his residence, preparing to gather his belongings and board the ship with Cassandra, leaving the Attica Region where Athens is located.

When the group departed from the Parthenon Temple and headed down the cliff, Cassandra, seizing the stair height difference, pressed Lann’s left shoulder.

The Demon Hunter instinctively twitched his shoulder, then regained stability.

”You’re injured.”

The Hawk Trainer stated confidently.

The Demon Hunter opened his mouth but finally nodded slightly.

”Your brother can, like Hapalos, shoot beams. Although I deflected them as much as possible, heh, he’s indeed your brother. Quite strong, indeed.”

The bear fur on Lann’s shoulder was so fluffy and of good quality that it wasn’t particularly noticeable.

But in reality, because when using the Quen Rune to deflect the beam, there was a slight shake, causing the beam to skim past Lann’s shoulder.

It left an inconspicuous scorch mark on the bear fur, but the flesh beneath the armor... Lann felt like at least a piece of meat had been roasted.

”Your brother has already exhausted all the potential of the Sword of Damocles, and so his bloodline shows greater strength than yours.”

Even though he was the one injured, Lann still acted as if nothing had happened, first showing concern and advising Cassandra.

”If you two happen to face off in the future, and a confrontation is unavoidable, I suggest fully developing your Leonidas’ Spear first, or else don’t engage directly.”
