Chapter 878: Chapter 861: Werewolf Possession

The humanoid monster before him was thrown by Lann, the mighty impact causing its back to plow across the damp ground, creating a furrow.

As it scrambled to stand, it clawed at the ground in desperation, flinging clumps of wet soil everywhere.

”Roar!”

Its gaping mouth, capable of swallowing a human skull, roared—though strangely, it seemed to mimic the howl of a wolf using human vocal structures.

The people in this caravan were organized by Archbishop Klimte, and their skills were commendable.

Even the non-fighting believers at least possessed the awareness not to hinder combatants.

Thus, when Lann threw the creature into the campfire’s glow, the hooded believers and Maggot Men nearby immediately scattered.

The warriors patrolling the area quickly drew their weapons, warily eyeing the monster.

Unlike typical foes who engage in a prolonged confrontation to observe an enemy’s posture and weaknesses,

this monster was literally a mad dog!

No observation, no hesitation—it seemed driven solely by relentless attack and destruction.

”Awoo!”

Its naturally drooping arms, reaching its ankles, were wildly flailing.

In its brief encounter with Lann, the brute force subdued by skill was now fully unleashed.

”Kaboom!”

The scrawny, blood-streaked arms smashed into a warrior’s shield, emitting a sound akin to a war hammer strike!

The shield-bearing warrior clearly hadn’t anticipated the opponent’s immense strength, attack range, and abrupt speed.

Holding a kite shield, he was directly hammer-flung while maintaining his shield stance!

Eyes wide beneath his helmet, his hands were crushed between the shield and his torso, visibly twisted and deformed.

In a move identical to the creature Lann had thrown, the warrior rolled over the wet ground, carrying clumps and mud, crashing into those around him, and ending up by the archbishop and Goddess’s carriage.

Archbishop Klimte furrowed his brow, lips tightened beneath his grizzled beard, clearly displeased.

It was utter chaos.

The enemy’s attacks were frenzied and swift; after flinging the warrior, several others were promptly knocked away.

In various directions around the camp.

Some weren’t flung, merely stumbling and crawling, battered far away.

Yet it had essentially disrupted the camp’s layout.

Despite his displeasure, Klimte extended his hands from beneath his wide bishop’s robes, holding a peculiar-shaped bell resembling a religious artifact.

As he shook the bell, he muttered incantations.

A wave of warm golden light appeared at his feet, forming a circle of golden magical patterns.

With the bell’s final soft ring, the golden pattern gently expanded, sweeping over those nearby like waves.

All wounded near Archbishop Klimte seemed unaffected after the golden light.

Twisted arms were restored, bleeding wounds leaving only faint traces...

This was the unique spell of the clergy, [Miracle: Intermediate Healing].

It granted the surrounding people the divine beings’ grace, healing their wounds.

Not a high-level spell, merely a ’cost-effective’ solution Klimte opted for after assessing allies’ injuries.

Soon in the chaotic camp, more instances of warm golden light flickered around.

Signs of the clergy among the crowd treating wounded who came to them.

By then, the monster stood again, after just a frenzy of clawing.

Having discerned the monster in the darkness, Lann now drew his sword as he approached.

He naturally noticed the warm golden light amid the dim firelight, the clergy releasing [Miracle].

The supernatural forces of the Otherworld were indeed worth exploring with curiosity.

But for now, his primary target was the monster.

The monster’s chaotic flailing conveniently swept a no-man’s-land around with its long arms.

Lann, skillful and fearless, boldly charged into this no-man’s-land, entering the monster’s attack range.

Its arms resembled two segmented whips, wailing with whip force and iron hardness.

A wide attack range, fast, furious flailing.

Yet to the Demon Hunter’s keen eye, such attacks weren’t without openings.

Inside the monster’s attack range, Lann gently lifted his blade to the side.

”Dang!”

A fierce burst of sparks exploded at the point of contact between limb and blade!

The collision-induced air spread, scattering the sparks into a circular shape.

”Ow!?”

Though it continued to roar frantically, its movements inevitably stiffened.

Since it never showed any sign of intelligence, Lann didn’t consider it humanoid with judgment capabilities.

Just as Lann had anticipated, despite feeling an inexplicable stiffness in the body, the irrational monster continued to wildly swing and thrash its two arms.

And each strike was intercepted by Lann using the technique ”Climbing the Carp”.

A series of compact sparks exploded.

