Chapter 863: Chapter 846: Pay Attention to Someone

When Lann blew a breath next to one’s ear, almost no one in the world could resist such a move.

At least Margaret had no immunity to it at all.

So she could only obediently follow orders like a marionette under Lann’s command.

It must be said that Margaret’s private tutoring in alchemy indeed provided great help when participating in Lann’s experiments.

Advanced alchemy is almost like a magical ritual conducted in a large cauldron.

Experienced and professional alchemists use items like ’tears filled with love’ and ’blood filled with fear before death’ that possess imagery features in magical theory.

And the alchemist can accurately and strategically apply these images within the ritual.

In this world, magical rituals, curses... do not require the initiator to have highly advanced magical prowess.

After all, a farmer on a hillside or at the edge of a swamp whispering could resonate with the chaos magic power scattered in the world due to intense emotional fluctuations, thus becoming a real and effective curse.

But Lann wasn’t some resource-strapped solitary alchemist. Why go outside seeking ways to resonate with chaos magic when one could find a powerful female warlock to charge one’s alchemy?

Margaret’s progress in alchemical knowledge was well reflected in this alchemical experiment.

She could understand some of Lann’s setups and their meanings in alchemy and coordinated her magic power to cooperate.

For instance, she walked around the container in a regular pattern while inputting magic power, to align with the current seasonal and lunar phases.

The walking itself was a part of the ritual.

But even so, the first experiment still ended in failure.

Instead of the anticipated cluster of metal like plant roots levitated by Margaret’s levitation spell,

it turned into a metal block wrapped in white bone spurs.

However, both Lann’s and Margaret’s expressions remained calm.

Because after all, this was an experiment, and anyone who’s ever conducted experiments knows: countless disappointments are the norm in experiments.

Although Margaret didn’t do much alchemy experimentation, she did plenty of spell experiments.

Lann’s expression could even be described as optimistic.

”You were a great help, Rita.”

The Demon Hunter took the object from the levitation spell, scrutinizing it from left to right while speaking.

”With your current level, the experiment progress can be greatly accelerated.”

Saying this, Lann set the failure aside, intending to place it in his trophy cabinet in his cave room later as a keepsake.

Mentos, based on the previous experimental steps and his computing power, finely adjusted the experiment process.

Meanwhile, Lann also replenished materials into the alchemical container, preparing supplements for the steel ingot and bone powder that had not reacted.

These remaining materials were enough for at least five or six more experiments.

Though Lann believed that even after five or six times, he probably wouldn’t achieve his vision, it still accumulated data for subsequent experiments.

It was the ’failure’ that must be experienced.

After all, no one can build the second floor without building the first one.

-----------------

As expected by Lann, in the following days, he and Margaret conducted several more experiments, all ending in failure.

The frequency of experiments was mainly tied to Margaret’s recovery speed.

After all, chaos magic power is ultimately a dangerous, unnatural energy that wizards must handle with a subtle balance of ’releasing and restraining’ control.

Even a Great Mage, when staying in a casting state for too long, might encounter unimaginable accidents.

Like the incident with Triss last time on Mushroom Mountain... now called Fourteen People Mountain, which resulted in magic power loss leading to self-immolation.

Lann once handed his Fifth Period Team Shield Emblem to Margaret. It contained a specialty from the New Continent, [Early Recovery Amulet].

It accelerates the wearer’s injury and stamina recovery speed.

Lann could adapt in two and a half days and regain consciousness after new organs occupied space and compressed him, thanks significantly to this amulet.

Unfortunately, [Early Recovery Amulet] seemed ineffective for Margaret’s condition due to prolonged control of magic power, which was more of a mental exhaustion.

And a few days later, Lann received a message from the Lady of the Lake, indicating the new chaos magic power tide was approaching.

He would start a new journey.

This specialized version of the [Tendon Coil] would have to wait until his return before continuing the research.

”Also, you need to pay attention to someone.”

On the morning of his departure day, Margaret whispered while lying on Lann’s chest.

The female warlock’s golden hair spread across the pillow, merging into a blend of gold and silver with Lann’s hair.

In the magically temperature-controlled bedroom, there was only a thin velvet blanket on the bed, which nevertheless modestly covered the warlock’s alluring body.

Inevitably, the draping velvet also accentuated the fiery curves of the Dean Airetusa’s body—a huge shock.

”I’m listening.”

Lann drowsily buried his head next to Margaret’s neck.

Yet, this time Margaret did not succumb to her fancies, and she seemed quite serious.

”Viggo Fortez, does the name ring a bell?”

Looking at his lover’s posture, Lann slightly frowned and lifted his head.

”Is he the one... the leader who organized the wizards to partake in the Sodden Mountain battle?”

Lann’s memory, thanks to Mentos, was almost infallible under normal circumstances.

He spoke in question form mainly to avoid misunderstandings due to name duplication.

After all, in Western contexts, having the same name is very common.

Thus, people often use nicknames in close relationships, such as Tishaya and Lann calling Margaret ’Rita.’

But even so, ’Rita’ coincided with another warlock, Coral Rita Nid.

The prevalence of name duplications is evident.

But Margaret’s serious expression indicated to Lann that she was referring to that very person.

”What about him?” Lann turned over, speaking in a more formal tone. ”I was completely immersed on the battlefield then, only hearing about such a figure but never met him. Why should I be concerned about him?”

”Because he was one of the few who immediately recognized your performance and contributions in the war the moment it ended and didn’t hesitate to connect with you.”

”This only shows he has strong execution abilities.”

”But it also shows he has a strong ambition!”

Margaret retorted discontentedly.

”Do you think rallying a bunch of pampered, or deeply research-focused wizards to go fight on the battlefield is something that can be done with just ’strong execution’?”

”I know our group too well, Viggo Fortez must have expended a significant amount of thought and effort, using countless plans to make so many people owe him favors and trust him, aligning them cohesively at that time.”