The warriors here seemed as if most of them had never witnessed such an intense battle rhythm, attacking offense with offense.

Thus, many were directly struck dumb.

The monster’s movements became increasingly stiff and sluggish under the ”Climbing the Carp” technique.

Finally, when Lann estimated it was about the right time, there was another clash between blade and claw.

With a ”clang”.

The monster’s claw strike, which could instantly send several fully armored knights flying and forcibly push a circle of people to the ground,

was unexpectedly raised high after being blocked this time.

And at this moment, Lann’s feet once again displayed the technical characteristics of using ”Fairy Peak Kick”, the air hammer.

He delivered a low, sweeping side kick to the side of the monster’s knee, with a brief, crisp ’bang’, causing the monster’s half-body to buckle down.

It was a good position for execution.

The golden glow on Aron Dite had reached its peak, and in this state, the force of the next slash would be doubled!

While Lann held the knife handle and thrust downward with a ’puch’, piercing the monster’s chest.

The golden light exploded, and the width of the wound in the chest was more than double the width of the blade of the Lady of the Lake’s Sword.

And Lann’s expression remained tense.

”Rong Buqiu.”

He called out without looking back.

At the same time, the figure of a small cat sprinted across the ground from a short distance away, stepping on Lann’s knee bend and shoulder, leaping straight to the side of the monster’s head.

”I’m here, meow!”

The Thunder Cat Sword unsheathed, as Rong Buqiu swept over the monster’s head in mid-air, setting it horizontally before the monster’s neck.

With a ’sciii’, the Thunder Cat Sword ripped a deep and wide gash in the neck, splattering thick, nearly black blood.

In this strange world facing strange enemies, Lann felt just stabbing the heart was not safe enough. Better make sure the head is chopped off.

”Meow?”

The little cat meowed in confusion.

Seemingly due to the enemy’s excessively thick blood, the sword intended to decapitate instead only slit open the neck.

Yet, just as Rong Buqiu turned to leap up again for a cut at the back neck, the little cat found it was no longer necessary.

For when it landed, a crescent curved blade had already hooked the monster’s back neck with its inner arc.

Then, with a fierce tug... ”crack”, the head fell to the ground.

It was Leonard’s peculiar blade, the Crescent Curved Sword.

Only at this moment did the terrifying red light in the monster’s eyes finally fade and dim.

The continuously opening and closing mouth, as if craving to bite something, also gradually stilled.

When Lann withdrew the Lady of the Lake’s Sword from the monster’s chest, the thick blood made a ’sizzle’ sound.

Feigning to brush off himself, the monster’s blood had actually been kept outside by the Quen Rune, long drained through the body-fitting protective shield.

”What is this thing?”

Lann flicked the blade, letting the thick, nearly black blood flow down off the sword. Rong Buqiu came to Lann’s side, mimicking his action, protecting its Thunder Cat Sword.

Leonard, who had lent a helping hand, casually flipped the severed head over with his toe to inspect.

”This looks like... ’Wolf Possession’?! But how could it appear here, with eyes showing such unfamiliar light...”

From Leonard’s mutterings, Lann gathered much information.

For instance, even Leonard, a Goddess Knight, didn’t quite recognize this eye-red light appearance.

”’Wolf Possession’? What does that mean?”

Did the wolf’s spirit transform into an evil spirit and possess a body?

Leonard shook his head.

”The Falan Undead Team is an undead army that shares wolf blood and reciprocally ties a covenant. And sharing wolf blood is a dangerous act, although the exact nature of danger remains ’a little secret’ the Falan Undead Team is reluctant to disclose.”

”But the dangerous consequence is to turn one into this state, ’Wolf Possession’.”

”However, the problem is... these failed sharers of wolf blood are supposed to be confined within the abandoned Fort Fran. How could they appear in the Punishment Forest?”

The convoy organized by Archbishop Klimte seemed well adapted to the outdoor dangers, especially with assistance from the clergy, no lives were lost this time either.

Thus, everyone quietly returned to the bonfire, calmly organizing their disrupted camp.

Archbishop Klimte was also walking towards this side.

The atmosphere became temporarily silent and somewhat ominous.

For even Leonard himself knew what it typically means when dangerous entities confined to a place escape—that the place of confinement has an issue.

Yet the abandoned fortress of the Falan Undead Team... due to the natural reverence for the identity of ’Ashen One’.

News of an incident at the original station of the ’Ashen One’ is somewhat hard to accept.
